  • Carl Sommer, president of Reliable EDM, demonstrates Sinker/Ram EDM by machining a blind hex shape cavity with a super fine finish. Sinker/Ram EDM has revolutionized machining. Things that were once impossible to machine are now being done with Sinker/Ram EDM. Any electrically conductive material can be machined with EDM, even tungsten carbide.
Sommer, president of the largest EDM job shop in North America, has co-authored with his son Steve, a mechanical engineer, Complete EDM Handbook. The handbook is free at their website.

Thank you for uploading this video. I found the verbal and visual explanations to be very descriptive and helpful for learning! By reducing the voltage, a much finer surface finish is produced correct?

We have a EDM AGER 320 Sinitron, the spark color is yellow and it damage my work piece, what is the problem?

Settings must be wrong ---sounds like a lot of 'arcing' if it is doing damage ----try lower , slower , less amp settings

very interesting, always wondered how the made allen head sockets, they must use a ram EDM machine

I guarantee they are not using EDM to put the hex in bolts that you buy at the store. They would have to charge so much money ber bolt if that were the case.

No they don't-- it is a specialist machining process which is too slow for mass production

Russel Dougan no way, do you know how insanely expensive that would make those fasteners? And they don’t need to be that precise anyway. Socket head cap screws are forged for production use.

As always: youtubers know best; i skipped a beat or two when you pointed with that metal rod.. isn't that high voltage?

Electricity will always follow the path of least action.
In this instance, the machine is already grounded, creating an already short and easy circuit for the electrical energy to follow, much easier than going through flesh and then a rubber sole.
