I really hate people removing the free access of this great man's performances that makes us all smile. I am sure Fred would appreciate our appreciation.
Unfortunately one reason why these clips get removed is that his widow keeps an iron fist grip on anything related to Fred Astaire. You still can’t find his movies on home video and that’s even sadder
The song is called "Puttin' On the Ritz" written in 1927 by Irving Berlin (born Israel Beilin May 11, 1888 in Tolochin, The Russian Empire - Belarus today).
MsLatvia, Its refreshing to see somebody mentioning the songwriter. Irving Berlin composed over 3,000 songs through his 101 years. And he composed all his songs only on the black notes of his piano in the key of "f" sharp. He also had a lever built at the base of his piano that when pressed raised all the black keys up one octave. Irving Berlin was born in 1888, he died in 1989. As its coming up to Christmas, Ill just throw in that Irving Berlin composed the greatest Christmas song ever. White Christmas......

Fred Astairw was actually a fan of special effects and invented a few. Him dancing with himself as the backline in this video is a good example. He also does a cool floor to ceiling dance with ginger rogers that was a masterful use of mirrors. I get what your saying, and I agree, but remember special effects have their place in proper showmanship.
Actually, each of the back-up dancers are also Fred Astaire. I read this scene was filmed by carefully exposing only one tall narrow strip of the film stock at a time, shielding the others. Moving, exposing strip by strip across the frame. Then rear projection of the composite while Fred performed the foreground dance.
And in Easter Parade, there's this really cool composting thing, where everybody in the background is dancing normal speed, but Fred Astaire is dancing in slow motion up in front.
@Captainzilla418 some of them yes. Special effects does not mean cgi though. Anything done in post through editing is special effects, and this video itself is a good example of old school special effects achieved by splicing together multiple takes into one shot. Its also practical effect since he did every take himself. Also im not entirely sure where using mirrors would land. Practical effects for sure no days, but pretty sure that would have been considered a special effect back then.

I remember Taco's version of 'Putting on the Ritz' circa '80's but it wasnt until today when I stumbled upon your post that Fred Astaire did the original version. Thank-you!
Astaire's was the third film version of it. He also recorded the original, racist version, about enjoying mockingly watching the fashionable people of Harlem trying to be high-class, in 1930, but that wasn't the original recording. (It also uses two different offensive terms for African-American women.) Look for the Harry Richman record version (not his slightly later film version) for the first recording (also of the old racist version).
I love Fred's singing. By all accounts he was a very good and kind person, and that's what I hear through his voice. Actually, watching all the old Fred & Ginger films is how I'm getting through these times.

...I grew up with two of my paternal aunts (both Dominican sisters from the Caldwell, NJ motherhouse) visiting every summer for two weeks and I got to watch afternoon TV with them (something forbidden otherwise)...one loved these Fred & Ginger movies and the other loved the 30s & 40s Limey murder mysteries Film Noir...I had a wonderful, rich childhood, compared to many of my contemporaries...I'm 74 - 75 in 5 months...
He was brilliant ❤️❤️
120 éve született.Csodáatos életút volt az övé .Az egyik legjobb táncos színész volt.
The title of the song is "Puttin' on the Ritz," not what you have above. Lol.
Thank you for mentioning that. I just filmed a my local Orchestra doing this song with 2 great dancers and would hate to have it incorrect on our facebook page for people to see.
TheWriterWalker well according to the description its "See you later alligator" by bill haley and the comets. lol
TheWriterWalker but that's also a name of a different song which is nothing like this one
Trump wants it to be "Putin on the Ritz".
ahahahahah funny - he does have a lot of things beyond sticks and umbrellas in his tiny mitts
I still believe this the best song ever. Plus Fred! Thank you.
I would love to see the full version of this again. Its mesmerising. Guess copyright issues prevent it being shown.
Just shameful that money-matters/copyrights prevents this timeless work of art to be shown worldwide❗
Classiest man the classiest dancer he was in a class all by himself love love Mr Fred Asstair the dancing machine
My daughter n graddaughter love very olsongs n movies from the 30s
Fred is a brilliant performaner singer and dancer and aktor i like him very much
Taco rocked this song in 1983. Dude was a little creepy but was a great one-hit wonder.
Turns while catching the cane behind his back now this is class. Pure raw talent. Wow!
It's called PUTTIN' on the Ritz
Путин-огурец.

Calm down boomer
@@i-dont-understand-you-plea1626 While yeah boomers might be a bit more aware of the title *it was our parent's music, not ours!!* And besides, really -- "Put *it* on the Ritz"? What, like spray Cheese Whiz on a a Ritz cracker?
Fred at his historical ever BEST ever in outstanding ever amazing version for the NET! Merci beaucoup for his historical incredible incomparable Magic memory! Think about him, such an incredible incomparable Dancer and SINGER! MERCI BEAUCOUP. E

I don’t know… Judy Garland’s is pretty good 😅
The very official best from Hollywood History! I DO agree! Emmanuel from Paris France
I love this song
What a great clip, I somehow ended up with this song on my phone, so I come to check out the video, I can't believe I haven't seen Fred Astaire dance before. That bit where all the canes fly up from the floor into their hands was just amazing.
How cool was Fred 80 yr.ago? Still cool....
Great dancer and the dance troup were in perfect sinc. Great to see.
The taco version's video is the creepiest thing ever.
but -- very good
83 was a great year
But Taco 's version is the best!!! More elegant... more interesting.
also racist.
It plays out the original sentiment of the song perfectly. Berlin actually liked tacos version and probably the video also
Put it on Ritz should be PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ
Inigualable, que emoción ver como baila.😃
The best dancer performer of all time bar none. I was born in 81. Michael Jackson was crazy good , this guy without money, training whatever, just knew how to move before it was paid for.
Mr Wonderful himself the amazing Fred Astaire.
The music,the words,New York,the memories.Never to return,how said!
Do they even know who Gary Cooper was,Park Avenue, all gone,so bad.
"Put in on the Ritz" ? Like Fred's a piece of cheese or something...that's funny. However, there is no substitute for class and talent. Fred was the greatest.
Putin' on the Ritz
George Eid Vladimir Putin on the Ritz? :P
Holy shit like hes a piece of cheese 😂😂
Michael Fitzgerald p
sj conker SERIOUS issues!🤣
a very good song i love this song.
This song always reminds me of Mel Brook's movie, "Young Frankenstein".
Such a gorgeous man and dancer.
2022
It should be put in Fallout!
ikr
+Craving Raven New Vegas
maybe the taco version
IIRC, this was on the (sadly axed) Tenpenny Towers radio station in FO3. I agree, it would definitely fit in NV, especially if someplace like the Ultra-Luxe had a radio station.
This would fit so damn well if they ever added the NYC Wasteland. Maybe go to the ruins of Broadway and see mutants and ghouls tap dancing; hell of a time.
I love this song! He is such a good tap dancer. Oh my gosh!
Lmao that livestream was amazing, gj hazbin crew
HELLO COMRADE
Well I came from there
The greatest ever dancer male dancer ever from all TIME! Merci beaucoup from mgm rendering rendez-vous rendition historical remastered rendez-vous.
