I just got hit with a wave of nostalgia, and Decided to go try and find this video. I used to watch this video all the time as a little kid. This video really bring back a lot of good memories from back then.
The organization here was slightly awkward, but well done overall. You might have mentioned that the ice flower has a completely different function in Galaxy. Also, Yoshi is sort of a power up in his own right, but I guess that's a gray area. Most overpowered award definitely goes to the cape feather. Best item ever.
One thing to note about the koopa shell suit (I've been informed the name is Blue Shell, but mechanically my fact still stands): Though it's not available as a question block suit, this ability is available in Super Mario 3D World. If you grab the shell and press the crouch button, you'll retreat into the shell which will don your character's color. If you're moving when you do this, you'll slide around the stage just like in NSMB. The one difference, aside from moving in 3D? If you spin in the shell for too long, Mario (or other character) will get dizzy and jump out of the shell to center themselves again.

It seems a few people were thinking the same thing I was about not mentioning being able to put on a Koopa shell and ride around inside it in 3D World. Someone mentioned they wouldn't consider it a power-up, but by that some logic, neither would Kuribo's Shoe or Skate. Other than that and a few minor overlooked items (Such as the Boomerang being a standalone power-up in Super Mario Advance 4 or the Carrot from Super Mario Land 2.) , great video! Very informative and well put together.
You forgot to mention the life mushroom from SMG and the golden mushroom in MK is actually called the queen mushroom. Also, what about the mega star from SPM, the super flower and carrot from SML, the 3-up moon and P-acorn from NSMBU?
In Super Mario 3D world, you can ride in a green koopa shell just like the old blue ones. While carrying one, just hit ZL or ZR. The faster you're running before you press, the faster the shell will go.

The part where you show Cat Mario on the Wii U, I noticed that you had a bell in reserve when fully powered up to use. Why don't I have that in my version of the game. In my version you cannot have any reserve power ups. Unless it's different in the U.S. I live in Norway so maybe different here.

great presentation, I wish you include the Gameboy Mario games, they had a few cool power ups. Marioland had the fire flower, but it could collect coins and Marioland 2 a rabbits ears that let you glide. they maybe uncolored but still a lot of fun. Really enjoyed the video.

There should be an earthquake flower that acts like a pow block, blowing away and killing all enemies within a certain distance when you do a ground pound.
What about the power-ups from Super Mario Land 1 and 2? SML had the Superball Flower as a replacement for the Fire Flower. Superball Mario could throw up to four Superballs on one screen, and unlike fireballs, they would travel in one direction until hitting a wall. They could also collect coins, and at least one area is designed to exploit this. SML2 had the original Fire Flower, but the game's flying mechanism was taken over by the Carrot, making Mario Bunny Mario.
i'd like to see a short range teleporting power up.. one that lets you teleport past walls or maybe even up to a higher platform where you wouldn't be able to get otherwise
Imagine if you could combine multiple powerups, you would be able to rule the universe! Here is all you would need, Blue shell, fire flower, mega mushroom, the cherry, and all 3 of the star power ups. Bowser would be killed quickly.
