      Reacher gave them a choice because he was an officer and a gentleman.
      He also knew they would come for him, and that made his actions self-defense as opposed to killing them outright. This looks much better from a PR point of view. Basically, he gave the pedophiles enough rope to hang themselves.

    His question to Roscoe at the end of this scene may not have been only a turn-around about the children. It was also about trust. He thought, until that moment, that he had her complete trust. When she asked about what happened and then she said that she wanted to know the type of person she was dealing with, he couldn't believe it. So, in addition to the obvious question about killing people who harm children, the more implicit question was, "_Now_ do you trust me?" When he said that he wanted to know the type of person he was dealing with, it was about whether or not she trusted him. If she couldn't, they would have to part ways. I think that was the reason for the hesitation. She realized she screwed up and was, in her way, apologizing to him.

    Men have a duty to God and country, but an obligation to defend women, children, and defenseless animals from cruelty and harm.

      Tom did a good job for those who haven't read the books as he embodied the characters essence as in his code of right and wrong.
      Alan embodies both the characters physical and mental essence.
      The way Tom played him allowed the character to be underestimated and while that was a huge departure from the books, it was entertaining especially the scene where he blends in with the people waiting for the bus.
      There is no way the bar scene in the first movie would have even got outside once Alan's version stood up.
      Nor would the bus scene work or been as funny.
      The movie version work in the context it was set while the TV show works as its more closely linked to the books.

    A lot of us never readapt to civlian life. Take it for granted every veteran you know or meet has a mental issue, apparent or not. Don't be an a**hole and ask, "What did you do in the Service?". That's the only scene I disliked from Reacher. I understand the American patriotism displayed in that scene, but it's notorious that soldiers are the ones who sexually assault women and/or children in the countries they are sent for a mission.
    Not that the locals would not be able to commit such crimes, but legitimate, corroborated war stories about the offenders of such acts show almost exclusively the soldiers and not the locals as being the perpetrators. Not many talk about this detail which I find of great contextual importance.

      nope, in this case, in the middle east/central asian, it is well known that men abuse boys. Go look up what happens in Afghanistan. Its not a one-off thing, its systemic. Ofc America has done worst things but when it comes sexual assult of boys, it is a damn near custom in central asia. Look up "Dancing Boys"

    • @goldie44451
      @goldie44451 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the Middle East, stuff like this is a lot more normal, especially in Afghanistan. It is like a cultural tradition for town leaders and elders to have like child boyfriends, and it is as messed up as it sounds. It’s been a thing that’s happened for generations and generations all over Afghanistan. There was a documentary where Afghani volunteer soldiers were asked about it, and all of them said they all went through it when they were kids. There is also a lot of incest occurring with cousin marriages over there too, look it up. I think the official statistic for people with parents related to each other is 1 out of 5 people in Afghanistan.
