    My older son (who’s almost 30 now) had a gaming channel in high school and he would show me the mean comments sometimes. I couldn’t believe how horrible people could be. I asked him how he could stand to read them and he’d just explain that they were haters or trolls and it didn’t bother him. That’s the reason I’ve never had even the slightest desire to be on social media. I guess my skin is too thin 😟. Great video!

    I fully understand the blocking of cumulative comments. I've started doing that on my FB with even longtime "friends" because like you said, it's my space to express myself. If you don't like what I think about something just scroll on by but I'm old enough now to realize I don't need toxic comments or things that bring me down. And I especially don't like sarcasm or people claiming they're being funny when it's really just mean under the cover of humor.

    • @jbbb7418
      @jbbb7418 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Please Don’t forget how easy it is to misinterpret the written word. Some people just can not express themselves well, or communicate well in writing. There have been many times, I have looked back at my own comments or texts that I thought were saying one thing, then looked back or received a weird response and thought, well, I wrote that poorly didn’t I? I think part of that is the rush rush of life. It is disheartening on both ends.

    • @tammystiletto
      @tammystiletto หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get it! One time I got into a really bad car accident and I was SO sad. I posted on my FB about it and this guy shows up out of no where to talk down to me about the situation and how it’s most likely my fault on and on. But that wasn’t the only time, he’d left one or two hurtful things before. So I blocked him. He was really upset and tried to contact me about it! Sometimes I miss MySpace 😅

    • @Diana-qp2rw
      @Diana-qp2rw หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jbbb7418Yes! I also believe that if you post your opinion and someone comments their own differing opinion, that’s not a reason to block if they are trying to have a civil discussion or just want to show you a different perspective. After all, you yourself wanted to share your opinion, why shouldn’t other people share theirs, too? Having conversations and exchanging different views, instead of always scrolling by unless you want to express agreement, can be a huge win for all of us and we might be wiser at the end if the day.
      That being said, if someone only wants to pick a fight all the time, I block people like that, too. But I think we should always ask how they meant what they wrote if it’s not obvious that they just wanted to fight. Like you said, written words can often be misunderstand.
      For example, I once wrote “I see where you’re coming from” meaning “I can understand why you have this point of view” (though I disagreed), and the other person thought I meant where they geographically came from and was mad and thought I was racist. Luckily, I had the chance to explain what I really meant and we could continue our conversation.

  • @Diana-qp2rw
    @Diana-qp2rw หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Very interesting.
    Personally, while I can understand blocking people who make you feel bad, no matter what their intentions are (I’ve done that on Facebook, even with people who were very nice to me, but just extremely pushy, or people who posted stuff that was harmful to me personally.
    However, I do think it’s problematic when very big accounts just block anyone they don’t want there for whatever reason or when they restrict certain words or comments. Sometimes, more critical comments are so helpful to other viewers (e.g. make them think twice if a product is really that good or if they really need it, if something actually works, etc.) or they even raise awareness on an issue the influencer tries to deflect from (like spreading misinformation, exploiting your children for content, scamming the viewers, etc.). That’s why I urge everyone to look for more information when really big influencers always only have very positive comments. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad, but looking for some more information elsewhere might be a good idea.

      Absolutely agree with you. I have been commenting and interacting with creators for the last 10 years and recently had a horrible experience where I respectfully praised a creator’s video and I left a suggestion for what I wanted to see next. However, I was berated heavily for my constructive feedback and told to leave the channel because I was not worthy of their videos.
      I eventually reported the comments as it’s OK for people to disagree, but it’s not OK for the creator to be disrespectful when interacting with the audience who has different opinions.
      I think this type of issue goes both ways, so I’m not sure if the current system offers the best solution for this issue.

    The cumulative negativity block is so true. I like to share my life on social media, and when I had a really rough year due to trauma I really noticed the ppl who are always negative. I could literally end a post with "This is just stupid fun because I'm sad, please don't offer constructive criticism" and some ppl would still go at it and not apologize when I pointed out that instruction. Like yes I get that I can't control others, but if you're gonna be on my social media commenting on my life as someone I know in real life... Have some manners. As you said, this is my house, act like a guest or leave.

  • @LouisaWatt
    @LouisaWatt หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    When it comes to blocking, creators have a right to not be harassed on their social media. You’re not being denied free-speech, because you also can create content and enjoy getting harassed for your opinions.
    Don’t forget, whatever percentage of the population is mentally unstable, there will be that percentage among influencers. Some of it might be strategic, but plenty will be unstable people doing unpredictable, strange things for no logical reason.

  • @nadiadncr
    @nadiadncr หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I'm constantly amazed that people use their energy to negativity instead of positivity support and brigthen one's day. Creators are humans too that have struggles and it cost us nothing to be kind and supportive. If you have nothing nice to say it's better to say nothing at all. Anyways love you Charlotte thanks for bringing those matters to surface. ♥

    Not gonna lie I can understand why your husband loves discussing the cumulative blocks, lol! We all have those people in our lives, work places, even families sometimes! We need some kind of a real life block feature 😂. I always remind myself that super negative people are almost universally unhappy, and it is themselves, not their targets, with whom they have issues. But by all means, block away! Protect your garden! Tend upur zen!!!

    Love your videos! I watch almost all. Found you through Lisa Eldridge reviews years ago. Very interesting what you explain about social media. And yes, I agree, it is your space, so you decide. I am not an influencer, but on my socials I am the same. If a friend writes something negative, I will just delete it, it's my space, and if they want to be negative they can be that in their own space. Love your approach. And the white things in your mouth look so pretty and make you extra beautiful.

    Hi Charlotte, thank you so much for this video, I truly learned so much & my heart is just singing right now! So many in today's culture need to hear this - positivity is contagious 🎉, & negativity is too. How we say things is just as important as what we say, and it actually does influence the energy of our surroundings. Thank you for helping to spread this message via your incredibly lovely, informative, funny, helpful, applicable, useful, positive content, I am so grateful for you. In case no one has told you yet today - you are such a valuable, lovely human, you rock girl!! ❤

    Thanks for posting this, Charlotte. 💕 This is one of the best and most informative videos I've seen on TH-cam. I wish others were as considerate as you are trying to keep scammers and haters (aka "baddies") away from your subscribers.
    I have been with you since you first started on TH-cam and you shared your love of makeup with us. You have always been honest and never pretended to be a professional makeup artist, and you make makeup relatable to us since most of us are not professional makeup artists either.
    Keep doing what you are doing and continue to be your honest self. That's what we're here for. 😊

    You’re such a classy, talented lady, I can’t believe anyone would leave you mean comments! Says much more about them, and they deserve a good blocking. 😊

    Thank you, Charlotte - “be kind” is a great message. I think the anonymity of social media gives people a sense there are no boundaries and/or consequences regarding our voice of words and how we use them. Love you content and you look fabulous ❣️❣️

    Love this! So many young people are “raised” by the internet and don’t realize how important kindness is (some old ones need reminding, too). I remember being told that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. There are many old phrases that are just not used anymore but stuck back in the day! ❤

    Really interesting! I love the analogy of being in the creators’’home’! If people don’t like the content they don’t have to watch at all, don’t need to be unpleasant. Well said! ❤

      Actually, that metaphor isn’t exactly accurate. It’s more like people being in their business place. This is a business most influencers have created to make money, and it’s a product that they produce. (besides a few that do it as a hobby for fun, which are rare)

    I just want to say thank you for always listing your nail polish and clothing in the description box so I never have to ask ☺I've heard all these secrets except the tricking us into engagement by withholding. Also saw another creator say that influencers make a higher commission off of products sold within the first week of launch. She said that's why a lot of their "first impressions" are always positive but they say they will have to update us later in their monthly favorites and that's when we get their real thoughts. Is that true?
    I do try to comment on every video watched as an added way to thank someone for their content, even though some say they only read the comments within the first hour and I know it may not be seen. Glad to know that's not true for you. ♥

    Thank you for your perspective on negative comments and how someone can think they are not coming across as negative but they do anyway. I never thought about how posting an unpopular opinion can come across negative instead of helpful for people in the comments so they know why some people don't like a product. We should always phrase our constructive criticism of a product in a way that it's understood that just because it didn't work for me it may work for someone else and why that would be. I believe that I do try to phrase things in as much of a positive way but going forward I'll double check and triple check that it cannot be misunderstood. I love your videos and enjoy every bit of your content.
