My favourite Level 42 album. 'Good Man In A Storm' is an incredible song. Phil Gould is an absolutely brilliant drummer, and was huge influence on me. I love the fact that Jeff Porcaro was into Phil's playing. My two drum heroes.
I saw them live last night in Sheffield, UK and they performed Coup D'etat live. It was quite surprising to hear them do that one as i wasn't expecting it. It sounded great too
I know that it’s all too late now since Boon’s passing but I dare speak for millions of others that like myself would’ve paid almost everything I’ve got to see the original lineup back on stage again plus maybe even writing a new album together.
Interesting to hear all about the band, they were amazing. The reasons why they split up are sad to hear cos if they had stayed together they would have been one of the biggest bands of the 80's
on "leaving me now", the vocal key change (or is it just a note change: damn my ears) at the final singing of the phrase "this time": I really like that (i.e. this is the last vocal line from King, before the end playout)
I wonder if Phil and Mark have any kind of friendship these days, I mean if not it saddens me that these guys grew up together and went through so much.
synth lines on L42, thought was lindup, apparently was often wally b. best L42 thing to these ears was fairly straightforward songs but that just had different kinds of lines (vocal, keys, bass) to anything you'd predict (generally). wonder if that came from King primarily because Retroglide, though not great/good/much of anything, is all King and also is full of tunes in novel directions. would prefer less falsetto from good voice lindup in all pre-Retroglide L42, though.
I really love True Colours with the exception of Hot Water and The chant has begun. Both have that horrible pop sensibility and vibe that I wonder is what Phil was just starting to hate.
Level 42 were and will always be one of the best bands to come out of the UK ...Gould was an exceptional drummer. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Excellent! Great to see PG getting more coverage ...
Physical Presence... the fill after the second chorus is one of my favorite fills of all time. Tasteful, fitting, effortless, musical.
Yes that one is fantastic!
Leaving me now is my favorite song! Thank you for asking him about it! Great interviewer!
World machine is my favorite L42..... been bumping in my ride for 4 weeks now. S/O to all my 405 freeway family 💃🏽💚💚💚

Such a great album. Then discovering the European version- even better with Coup de tat, Dream Crazy and the masterful I Sleep on My Heart.
One of my favorite bands, with one of the best albums.

Lindup's voice has matured wonderfully.
