Exactly what I did. It does not skip, ever. Which is saying something, because my original PSX in the late 90s absolutely did. Seems like they really smoothed out the defects in later PSone laser assemblies. Having said that... this week has been all about the mister core. It's great to have something this accurate that can load games off the network.

Great guide! It might have been good to go into save states and how the memory card works too? I didn’t realize you had to load the memory card from the OSD, then after you save in game you need to go back to the OSD or your save will be erased. I lost a few hours progress on SOTN figuring that out!
Yippiy!!!! Now some FPGA goodness of PS1 demo discs. Still holding out for Saturn. I waited a long time for NeoGeo perfection, got it. I waited a long time for CPS1/2. I will wait a long time for Saturn/CPS3/PGM.
Thanks to the mister core I went back and explored some PS1 demo discs too. What a blast from the past. Unlike the rest of the PS1 library, I haven't laid eyes on these since the 90s. The FMV, menus and fonts are a real time capsule. And it's fun to put a timestamp on when I first tried some of these now-legendary games.
@3:50 the analog stick doesn’t work for me. I’m using the dualshock 3 (054c:0268) Was it because I incorrectly mapped my controller from the MiSTer core (menu)??
Thanks for this explanation! Could you also do a video on the setup of SNES MSU-1 on Mister? I believe it requires unstable mister build plus unstable snes core so maybe it's too early? I hear a lot of chatter about it but haven't found a Mister guide anywhere yet. I figured out how to obtain and patch snes sfc ROM and put alongside the audio files, a lengthy process in and of itself!
I generally don’t do tutorials on unstable MiSTer builds as it’s dicey enough to where I know viewers will “break” their installs on occasion. I’ve tried in the past and it’s presented issues. I try to just stick to what I know 99/100 people will be successful
Couple days ago I was playing Japanese version of "Macross: Do you remember love " I've been saving my game progress and overrode in-game. I got to level 6 then it asked to switch to disc 2, it didn't work. So I rebooted the PSX core got back into the game. I was so disappointed when it showed level 2 saved game. The save states and swapping disc still needs work .
Totally agree about the lousy quality of the PSX CD players. I bought a japanese launch model which was known for shitty laser. I recently swapped it for a PS One laser. It works much better.
When loading a rom my mister seems to default to the European bios. The PS intro will have Sony entertainment Europe instead of US. I know you can force a different region in the mister menu but can I change it to start up as US region?

Yes the cache is a great improvement. I’ll start work on that comparison in the next few weeks. The next two weeks in my professional work life outside YT are SLAMMED
When configuring a controller that uses both a d-pad and an analog stick, which one do you use when you are asked to input the directional inputs? I tried it first by using the sticks but for some reason they were overly sensitive that way but they would work across all games. I also tried using the d-pad and now half of my games don't recognize any directional inputs anymore, but those that do feel correct now.
Its very good to know that the stable core of ps1 is out now. I've been playing Silent Hill lately but on my SuperConsoleX, i know it has bad reputation but it works very well. I would love to play it and many other ps1 games on MISTer, specially with that 16:9 hack, i find it genious. Do you think that MISTer will be sold cheaper on the future?

Is there anything special needed to be done with memory card support? I saved a file in Driver and when using the load option in the game nothing showed up (need to redo the driving test 😵💫 )
It’s really great but I still wish it had the 5x integer scaling for 2D games! I tried asking on discord & Patreon, but there wasn’t much response… I haven’t looked into core dev, but I’m wondering if the HDMI output is a separate module or totally integrated into the core. If the former it might be something that a non FPGA expert could do lol
I would love to see floating point precision added to this core but I'm not sure the MiSTer is powerful enough to handle it. That's the only feature that could really make me want to play on this instead of OG hardware. Looks amazing nonetheless.

This is what I'd like to clarify, basically. Just to be sure.

Hmm ok it seems that it hasn't loaded the BIOS, as games doesn't start :D The Mister did its Linux update, but there is sadly no update all function and pressing up also doesn't brings up the Menue. i have to test around or load another preset core ^^
Hmm do you know if there is a way to download the script manually or to implement the bios manually? Seems like just the Script itself is missing, as i can roam the folders and see some others, but not this one.
Google “mister update_all” and you’ll find the script on GitHub. Just download it and put it in your scripts folder on the SD card. I’d link it but links in comments get eaten by the filter

D pad first, analog second. Bind the controller in the main OS menu first then core secondarily

Which vPSX bios version is recommended to use for the PSX core?
I see four different ones ranging from scph-1001 to scph-7002.
Just use update_all and configure downloader to pull bios files. It’ll grab the recommended bios files

You don’t need directory’s for chds just put them all in the psd folder bin que is different cause they reuse file names
