This was the greatest game I’ve ever witnessed as a Philadelphia fan in general and a Phillies fan. I saw this game with my father when I was 17’ we share the excitement while witnessing Philadelphia win a championship after a long drought, We screamed loud as ever while hugging it out &I’ll forever appreciate that moment. Love you Phillies, forever & always. 🤞🏼
I was 9 years old when the Phillies won. I remember my dad waking my brother and I up to watch the last inning. I didn’t understand how amazing it was at the time, but I remember my dad crying and cheering like a maniac. I thought he was crazy, because in my mind, I was thinking “it’s just baseball”. Flash forward ten years to the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. I get it now. I screamed and cheered and cried right alongside my dad, family, and our friends. I waited 3 hours in line that night to get championship gear at Dick’s. I teared up driving on my way to work the next day while I listened to the radio replay highlights.
Would be possible if we stopped trading people away like idiots. We traded every last good player away. That's why I'm a Kings, Spurs, Ravens, and Orioles fan now. I can't stand Philly teams
EN, no you are a fan of those teams because you are a front runner. Don't act like you are a great loyal fan when you left for any team that is doing good because Philadelphia was struggling a bit.
The older I get, the more emotional I get. I was at this game, with my wife and son. I cried like a baby. I still do, just watching the video! I rarely watch it because of that. Right now I'm just recovering from watching it again. Another one was Harry, when they passed his casket, from one to another. I've been a Phillies fan since 1978. I've lived and died with this team! I like to think I'm well in-tune with them. I haven't had this feeling since 3008. I have the same feeling as I did in 80 and 08. I see me crying again, for all the right reasons! It's a great time to be a Phillies fan! Enjoy this! As few and far between as they come in Philly, you may not get another chance!
megamvtruck Beginning of this season he hit a game winner on opening day...won the world series. He hit one this year for the the dogers...I hope to god that history doesn't repeat itself
Not a Phillies fan, but, I always loved how he called that final out. It's good that he got a chance to call there World Series victory before he passed away. R.I.P Harry Kalas.
On the one hand, I was sad that we lost this series to Philadelphia, but on the other hand, this was for Harry the K. Legendary voice who will always be missed. RIP Harry Kalas.
I remember watching this game when I was 8 with my dad and how excited I was when I saw the final pitch and Brad Lidge drop to his knees, what a phenomenal night it was

A momento like that is to get excited and more so he always has been very very bland. And was naturally seen last night as the Braves became champions against the tricky and stinky team called Astros.
He was like Vin Scully and didn’t talk for 2 minutes afterwards. Vin pioneered it and Joe is just learning from him. Take the Gibson home run for example.
I'm 49 years old. I was 13 years old in 1980 when the Phillies last won a World Series. In 2008, my son was 13. I'm just hoping we don't have to wait until I have a 13 year-old grandson until they win again!
Watching this now on the 10th anniversary of the championship on DVD with harry the k's radio commentary dubbed in. Couldn't end his life & career on a better note.
I am 17 years old and I am a fan of the Phillies. I love the Phillies. I was 3 when this happened, and I do not remember this era of Phillies baseball, but I have watched a lot of these games. I really wish I could have experienced this as a fan. I love this 2008 team. They had a good mix of intensity, determination, and grit… a true demonstration of teamwork. I am typing this comment in 2023, so this 2008 World Series is almost 15 years ago now, and it seems like it should be longer ago. Everything is totally different, and I mean completely different. The camera quality has changed a lot, the way the crowd looks has changed (Wow they are actually looking up instead of at a phone!)…everything. Maybe it is just nostalgia of my fleeting memories as a child, but I yearn for simpler times. Baseball is a sport that can do just that. It will not be the same. Times change (seemingly at an accelerating pace). In regards to the Phillies, there are the great runs that we cherish, and the bad stretches we must endure, Here’s to more memories in the future. ⚾️ ❤️
2:54:16, listen to that pop of the crowd, that's why Philly is one of the best sports towns, the people there are crazy passionate, and I love that they throw hands at the drop of a hat
this was a great moment as a phillies fan. I have the second half of this game on tape. Every morning for about a week i replayed that final out before i went to work with the volume up pretty high. I'll never forget night hearing the crowd roar with that out. The phils pitching shutting down Longoria Pena and Upton was huge they had been on fire that postseason especially, upton.
I cant help it but i grew up in philly and was 12 years old when the 93 phillys were in it and even though they lost they will always be my favorite phillys team
That high ass baseball IQ by Utley to recognize the runner heading for home and having the ability to stop ur throwing motion to first then take one step and fire it to chooch for the out. Remember it like it was yesterday
watching this again makes me realize just how lucky I was to experience this. im a life long Phillies phan and know how hard it is to like this team during seasons like 2015. Utley Howard Burrell Lidge Hamels Ruiz Victorino Werth Moyer & Myers were like superheroes to me. all Phillies phans should cherish this for the rest of their lives, because it may not happen again for a while.
I HAVE BEEN A PHILLIES FAN FOR 56 YEARS. 2008 WAS GREAT BUT I SHALL NEVER FORGET THE 1980 PHILLIES WHEN THEY WON THEIR FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE THEY WERE BORN ON TUESDAY,MAY 1,1883 AT RECREATION PARK.
"the 0-2 pitch... SWING AND A MISS! STRUCK HIM OUT! THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE 2008 WORLD CHAMPIONS OF BASEBALLLLLLLL" is the most perfect call ever
A great moment to see the Phillies to win the world championship since 1980 and since the Sixers won the NBA Finals in 1983.Since then I didn't think we would ever see a world title in this city. Will we see the Phillies win it all again in 2024?
Man, I remember this night like it was yesterday. I was 6 years old when this happened. The Phillies need to return to a World Series winning franchise. I wish this team was still around. Go Phillies 🔴🔴🔴⚪⚪⚪🔵🔵🔵⚾️⚾️⚾️
My dad was 2 minutes late to me being born cus he was watching the last at bat on the hospital TV. He’s the soul reason why I like the Phillies so much.
I'm watching this on tube for the first time since I saw it in 2008. And I just gave to say. Finally I waited since 93. And earlier to see them win. Finally

I was only 9 years old when I watched this live with my parents, my brother and my grandma. I’m now 20 years old, 2 years into college and I’m halfway done. My grandma had passed away 9 months ago, and seeing her smile that night the Phillies won is a smile I will always remember. I was in Doylestown when celebrations were happening and the streets were packed everywhere. I’m glad I remember this night.
Watching this now is sorta bittersweet, especially with how many opportunities they had from 2009-2011, always felt they should've won one more. That parade was the shit. I'm 21 and this is the only championship I've ever witnessed, can only imagine what the parade/celebration will be like if Chip wins a super bowl.
Greatest moment in sports I ever saw. I watched the Phillies fail year after year since I was a kid, and just wanted to see them win it all one single time in my life. And it happened. And I'm forever thankful
My thoughts exactly... ironic, I just happened to be reminiscing with this video tonight as well. Feels good to see the 2008 boys back together again in their prime. Great moment in the life of every Philadelphian.
I was 16 in junior year of high school and watched the whole game. I was so happy. Half of my school were absent for the parade. 😂 Hoped we won again this year but I still love the Phillies. ❤️
I’ll never forget this night. I probably shouldn’t remember considering the condition I was in😉. My ringtone was Harry Kallas saying “Swing and a miss, struck him out the Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 world champions of baseball”. They went down hill after that🤕
This was a big moment for me cause I had my championship the same year as this World Series and I was the closer for my championship and when we won it was so awesome. Brad Lidge was a pitching idol for me and I thank him for it.
During the night of this game (after the delay) I was 10 years old. My mother called my father from work asking him to put me to bed. He "attempted" and I went to his room to watch the game instead. He let me come back downstairs to finish the game with him. I was so excited when the Phils won that I literally ran around the house a few dozen times. It was the greatest night of my life.
I was in SC at the time with no TV. You couldn't bribe anyone to watch baseball. I had to follow the game on a shitty app on a flip phone. Thanks for posting this
I remember when I was 7 when I watch this World Series it did give me the chills a little bit. Even though I'm not a Phillies fan but still give me a chills a little bit coming from a Yankees fan
Idc baseball will never feel like this again in Philly. Whether they win another one in the near future or not. This team was surreal. The atmosphere was surreal. Not even in Philly but including the suburbs, south jersey etc…
Why is the opening monologue so heavily weighted towards the rays? They were down 3-1 in this series! How is the opening line from Mr. Joe Buck not praising the Phillies for dominating the rays over 4 games thus far in the series? This is a clear reminder that the national media is swayed to praise the opponents of ANY Philadelphia team. Can they please let go of the incident in which santa (a fictitious made up character) was booed at an Eagles game? I have been to many professional sport establishments and have seen far worse altercations than santa clause being booed. This national bias MUST stop now, I am tired of this constant slight by the media. It is time to grow up and find another story to dwell on. Lets go Phillies!
dflowers30 alright mr. know it all. Eagles fans did not cheer for michael's injury. he even admitted it himself. "philly wasnt cheering for my injury" he said. he has no hatred for eagles fans so dont think that is a valid reason to hate philly fans. Also for Donovan Mcnabb no one really new what he could do so a couple of eagles fans booed him, it honestly doesnt matter because he has done a lot for philly and obviously those fans regret their actions but every team boos their own players so another unvalid point. So what if philly fans booed after the rays, its healthy competition. and for my final point, a biased Sports illustrated writer named us most hated, not a "recent poll". Now learn your facts before you talk trash, "flowers".
dflowers30 really dude? so you're telling me trash talking an opponent is something you would never do? im sure you would boo someone after you won. And im sure your nfl team has more issues than the eagles.
dflowers30 read my reply again, i also said after winning..... and Chip Kelly knows what he's doing. he gets rid of them for bad behavior and if he feels they dont fit in right. Sam Bradford is looking pretty good right now so your argument is invalid. since you wont name your nfl team i guess your a bit scared of the coutnless arguments about them.
When this happened I was in middle school 7th grade. I remember half way through the series my math teacher talking about all the players and how excited he was. After they won the 5th game the day of the parade in Philly school attendance was expected to be below 10% so they closed school for the day. Back then I could have cared less about baseball and sports in general. But as I got older I got into sports more. I wish I cared back then and played sports because I would have been a good football and baseball player.
The Phillies are perfect at home in the postseason I love it and won their first world series championship in 28 years since 1980 looking for their third overall
This was more satisfying than the eagles superbowl...maybe because it was 1st to end the drought. And they just had the dream team for the perfect year; good 5, great bats, decent bullpen, lights out closer. Saw alot of these guys come up in Reading (Rollins, Burrell, Hamels, Howard, Madson) over the years and I knew Hamels & Howard were going to be beast, glad they pulled it together for a year and got the pennant!!
I was born the year the won the first one so I bear no attachment emotionally to that one, in 83, I was in TX when the Sixers won our last World title, again too young to really understand the gravity of the situation. But this moment... was a moment as a Philly fan I've waited my whole life to be old enough to enjoy. I had my finger on my cell to call my grandmother in Philly to share the moment with her. I woke up my 2 1/2 year old son so he could say he was there to witness something no one had seen in Philadelphia for 25 years. Too special to put into words.
I always well up when I replay this video. I can't help it.....what a great moment for us Philadelphia sports nuts. Now, if any of the other teams care to follow suit..
I Was a Sophmore in High School When This Happened a Magical Night For Me Being a Phillies Fan I'll Never Forget It Before The Flyers and Eagles Get Their Titles Go Phils!

I was in Broad St. when they won the WS without knowing.. been stuck there for 3 hours. Best accident ever...
Great times. Greater memories. Hope to see a moment like this again in Philly.

I could watch this a million times.
I probably have.
I like how after he says "Phillies are World Champions" he's completely silent for like 2 minutes lol

Yeah. It’s called letting the moment breathe.

1:56:00 was so happy Jenkins could contribute. Such an awesome moment!!
I was at this game with my dad. I’ll never forget this till the day I die
Carson Wentz will deliver a superbowl in a few years
I Agree!
Nick Sacco I definitely agree bro
Deon the 13 king Davis Griffin Nice The Phillies are My 3rd Favorite Philly Team!
Who is your first and second philly team
Deon the 13 king Davis Griffin Flyers are #1 and The Eagles are #2!
I would've never thought I would see it but damn am I thankful I did. Best year ever
I was 16 in junior year of high school and watched the whole game. I was so happy. Half of my school were absent for the parade. 😂 Hoped we won again this year but I still love the Phillies. ❤️
Best closer season in the history of baseball. 2008 Brad Lidge is all-time perfection. What a fucking pitcher man
I’ll never forget this night.
I got chills watching this I miss this
If you listen closely to that crowd reaction to the winning strikeout, it was one big giant collective "YEAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!" Lol
The good old days. Still get chills when i c that last pitch
What a great call by Joe Buck! His best call for a Philadelphia team since the 2002 NFC Championship Game “Mitchell Mitchell Mitchell.”
I was in SC at the time with no TV. You couldn't bribe anyone to watch baseball. I had to follow the game on a shitty app on a flip phone. Thanks for posting this
Whos here after Bryce Harper sent the Phils to the world series??? Only 4 to go baby!!
I remember when I was 7 when I watch this World Series it did give me the chills a little bit. Even though I'm not a Phillies fan but still give me a chills a little bit coming from a Yankees fan
this was a young and best Phillies Team... I was really alive watching this team.
Idc baseball will never feel like this again in Philly. Whether they win another one in the near future or not. This team was surreal. The atmosphere was surreal. Not even in Philly but including the suburbs, south jersey etc…
Couldn’t this guy have any more enthusiasm?
Great video! 👇
PREACH IT!
Neil Sussman Joe Buck completely hates the Phillies. I've heard him express some enthusiasm towards the Eagles before, but nothing much.
dflowers30 alright mr. know it all.
I still say if the Eagles ever win a Superbowl this city will party for Months it's my philly sports wish !
amen
Jon snow Amen It be LITTY IN PHILLY
Jon snow will set the Comcast center on fire and parade the streets only wearing eagles jerseys for the next year
We’re almost there Jon!!
We almost there my guy!
I just won the World Series with Philly so I’m watching
2:16:42 "Burrell 0-1 tonight and 0-13 in this world series" Then he proceeds to wallop a double. Loved this team
What jinx, lol? 😆
This brings tears to my eyes as I know we have no remaining players from that team we are starting a new chapter
We got a team now, and Bryce baby MVP. But we arent playing amazing....YET
I always well up when I replay this video. I can't help it.....what a great moment for us Philadelphia sports nuts. Now, if any of the other teams care to follow suit..
Jeff Holden FAXXXXXXX Philadelphia is one of the best city ever and had the best sport fans
I Was a Sophmore in High School When This Happened a Magical Night For Me Being a Phillies Fan I'll Never Forget It Before The Flyers and Eagles Get Their Titles Go Phils!
Thank you for including the Ryan Howard Subway commercial
I just re-watched this and the one thing I never forgot from watching it live was how much the national announcers hated Philadelphia
This game happened right before I was born I watched it all
Great memory as a kid.
Thanks for watching! Let me know if you can help in anyway.
