Broke a String, and a tooth, in same performance... ( Read his lips, looking off stage, " broke a tooth, smiled, says I'm Ok, ) Finishes performance. Goat anyone?
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness Guitar swap, behind the back, one-handed, with his teeth (he lost a tooth), backward, epic speech...GOAT.
The speech changed every performance , every night...and when he got sober , it changed even more. ( Several performances of this song live out there) But he never preached, had no agenda, wasn't trying to sell shit, or worried about sponsors. ..( cuz he had none) SRV , spoke from the heart, in the moment , he cared.. Another notch in the GOAT, belt.
Speaking of getting sober, I just read in ‘The Onion‘ that God said in an interview that he was so F'ed-up at the time that he actually forgot that he had created the universe!
I was fortunate to witness SRV on three different tours. No one else has ever pulled high notes that affect me the way he does. Sometimes it makes me holler other times I cry. He always praised other musicians - so humble. Will always love and miss him.
I was impressed in your reaction giving props to the band (other reactors never do) - if you really want to see Stevie's mannerisms, sense of humor & the type of person he truly was check out him with the legendary blues man Albert King having a jam session in studio. The performance was over an hour long but there's lot's of shorter clips available- the amount of respect between them is humbling for two musicians of their caliber.
The saddest thing about this talent is, he was just getting clean, and happy with life finally, when he was killed!! I was lucky enough to see him and Jeff Beck together during his final tour. No telling what we may have seen.❤️👆🏼
There's just no one like him to this day, IMHO. Can't help it, I love him. If you had listened to this performance without watching, I'm sure you couldn't tell where Stevie's guitar was at any given time. His voice together with that tone is a match made in Heaven, or some undiscovered planet. The "Dirty Pool" performance at Montreau ! Double Trouble and Stevie Ray were meant to be together, they were almost like one entity. And how closely Tommy watches him. His kind of swag was so natural and unpretentious, just cool. ❤️💔💙 RIP, King SRV. ☮️
Let's Gooooo! I was lucky enough to see him live open for Robert Plant. He literally seduced me with his guitar and then he sang...smooth as butter. When he was finished I needed a smoke and so did his guitar 😂 By your reaction I take it you've never seen Texas Flood live from El Macombo...it's a must ❤ Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
Okay, this is THE GOAT. His skills were perfect. He was perfection and making him even greater, he was humble. This video always gets me emotional. It's a song he wrote about a friend of his who passed away. And, there was something going in the world, that he talks about during the video, telling us all to get along and help each other, not bring someone down. That is who SRV was. When he died, we lost a legend and more importantly, we lost a caring and loving human. Sorry for getting all emotional, this video does that to me. Edit-you are absolutely right about his band-they took their cues from Stevie and did so brilliantly-epic band, no question. Oh, and SRV played with 13 gauge strings, by the way.
You need to check out Jeff Healey also. He was a blind guitar player and singer that played his guitar flat on his lap and he did play with Stevie Ray Vaughan also on a video called little sister that's amazing. Stevie really respected Jeff's playing. Unfortunately both of them are no longer with us
I saw him twice in the 80's and a great thing about SRV is he used to like to hire local bands to open and my friends band opened for him one time. It was really mind blowing.
I always felt like SRV was an open medium channeling music seamlessly and effortlessly like no other guitarist has ever done. He died in 1990 at the age of 36, and what more would he have given us had he lived? RIP SRV. Some must listens: Pride and Joy, Leave My Little Girl Alone, Couldn’t Stand The Weather, Little Wing, Ain’t Gonna Give Up On Love, Blues At Sunrise (With Albert King). I enjoyed your reaction, TY. Enjoyed your reaction, TY.
The keyboard player is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been with Joe Bonamassa for the last ten years is amazing. Saw them in Savannah Georgia in December.
Corey did a version of Texas Flood but it wasn't the best version of the song. Live at the El Mocambo is def the best version if you wanna see some behind the back stuff. This was pretty tame compared to that one! Another recommendation is Tin Pan Alley ft. Johnny Copeland. Either you or Corey did that song but without Johnny on board. It's Fire!!! PLEASE more Stevie!! I did get a chance to see him and it was everything you'd expect from this master. Btw, did you know he couldn't read music. Everything he created was by sound alone. Unbelievable but true. RIP to the greatest guitarist the world has ever known.
Such a very special video & song. SRV had so much love to give, it just ooozed out of him. I miss him every day. I cherish this video because it shows how a true professional Can work through tech difficulties- flawlessly.
stevie ray was a once in a lifetime artist... i remember the day he died like it was yesterday.. i remember where i was and what i was doing when they announced his death on mtv.. i cried like a small child, he was my guitar hero... excellent choice today sir!!
Stevie Ray was my brother at the age of 10 he was playin guitar behind his back goin' down the road on his bike. We are used to it. He is good at playin the guitar on the front pourch and one handed. ❤❤The frist time we see what he can do with a guitar we are MIND BLOWN. After that though we are pretty much used to it. ❤❤ There are 4 of us 2 boys and 2 girls. I am 2 years younger then Stevie Ray. So I guess that makes me his Little Sister. Good tone by the way. Stevie will always be my NO.1. ❤❤❤❤
Great song, amazing musicians. Some people are too talented! I can’t play guitar the right way anywhere near his level and I wouldn’t even try behind my back 😂 Dude is 🔥
Have you heard of Arc Angels? They were a supergroup formed after Stevie Rays death and was composed of Vaughan’s friends Doyle Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton and two of the band members from Stevie Ray’s band Double Trouble, drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon. Their songs “Living In A Dream” and “Sent By Angels” are phenomenal! I saw them live around 1992 at a huge festival in San Antonio. The headliner for the festival which ran for several years was Legs Diamond. THEY, LEGS DIAMOND, WERE THE HEADLINER EVERY YEAR with much more famous artists playing at the week long festival than they were. They were an LA Rock band that never quite hit the big time nationally, but in San Antonio were literally as big as the Beatles! 😊 Their EPIC song “Woman” is a must hear. Keyboardist, Michael Prince, also became a very famous sound engineer and was Michael Jackson’s sound engineer from I believe 1995 - 2009. His keyboard work is amazing throughout this song. “Living In A Dream” Arc Angels th-cam.com/video/qtLw_53C95M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=syoHzekELS4BLRec “Sent By Angels” Arc Angels (A song for my wife 😢) th-cam.com/video/eCjcLI2Jv18/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YAieQyfIF0O2yP03 “Woman” by Legs Diamond th-cam.com/video/GjhLqCNMmXE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SGYmO_DYmHEvufCf
no one ever mentions that he changed guitars in the first few minutes from the red one to the white one. also when he played with his teeth he pulled one of his teeth out . after you can see him look off stage and show his teeth then he says my tooth then looks away and then back and says it's gone.
Actually Roy Clark and James Burton were playing guitar behind their backs decades before Stevie was. Being from Austin - and remembering Stevie and Jimmie Vaughan before they were famous, I feel it’s ok to point this out. You should check out Jimmie’s playing too!
I find it hard to believe you’ve never seen Stevie play behind his back before. People talk about Eddie being the best ever, I disagree it’s Stevie Ray Vaughan. Look up videos of him playing behind his back.
👏🙌🎶🎸💙great reaction as usual! This is an iconic fan favorite you've just witnessed. You didn't catch the guitar switch in the beginning. It was out of tune and he was switched out to that white one so smoothly that it is easy to miss your first time. Stevie composed this song after the sudden passing of his good friend, Charley Wirz, a Dallas guitar shop owner. Charley put that guitar together out of spare parts and Stevie named the guitar after him. Thanks for bringing this today💯‼️👌✌️. I recommend Riveria Paradise as performed at Austin City Limits 1989. He dedicates it to all those still suffering in any way. It is considered his masterpiece. Stevie rehabbed and recovered 10/13/1986 and I'm not sure you e experienced clean, sober, happy, and healthy Stevie yet but you must! PS, I think you need to create Stevie's own playlist🎸🎶💙‼️💯
@@harrietmiller3982 Harriet, I 💯 agree!!! Riveria Paradise is a must see!!! And a separate SRV playlist would be great!!!!! Much easier to binge watch SRV that way!!!
SRV can switch out guitars like no one's business. The book Texas Floor is a great read with alot of interesting info about Stevie 💚 I think he lost a tooth on that one...the price of being a great showman 🎶🎵
The bass player here, Tommy Shannon, is the same bass player on the Edgar Winter / Johnny Winter Tobacco Road 1970? footage you reviewed not long ago. How about that!
Two things...First the guitar switch everybody misses and while using his teeth, he loses his tooth. You clearly see him saying..."i lost my tooth...it's gone...and you see him looking for it in stage.
Lovin your' reactions my friend! Thank You! May I highly recommend - SRV - live w/ Johnny Copeland: Tin Pan Alley; SRV live with Albert King - Sessions - my favs are Born Under A Bad Sign; Don't Lie To Me & Blues At Sunrise. He also has collabs with Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, BB King & he also started getting better known back with David Bowie. His 'sound check' is pretty stunning & you'll enjoy most anything he plays. ❤
NOT being a musician but a MEGA HUGE fan of his (I was very fortunate to have seen him perform …. twice!) could you briefly explain what you mean by “leaving space”? I just recently heard someone else say that very thing about him so now I’m curious lol. As to your comment about his command over the guitar, I read some time ago his then wife said he would go through the motions of playing his guitar in his sleep. LET’S GO!!
I mean not trying to cram so many notes within a measure just for the sake of doing it! Sometimes the most important notes are the ones you don’t play! 😎
