All of the reviewers complaining about the seating position in a Tacoma. It’s been that way for decades. Get over it!!!! It’s still one of the best selling trucks. I’m 6’4” and have no problems in my Tacoma. I’d rather drive my Tacoma over my F450 work truck or our Lincoln.
I simply do not understand the seating position complaint. Like you said, it's been this way for so long. Even my 1993 Toyota Pickup has the same seating position.
Congrats dude! The Tacoma has a special place in my heart because I first learned to drive on my dad’s 1996 MT SR5. He still has it with 355,000 miles and it’s his daily driver. Great trucks for the money.

But im not an off roader of any kind, and I have not been put in a position to where I wish I had one in the 6 years Ive owned mine. Truthfully, unless you're a full time contractor where you would need an 8 foot bed, youre not going to find a better pick up. And the fuel mileage isnt a nightmare either. Its a well balanced practical truck when you dont buy a big package version like this. Im only saying this in case someone is reading comments while theyre truck shopping

The cab is the exact same size as the 2005. I had a 2012 TRD Off Road. I am 6'3 and I could never get comfortable and the seating position is brutal. I like Toyota and would get one again if they ever actually change the size of the cab and went with a turbo. I live in Wyoming and drive at elevation a lot and since going to the Ranger turbo it is night and day better than NA engine at elevation. Mostly I am just happy mid size options are now available and I think it will push Toyota to really improve the Tacoma.
The engine options for the Tacoma are definitely underwhelming. Always hear good things about the ecoboost in the Ranger and GM even offers a diesel in the Colorado/Canyon. EVs will eventually take over, so maybe it is not work the R&D spend at this point. My guess it Toyota goes turbo 4 cyl. in the meantime.

Wrangler is more compromised because it's further offroad focused... but ofcourse that has nothing to do with Jeep's pretty bad seats or some other deficiencies which it has
Just bought a 2022 Toyota TRD Off Road and I love it. it's the 2nd automobile I've ever owned- the first being a Honda Civic 1996 Ex. I'm so happy. My dad has Ford King Ranch f-250 Fx4, its a beast, but not for me lol. I've driven it around and man I feel like I am going to hit everything. 14:07 Congrats btw!
If you don't care about breaking down on the road, or don't care about your truck not lasting or holding value, then buy anything else other than a Tacoma; that is where it really shines. All the little things that the other trucks have, you can buy aftermarket for the Tacoma. Yes Toyota sucks for not giving us more in the truck with the insane price tag, but the Truck lasts and is reliable.
Amazing video Ryan! I owned a 21 Tacoma TRD off-road and loved it but switched to a TRD Pro 4Runner mainly for the cabin features and more backseat space. Wondering if you and your team have any plans to ever open up your test site to the general public? Especially with the new space.
I traded my 2017 Tacoma which I loved for a 2020 4Runner which I also love for the increased interior room due to my growing family. I would love to have this Pro though especially with its ground clearance.
Great review. Absolutely agree with you on the seating assessment. Was dead set on buying one of these in 2018. At 6’5”, I sat inside for a test drive, and hated it. Just not comfortable for even a test drive.
Good review and that was awesome I want one in that color. The good thing about crawl control and MTS like you said mimics a front locker is that it won’t give you steering issues like a front locker would. You can’t turn as good with a front locker on, also no human can do what crawl control does by applying the brakes individually to each wheel and sending power. The LX600 is becoming a grocery getter now, it’s not off-road oriented even though it has crawl control, low ground clearance and poor approach and departure angles makes it soccer mom car now not an off-roader. The best off-road vehicles from Toyota are the Tacoma and 4Runner, I just wish they kept making the FJ cruiser and that would be a 3rd option.
It's worth mentioning the LX600 has a special trim with 18" wheels with more tire sidewall and some other changes. I think it's to make up for the lack of the LC in the US market now.
@@elkofcanada5003 yea I saw that one, most important change for off-road is the smaller wheels that’s it. Still has shitty approach angles which is its main problem but I guess you can fix it with an after market bumper. I just wish it came from factory with high clearance front and rear bumpers or offer it as an option
What I will say is the bed rating has gotta be a conservative estimate. I have an ‘03 ford ranger and have carried 2000+lbs in my bed multiple times. Sure it lifts the front end off the road but the little truck can pull it off. Also my dream truck at the moment is a TRD pro in the military green Color but sadly I’m not going to realistically be able to afford it any time soon so this video both excited me and made me greatly depressed. Great review.
Why do reviewers harp on the autonomous nonsense? I make my money by traveling and rent cars constantly. I've seen most of what's out there and man am I so happy when a car just lets me drive without blinking at me and shaking the seat whenever I'm in rush hour traffic, much less trying to override my driver inputs.
How would you compare these course conditions to when you took the Raptor 37 through it? The Tacoma made this look easy when the Raptor really struggled.
I have a 2021 TRD Sport premium. I absolutely love it. I don't, however, recommend it to people. It's expensive. But can we talk about the elephant in the room? Can we talk about my dude Ryan and how he always looks into the cabin before he steps into a car like there's an IED inside? Lol...just kidding. Keep up the good work.
@@drivingsports I tow once in a blue moon, but I travel a lot on the highways. I also live in a super snowy state (Massachusetts) where the roadways are super narrow. So a midsize is the best suited for me. You’d recommend the Maverick or Ranger for reliability, comfortability, mileage, safety on the snow/ice/rain, and for towing my camper? I also go off roaring sometimes when I go hunting. I’ve been leaning towards the Tacoma, but I heard they’re uncomfortable for daily use. I also looked at the Colorado, but heard they aren’t super reliable after 100k miles. Thanks for any future advice, man! Love the videos, and keep up the great work!
Ryan, Around 22:22 you show us the LX 600 and explain its limitations under comparable conditions. It got me thinking,🤔 if only Toyota made a slightly less fancy version of the LX with more practical styling, better approach and departure angles, a full suite of locking differentials .... oh wait, they do. Maybe the same wild and crazy guys on the Toyota Board who just graciously bestowed the GR Corolla upon us will do the same with the GR Land Cruiser. We can always hope 🤩
@@moloono1 There are limitless TH-cam videos from around the world of various Land Cruiser models as they are equipped for different countries. The new Land Cruiser 300 Series is the model the new LX is based upon. In some markets you can get that new Land Cruiser with all the off-road gear I listed and the same old school 4.0 V6 currently sold in the 4Runner. The price is in the low $60,000 range. To be fair, the top spec GR Land Cruiser with the turbo V6 would cost as much as the LX 600. We will have to see how the new Sequoia copes with Ryan's course.
Yooo, those are so sexy, when I travel to school in Guanajuato, Mexico, I love seeing the trucks loaded with those TRD Pros, sadly their aren’t sold here in Mexico but it’s nice to see them make their way to the States
Good review. I just traded in my 09 Tacoma acess cab 4cyl for a 22 TRD OD It's going to be like driving a luxury vehicle and I personally don't have a problem with seating position
Wow, that was pretty impressive! It made short work of your course. Now you have to make more hard core trails on that new plot of land so you can foil the more baddass trucks.
I am so conflicted on trucks. I'm looking to buy a midsize truck anywhere from 2016 - 2022, price isn't really an issue for me. My problem is that I'm 6'6" and I want a truck that is well balanced with both on the highway and off road. I've been looking at Tacoma's due to their reliability but for highway driving I'm unsure. I'm also interested in the Jeep Gladiators (long term reliability is questionable) and Nissan Frontier. I work remote so no daily commutes. The truck would be used for typical home improvement uses, going to camp sites off the beaten path to remote / dispersed camping and lake sites hauling a kayak and fishing gear. But for the long road trips I need some comfort due to the travel from Kentucky to say New Mexico or Montana on adventures. Is there other Tacoma packages that is better suited for this over the TRD Pro? I don't plan to ever rock crawl/climb. Rather its forest roads, from easy to moderate. Nothing extreme since I do a lot of this solo.
Like your true review of how you need to be small to fit inside...seems each time I ever tried to climb in a Taco, only 6'0... I smacked my head getting in. On the OFF road portions, truly a no contest, but you have to get there. That price for basically a squashed old trend interior needs improvement, paying for discomfort as a daily driver...not worth it, and boy do you pay... Going to need to be a helluva redesign, and they must have something special coming. It is however, iconic, a Taco turns heads, regardless of the small person interior issues
Eenmaal volwassen worden de bloempluimen wit. Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' is een andere soort die ook soortgelijke bloemen geeft; limoengroene bloemhoofdjes worden bij rijping roomwit.
What do you guys think of the TRD Pro’s: 1. Front locker 2. Rear locker that can be used in 2HI and 4HI 3. Terrain management features that can be used in 2HI and 4HI 4. Fully boxed frame 5. 4 wheel disc brakes
There’s a shortage of all automobiles because since the pandemic no one wants to work anymore. The government pays for them to stay home and be lazy. Furthermore there are only 3 companies worldwide that make the computer chips for all vehicles and one burned down during the pandemic.
I have a Limited, that is all I could find in 2016. I still love it! Does anyone think it would be worth getting an aftermarket locker and lift since you cannot find a TRD PRO? No idea the cost.
That's a hot truck...but 51k with the 2023 model on the way just can't happen for me. Heck, I'm just here for some good quality content! Also, we all assume 2023 Tacoma will be 4cyl + Turbo, but do you think they are going to a coil suspension in the rear?
Nothing wrong with Toyota reliability but I'd still take a ZR2 or Ranger over this any day. I can't wait to see what Small/mid sized truck Ram comes out with soon..
Nope. Toyota took care of that issue in 2015 after they replaced/fixed every single Tacoma that had the problem AND made improvements to the frame going forward.
Excellent review How’s the quality of the front camera? It’s terrible on the 2022 4Runner trd pro. It might have to do more with the screen resolution that the camera itself though. Have you ever compared it between the Tacoma and 4Runner?
I own it and can tell you while it’s an awesome capable dependable truck, it has some disadvantages… The cameras are useless. Very low resolution. Auto trans poor unless offroad. Get a manual. Seating position awful. Steering wheel has plastic mixed with hard pleather - yuck. Open the glove compartment, everything falls out, and the fuel economy is laughably bad. Do I still love this truck? Yup. But Toyota has sure made some stupid decisions on it, and for this price and how many decades it’s been around, these flaws should not exist.
@@user-tb5ns7hc5i that's exactly how I feel with my 4runner. Great truck overall, but a lot of disappointing aspects for a brand new vehicle in 2022 with some of the tech from the late 90s. With that said, I can't and would not trade it in for anything else based on my needs
@@jbnissa626 how hard would it be for Toyota to just give pre/releases of the trucks to experienced fans of them like us for a few months , so we could give our feedback to sort out all these very stupid design issues they are overlooking to have them corrected before final release. These trucks are so close to perfect but flawed in inexcusable ways that just seem lazy to me from a design perspective that could be very easily fixed if they actually cared about the end customer usage of these vehicles. Frustrating. One of the biggest annoyances on the new Tacoma is actually the clock. Seems minor, but the time often disappears from many of the entertainment system screens, so you can’t just glance over to check the time without navigating through the menus to get back to the clock. Dumb. Put an old led flashing clock back in from the 80s or 90s! If it works, don’t mess with it. Also, I don’t need 4 menu nav button presses just to get back to the radio! My old am radio from 1975 could do that with one click and I didn’t even have to look at it. Again, just stupid design choices on the new vehicles. I swear the designers now must all have adhd.
Awesome video! Now go back and do the same trail with your 4Runner again! In fact you should always use the 4runner as a side by side comparison in each video. Lol, don’t listen to me though, I’m just a 4runner owner who lives too far from the trails. I have an itch that needs to be scratched.
My 1988 Lincoln Town Car is a body-on-frame and it tracks straight all the time it has nothing to do with the unibody have to do with the suspension in the steering.
Suspension is 0.5” higher front and back for 2022 over 2021. Previously it was 1.0” higher only in front over the regular Tacomas. So 1.5” front and 0.5” rear increase is over the regular 2022 models. Ground clearance doesn’t change and is same on all Tacomas.

I traded my 2017 Tacoma which I loved for a 2020 4Runner which I also love for the increased interior room due to my growing family. I would love to have this Pro though especially with its ground clearance.
@@Offshore1977which do you like more?
Great review. Absolutely agree with you on the seating assessment. Was dead set on buying one of these in 2018. At 6’5”, I sat inside for a test drive, and hated it. Just not comfortable for even a test drive.
I did the same thing but in 2019… after the test drive I tried the 4Runner … I took the 4Runner by a mile.
Roof height is just way to low. Chevy Colorado is about the same. Weird they didn’t bother to accommodate tall folks. Pretty big design iversight
I'm 5'8" and was still super uncomfortable in a Tacoma lol! Floor is way to high for my liking. Went back to a full size truck
A a fellow 6'5-er, I agree. Sat in my dad's and it's a LOW seating position.
Get the tundra.
Best small truck in the world, nothing else even close.
You do a good job. I like watching your reviews . Keep it up!
Impressive. I dig the lime color
I like that color. I wouldn't drive it, but I like to see it. Gives a Retro 90s or 70s vibe with that green
Cool truck but I’m still glad I got the TRD off road. Best bang for your buck package!
What truck would you recommend for everyday commute? Mileage, comfortability, reliability, etc.
Maverick. If you need more “truck like” the Ranger is the most comfortable mid-size for the money right now.
That’s an interesting take on the LX. I bet they could do something like an SR5 version made for off-roading.
Your videos are the best👍😎
Good review. I just traded in my 09 Tacoma acess cab 4cyl for a 22 TRD OD It's going to be like driving a luxury vehicle and I personally don't have a problem with seating position
My first choice was a t.r.d pro but is not offered in long box. So army green l.b. with all the bells!! It was. I was lucky to get back in February
If it wasn't for the world's most uncomfortable seating position, I would have ended up in a Tacoma instead of my ranger. Btw that color is awesome!
Wow, that was pretty impressive! It made short work of your course. Now you have to make more hard core trails on that new plot of land so you can foil the more baddass trucks.
Nice. 100% less 4Runner references.
That was a damn fine and honest review. Appreciate ya
Oh man... I WANT that color.... I love it...
I’d love a darker green
Cheaper to paint what ever you own that color than to pay 50K for it. ;)
Please review the 2022 Nissan Frontier.
Nissan has a lot of issues with the electrical system
When are you releasing the t-shirt emblazoned with LEGS AND TORSO PROPORTIONAL?
Hahaha, We always know he’s going to say that
I am so conflicted on trucks.
I have the 2021 and it is an absolute beast! I've brought it on a few back country camping trips and it handles everything with ease
What do you guys think of the TRD Pro’s:
1. Front locker
2. Rear locker that can be used in 2HI and 4HI
3. Terrain management features that can be used in 2HI and 4HI
4. Fully boxed frame
5. 4 wheel disc brakes
Sucks seeing these in press fleets whilst I've had a deposit down for 6 months and have no sign of it showing up.
This truck is 🔥🔥🔥
I want this vehicle, but I do zero off roading. Is that crazy? Is it a great daily driver?
Congrats on the extra property purchase!
Seat Jackers help tremendously for the seating position. Also 4:88 gears and a ECU tune wakes this truck up.
Love your videos and so do my kids!! I would love for you to test out my 2010 Tacoma TRD off-road D-4D diesel on your hill!! 🤔👊👍
Any videos on the blue toyota?
That's a hot truck...but 51k with the 2023 model on the way just can't happen for me. Heck, I'm just here for some good quality content!
Also, we all assume 2023 Tacoma will be 4cyl + Turbo, but do you think they are going to a coil suspension in the rear?
I think it’ll be a 2024 model year for the new Tacoma.
@@northerntoyota7584 That's gonna hurt...especially with the new Ranger coming in hot.
Coil would be cool. Honestly I'd just be happy if they finally added disc brakes to the rear, haha.
I hope Toyota keeps the leaf springs. The 5 ft bed is stupid
New Tacoma won't be out until 24/25. New 4runner will be out before the tacoma actually.
“Seat jackers” help with the seating position
Nothing wrong with Toyota reliability but I'd still take a ZR2 or Ranger over this any day. I can't wait to see what Small/mid sized truck Ram comes out with soon..
I have a 2003 Tacoma and I don't know if I would have to put it in 4x4 to go through his course.
Nice truck and nice review! Any plans on reviewing the 2022 Frontier Pro 4X?
I think the Frontier is better, until the Tacoma gets updated.
Rear cabin space is so much where Tacomas fall so flat for me.... I hope the new generation has more space with rear vents cmon toyta
Will the frame rust through in 5 years? 😅
Nope. Toyota took care of that issue in 2015 after they replaced/fixed every single Tacoma that had the problem AND made improvements to the frame going forward.
No in 3 months
Excellent review
How’s the quality of the front camera?
@@user-tb5ns7hc5i why'd you buy it then?
This makes $80k or so for a F150 raptor look like a hell of a good deal
I can't stop drooling over the new Corolla GR #makehothatchesgreatagain
it looks exciting
My 4xe drive's perfect down the road, my 2021 and 2014 Tacoma drove OK but constant vibration and steering wheel shake no one could fix !!!
Important question about the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro: which part of Texas was this shot at? The hills look awesome
Our test hill is in Eastern Washington State.
Please don't do negative cast on Tacoma. I own a 2022 Tacoma OFF ROAD . It was not built for drag racing, It was built as a tractor. Great tractor.
the headroom of the tacoma is probably the main reason i switched for 4runner trd pro.
The trucks a lot faster if you press the “ETC” button. It holds the revs longer and makes a noticeable difference
They should make this stunning color available in the rest of their lineup.
Lime green Supra anyone?
Lime green Supra would be awesome!
Love the show and your offroad segment, extremely intuitive and fair. Since you did the TRD Pro, what’s the odds of showcasing a Colorado ZR2?
I went from a 22 to a 92. I’ll wait till a 23 comes out.
The TRD pro looks so good!!!
What happened to your bed cleats?
