I was driving through Wyoming but not in a park and I turned a corner and there was a Moose in the middle of the road. I managed to stop about 6 inches from her. We made eye contact and it was beautiful. All of a sudden, two little babies came out of the woods and they all crossed the road. That memory is precious to me!

Hey Sharleen. I’ve watched at least 10 seasons of the Bachelor/Bachelorette but my GF and I decided to finally watch your season. I’ve always been a fan but that just grew tenfold. I stood and clapped after you received the first impression rose when you said what mattered was if you felt a connection. Bravo. You were a queen amongst the cast who never compromised in your beliefs for the camera or the excitement. I’m so happy you found Andy and he’s even luckier to have found someone like you. I wish the two of you nothing but the best.

Also, I think humans pay for paintings for a couple of reasons: 1) it's a way to move money across borders easily 2) the investment 3) as a way to display their wealth on their walls. And, love of art of course.

As a fellow worrier who is always battling negative thinking and catastrophizing, I want to share this quote: "If you get caught up in the worst case scenario and it doesn't happen, you've wasted your time. And if you are caught up in the worst case scenario and it does happen, you've lived it twice."
I heard Michael J. Fox say this in an interview on CNN in the doctor's office waiting room 10 - 15 years ago, and the idea that if I assume the worst I will have lived through it twice really stuck with me.

I would think Andy's favorite beauty find of 2023 would be his barber in Seattle. Great selection of questions and Sharleen, you have given us a superb fashion show this year. Thank you for sharing about the negative thinking. I tend to over worry about things too. But I did think it was helping the outcome. I'll have to think about that one. The dead hooker comment from Andy almost had me on the floor, I was laughing so hard 😂. I'm a senior citizen who has a very long dating, cohabitating, and married life history, and no man has ever mentioned needing his own locked room. I was even engaged to an artist I lived with for years. He did his art in the living room floor, the dining room table, a spare bedroom. I just don't think that's it Andy, but I could be wrong. I do think you hit the nail on the head when you said maybe he didn't have his own space growing up. We are a product of our parents and, subsequently, childhood. She needs to know exactly why and it better be a fantastic answer.
Great end of the year episode. It was very enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable. I hope you both enjoyed your holidays and some well-deserved R&R 💕

    THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY!!!
One of the best books I read in 2020 💚
I'm still encouraging you to read THE GIFT OF FEAR by Gavin deBecker!
Its smart, educational, well written and could potentially save your life!
I think it's an important book for young adults so they can learn to listen to their sixth sense (gut feeling) and possibly keep themselves out of a dangerous situation.
    Please consider reading this book!
And I humbly add that I have a bookroom with 1650+ books...I love and respect books and The gift of fear is one I've never forgotten and bought for every young person in my life.

There's a great Shakespearean quote: "Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold" which I've always loved and think it certainly gets to the heart of the idea of the trancendentals: Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. I've largely thought of the expense of art as a product of the practical reasons, ie rarity, those listed in kimberlyf4888's comment, etc, but Andy, you make a good point. There are lots of things that are beautiful and rare; and many of those are crafted items as well. Why art? "...their conception of beauty inherent", that seems spot on. And there seems to be something in the unsaid. A car is that and has that function while paintings have a mystery to them. They give more. I appreciate the thought!
Sharleen, so glad to hear you are making strides in not being a people pleaser! I've often heard that from women, this idea of 'what did I do wrong?' and often enough it's not them, so it's a great thing to see that overcome. In my experience it seems especially difficult for people who have a very caring heart, so there's that to be glad of.
Happy Holidays! Loved the plant tips!

I think both you and Andy would really enjoy the humans by Matt Haig. It's about an alien that is sent to Earth to kill a human and he winds up having to take his place first and kind of discover what it is to be human and the difficulties and things, it's not super sci-fi it's really more just a view on life and it is so good!

Yes! Thank you for the recommendation. I checked this out at the library yesterday and finished it today. It's funny, deep and heartfelt. Moved me to laughter and tears several times. Hi there. As an avid and longtime pickleball player I just want to add a few comments regarding the pickleball group situation. Dynamics on the court are very fluid and it is not uncommon for one player to remind their partner that a shot was intended for them to return. The difficulty arises when the reminder is given quickly in the middle of the game as it often comes across in short form which can definitely be construed as aggressive on the part of the player that missed the shot. I agree that the caller bears responsibility for ensuring that her comments are taken in the vein intended and between the two of them they can set ground rules for how they communicate as a team when playing together. With regards to being left out I have also had a similar experience. I was responsible for organizing our group of players for around five years and considered those people to be friends. However, out of the blue and with no advance warning half a dozen of the group decided they no longer wanted to play with the rest of us. They were quite deceitful in how they went about this and seriously they reminded me of stereotypical mean girls. For added context this was a group of supposedly mature women in their 40’s to 60’s. At the end of the day I decided that these women were not the kind of “friends” I wanted to invest any time and energy into and have found other new and absolutely delightful people to play with. I have since discovered it is not unusual within the pickleball community for some people to just splinter off and no longer have any communication with people they played with for a number of years. I hope the caller has recognized that there are always going to be different people to play with and that changes in groups are not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes friends are meant to be “situational” (as in people in a dance group or an exercise class) and then there are true personal friends that one has a deep connection with. Those are the friendships that I hope everyone learns to treasure and protect as they are the ones that will sustain you through the ups and downs of life and they require time, attention and good communication in order to maintain them. Perhaps the caller will decide to differentiate between the two in the future. Thank you for all your amazing podcasts and I wish you both Happy Holidays and the Happiest of New Years!!!!

About the locked door, maybe he doesn’t want her to see his art after he has worked on it, so not just uninterrupted time to work on it but to keep it private until he’s ready to show it to someone. That would maybe make sense.

Tickling: I'm going to take this a little heavy to make my point. Men should just assume Tickling is off the table unless given enthusiastic consent. I say this because Tickling is usually the first 'testing of the water' that groomers do to children. Many people don't have great memories attached to Tickling.

Art is a way to pay for goods and services or to hide or wAsh money. High end Fashion is similar, it doesnt mean art isnt truly appreciated it just means the morally corrupt side of humanity saw an opportunity to use it in a way to hide their hideousacts.
