Onimusha 2 was my first and favorite game for the PS2. I also didn't have a memory card until June of the next year. Before I had a memory card, I had clawed my way to the end of the game. Mind you, I was 15 and so goddam anxious about fighting Nobunaga and losing to start the game over I didn't try, and I didn't know about the Golden Evil Statue. I beat Critical Mode when I was 27 (No black necklace 🎉😢 I wanted it), with great personal aplomb because now I can issue every enemy. I did a victory run after the Critical mode on Ultimate Easy and slaughtered. 😂😂😂

SO, after your review I gave this one a shot. Series S runs PS2 like a dream and with load/save states shortcuts to boot! I am such a fan of Demon Siege and Dawn of Dreams. But the tank controls kept me away from the earlier entries all along. I have set aside about an hour of thoughtful reading to understanding the trade system and its more than 400 possible reactions etc. Got to a buncha sites, found pdf, grades etc ok and I got to enjoy it for... some amount of hours. And then, the game insulted my UNintelligence. When I got to a written guide for the FOURTH TIME I stopped playing. I don't know if I'm coming back to it. I just got the Wind weapon that for some reason is not Shippuu (by the way gorgeous animation when you get it) but... you know, I already had to find the disgusting pig-looking creature holding an umbrella and it made no sense for me... and then, I got yet again lost because I was supposed to enter Jubei's house and solve a 4 gods puzzle that I didn't understand too. Aside from not getting why it was acceptable to make unintuitive progression in an action game, I gotta say, really liked the issen. Feels even better in Oni3 for me, but might be bias. Also, that 10hit Samanosuke combos keep me coming back to watching just that thing. Something beautiful that is. Uhm, a question. Is it possible to CHAIN crit with the Ice weapon, the spear? I didn't manage to do it. I lost some trades, like white necklace and orange necklace but felt no incentive to restarting and doing it right. I don't think I'd feel compelled to finishing Oni2 more than once. I don't even know if to the point I got to, I could already have played with a sub-character already or if it is even worth it. Like, in Oni3 it's not like I'm looking FORWARD to playing with Michelle. But ok...
You can chain crit with every weapon it just takes practice. You can chain multiple issen crits on the same boss as well. The game is pretty short and gets better after you understand it better and start chasing the S rank .. or speedrunning it.
