The difference between SVR07 on the 360 and PS2 were night and day difference. I still remember seeing it on the 360 and being shocked how awesome the game looked. Seeing the wrestlers sweat was amazing
Very happy to finally see you cover SVR 2007. Cool to know you are a fan of the WrestleMania and Day of Reckoning games. Fans are finding some cool cut content in them. Amazing to know that a PlayStation 3 version actually exists! Mindblown to know that you acquired an alpha build for the PlayStation 2 version! I can't wait to see footage of it! as a kid, i was so confused what happened to the sleeper hold system. i tried constantly to enable it but never figured out how. now i realize they just removed it lol
Very memorable time for me. As soon as I found out the 360 was getting the only "next gen" Smackdown game it was all over and I knew I was going with Xbox. Gears of War and Saints Row helped sweetened the deal and I quickly grew to love the Xbox Live experience despite begrudingly having to pay a fee, it was just so good, especially on games like Halo 3, GTA IV and some of the arcade games later on. Blu Ray was a solid feature on the PS3 but I think it was still early for most people to see the appeal. DVD was still popular with most, a lot of people I knew hadn't gotten HD TVs yet and many gamers weren't cinephiles who were going to run out and rebuy their favourite movies in the new format. I eventually did get a PS3 in 2011 and enjoyed it but I'm glad I went with the 360 initially. SVR07 played a big part in that decision for me at least.
SvR 07 was also the first game where Heat and Velocity were playable within GM mode. unfortunately its only use is to gain exp for superstars that are booked on those shows and that becomes moot after you win GM of the year. i've read that CAWs gain popularity when used on those shows but for me they've stayed at 20

I absolutely agree with you about your opinion regarding the changes of the industry at the time, as well as the difference in appeal between older consoles like the PS2, PS3 and XBOX 360 to modern consoles like the PS5 and XBOX series X/S (take the continuous distancing from physical media for example), as someone who also prefers Japanese video games and sometimes Japanese media, it was disheartening to see the direction the industry would take just a year or two later, not to mention since the 8th generation onwards, events like E3 would become a joke in later years instead of incredible showcases of technology like the 2006 one. I'm very much looking forward to see what unique features you have added to SVR 07 DE, the K.O and sleeper hold systems are indeed my only gripes with this game and I'd be pleasantly surprised to see them return. The cut roster is interesting, because if at one point Christian and bafflingly, Jericho were playable, this means the production of 07 must've started as far back as at least a year and a half before it's release, also, did you forget Orlando Jordan or was he truly never planned to begin with? because he was one of the rumored cut characters alongside Tomko and Yokozuna.
Could be a number of reasons we know they go through multiple drafts of what the roster will look like and from there wwe having to approve the final cut or could been lack of time to dedicate making a next gen model because they're focusing on the current day superstars.
SVR07 seems ageless to me It's funny how It was HD widescreen about 4 years before WWE Itself would go HD widescreen GM mode, create a locker room, matches, season mode, create a title, create a wrestler It was also the first video game I ever played online via the PS2, I remember the chatrooms and friends I made on there and If you don't count fan servers for the original SVR this Is the oldest WWE game to still have official servers up
I really hope that you can fix the title contention thing in GM mode, I’d build a championship rivalry up for weeks, only for the challenger to not be “in contention” at the PPV!
My biggest request for this game rebuild is please please PLEASE let us change the run button to something other than triangle. it's just so awkward to use triangle to dash while also having the grapples being the right stick. Because most of the time, it feels like you should hold the run button to run in a game. I'd rather have the control setup of the later games, where run was L1 and the finishers were assigned to triangle. I hope this comes out soon! i'll subscribe to watch any updates!

6:40 Yes, finally someone else who said SVR 07 being the best looking wwe game of that x360 generation. It also played like SVR 06, so in terms of gameplay, this was the last game I truly enjoyed. Gameplay slowly became sluggish from that point onward. Even 2k22 with its improvements feels sluggish doesn't capture the snappy feeling of the controls we had from smackdown 1- svr 07.

Actually I think that could work. The graphical style of the TNA Impact models isn't that different from Smackdown vs Raw at least to me.
