7:20 - That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard, you don't need to go to a different place to know things about that place or where it is located. I'm portuguese and I've never travelled to any of the other continents but I can say where the large majority of African, Asian, American and the Oceania's countries are on a map. I can even point where the majority of the US states are located but I taught myself that!

Easy excuse, I'm Dutch, quite well educated and yet learned most of my topographical and geographical knowledge not in school, but due to traveling and a personal interest in everything concerning maps.
I think it's not so much an intelligence or educational issue, but one of genuine interest or rather a lack of.
Keep in mind we Europeans often say there is a lack of (proper) education in the US when it comes to topics like this, yet the US has the best-surveyed education system on the globe! American students however consistently score lower in math and science than students from many other countries.

Exactly quite well educated, if you had no education then more than likely you wouldn't have a desire to enhance your advanced knowledge. It's about education and a desire to know. I have never travelled abroad yet I've learnt so much about geography history astronomy geology empires rivers dinosaurs great battles to name a few. Pretty much everything apart from written English celebrities and bugs. Saying you have to travel to learn is utter nonsense no astronomers go to space.

7:20 Sorry, but that's a lame excuse. You don't have to travel to know geography.
An astronomer doesn't have to be an astronaut and a historian doesn't have to be a time traveller either.
And only blaming the public educational system is also a short-sighted thing to do.
Everyone, who really wants to broaden his or her horizons, can easily do so with a little bit of commitment.

Also the fact that the USA is a single country with a single political structure. Whereas Europe is a continent divided up into 44 countries, each with their own politians and political structures. We know a lot about USA politics as many of us take an interest, very minor number of USA citizens take an interest in European politics. Sorry but I have to disagree with the end, yes Brits have a shit weather (I know I live there), but counter example: France has all the weather you can imagine, just in metropole you can get from shitty weather like Britain, to Hot weather like Italian / Spanish weather. We have all the landscapes possible and imaginable... and if you include overseas, we litterally have 12 time zones worth of islands and territories, in North America, South America, Caraibes, Indian Ocean, African coast (Comores), and Oceania and Pacific ocean. But we still travel a lot around in other countries...

I'm from Poland, country like any other, our school system is average, not awful, not amazing.
I could point to pretty much any country on the map and say what was the capital- when I was 14 and I'd never travelled abroad before.
Just because the school demanded it.

@@manmosu1866 but it's not the point. I know plenty of people who never left the country and still have great knowledge. Heck, many older people here never had a chance to travel, because we were literally separated from the world by Iron Curtain and also many people under communism were just too poor to go anywhere. It's actually worse than described when it comes to Americans who own passports to travel far and wide. In 1989 only 3 percent of Americans had passports. It rose dramatically in recent decades due to the new barriers for Americans traveling to Canada and Mexico after 9/11. The growing Hispanic population in the US also increased passport usage.

    Fun fact 1.
For modern IQ tests, the raw score is transformed to a normal distribution with mean 100 and standard deviation 15. This results in approximately two-thirds of the population scoring between IQ 85 and IQ 115 and about 2 percent each above 130 and below 70.
The term 'normal distribution' means, there is an equal amount of (American) people to appear to be stupid in TH-cam videos as there is an amount that knows those answers but are intelligent enough to NOT show their faces on TH-cam.
    Fun fact 2
The same is true for everyother country in the world.
    Fun fact 3
This doen't mean that person A from country A has to have the same raw score on the same IQ-test as person B from country B. This is because you are evaluated against your peer group. It is possible that persons from country B have ON AVERAGE a higher raw score than people from country A
(Really a fun fact: A stands for America. But now I am really joking 🙂

I know about RFK, and what about Biden, didn't he drop out, and now are Kamala vs Trump, and RFK ofc? Did I miss something? And I, based on my personal experience, think that Americans are far from dumb, on the contrary, I have quite a few very dear US friends, that are amazing and friendly people. I just think that you in the US have a different education, and are more focused on the US, and not necessarily so much on the rest of the world, and some "general global information", as much as we in the EU are. And in many cases, even media propaganda, which you are constantly exposed to, your whole lives doesn't help. Neither does the "McCartny red scare set of mind", in which at least four generations of Americans have grown up, and literally being brainwashed their entire lives to automatically see socialist countries and people as something bad, and to be scared of them. But those last things are not even people's fault. It's just a consequence of the US system, and foreign policy, since the Korean War until today, more then 60 years of propaganda. So you can't really blame the people for that. I'm only glad that nowadays in your and mine generations, there are more open minded and free thinking lovely people as yourselves, who want to learn about the world, more then ever before. Greetings from Serbia, southeast Europe.🙋🇷🇸❤️🇺🇸🥂🙏🌄
