Even the Greek community knew and danced to this mans music. Matter of fact, I had just started working at NYU when he passed away. Trust me, when he passed, it was one sad, sad day......

When I was little, my parents used to play latin tropical music ALL THE TIME. I’ve hated it all my life but now i’ve found to be amazing. One of the things that has always been interesting to me was how many important salsa musicians spoke literal perfect english, my whole life I thought people like Willie Colon, Tito Puente, were straight from Puerto Rico or Cuba, only to realize most of them were American and Latino by ethnicity and spoke literal perfect English

Been listening to old Tito Puente recordings with La Lupe....incredible music, intensity was off the charts, the band was precise as hell and put down a heavy dance impulse. I have a new respect for Tito as both player and bandleader.
