DJI OSMO POCKET 3 vs SONY ZV-E1 / FX-3 / a7SIII

- In this video I compare the DJI OSMO POCKET 3 VS The Sony ZV-E1 image quality which is also the same as comparing the DJI OSMO Pocket 3 vs the Sony FX-3 or a7SIII. Because the Sony ZV-E1 is geared for vloggers and content creators, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is it's direct competitor at less than half the price. In my opinion, the DJI OSMO POCKET 3 is way better than the Sony ZV1, ZV1II and ZV-E10 so it is not worth the comparison. The DJI OSMO Pocket 3 has better overall image quality than due to it's ability to do 10 bit D-log as well as 4k60 and 4k120.

The problem :
"Dear
Thank you for contacting DJI Technical Support.
We are grateful to assist you with your concern.
Regarding your situation, we are sorry to inform you the main camere battery cannot buy singlely, we recommend you to buy the battery handle to help yo solve this issue. This could also help you solve the battery life issue."
So you trow away the Pocket 3 in 2 years maximum when battery no longer charges.
It’s ridiculous how good the DJI is.
It is
Yeah, it looks fantastic. I've only just purchased an Action 4 but I'm still tempted by it.
@@TheWalkingKev be a great companion
@@nVuFilms nearest thing I have to the Pocket 3 is the Sony RXO 2. But that needs a gimbal, doesn't have continuous autofocus and only does 4k @ 24 or 30p. Sony's ZV line pretty much pointless next to the Pocket 3 unless you go for the ZV-E1 for image quality / low light.
Still think the dji pocket 3 doesn’t have good quality video, not even close to the Sony
The image quality out of the pocket really is impressive. Definitely checks a lot of boxes for a lot of creators. Excited to see what comes with pocket 4 and on.
Yup
I’m hoping for a Pocket Pro at some point with a hasselblad lens array/zoom, weather sealing, and removable battery! 🤞
@@FreemanLaFleur watch 👀
@@FreemanLaFleur that would be so cool - a 20 - 40mm would be enough for me
ure funny. pocket 4 will take 2 to 3 years. and it will be a small advancement to the 3. what we really need is an global advancement in camera sensor technology across all cameras. there are already interesting projects in the research labrotories but i wouldnt wait for it . will take 10 or more years.
This week I’ve found myself grabbing the Pocket 3 over my a7siii + rs3 a bunch more than I’m comfortable with. The ability to bring a discreet gimbal stabilized camera anywhere with me in my pocket is giving me lots of dopamine. The larger sensor, active tracking, motionlapse, mechanical stabilization, and DJI mic all make this a no brainer over something like the iPhone 15 pro or ZV-1ii. I would LOVE to see a Pocket 3 Pro with a Hasselblad lens array/zoom, weather sealing and removable battery.
Probably soon
Don't forget variable aperture.
I think the removable battery is already covered. Just buy additional battery attachments.
Any chance you could share some side by side footage from the A7siii and pocket 3? Im wondering if I can get away with cutting to the pocket for the occasional shot in docos.
@@extremekidproductions7859 its the she image as zve1
You're killing it with this topic! Pocket 3 looks impressive for that price tho!
Thanks, Se. Yea it's shockingly good
Great coverage!
I just received my DJI. I have the A7IV and a6600… but I can’t wait to compare as you did. Thx for sharing with us! Love the content.
Thanks for watching
@kevinbarrow5181 how does it compare to the a6600 ?
And how?
How do you like the DJI so far ? I do have the a7iv plus a7cii
What were your color settings for the Osmo Pocket 3? I'm trying to figure out if D-Log M or HLG is better for matching to S-Log3. Did you shoot in HLG and did you have to tweak your exposure at all. I thought I heard you need to shoot -0.7 underexposed. Or did you shoot in D-Log M and use the DJI provided LUT to get the shots to match?
Great video bro! Really enjoy your last conversation with the other dude, it’s epic!
🤣
It genuinely looks great. I actually wish that DJI made APSC and FF cameras with the L-Mount. That would be epic
👀
Check DJI Ronin 4D :D Seems they released Lmount unit for it.
@@JoATTechok so pocket 3 is about 600 dollars and is palm sized, ronin 4d is 6000 dollars and enormous, there could be a product that sits between the 2, a ‘pocket pro ‘
@@clarkjamesdigital There is:

BMCC6k got Lmount and with gimbal it's ~4k USD.
And you got BRAW recording.
Something like the zenmuse gimbal and lenses from the inspire just in a handheld form
The image quality from the ZVE1 is incredible. The DJI is so impressive for its price wow. It really does hold up well. Getting mine end of the month
Love the DJI Pocket 3...especially the tracking feature which is very very good even in longer distances. I just wish the track was a little smoother as opposed to the sharp movements.. If they added the option to smooth the tracking, that would be an absolute gamechanger
You can adjust the gimbal speed for smooth tracking
@@AugustClay779 Oooooh.. Just seen that... Thank you.
I love my pocket 3 but I'm a complete novice, this is my first camera 😂, I love the tracking.🤠👍
Love this comparison! Please keep making Sony + DJI mixed videos. The color grading matched perfect! Any future tips video perhaps on how to match slog3 with D-Log M? Thanks!
You just take the DJI footage and bring down contrast all the way, highlight down 75% and shadows up 50% and it will be close
Then it's just WB slider
@@nVuFilms thank you man! You're killing it with these videos. I thank you for your honest feedback by showing actual footage versus just talking about it like most reviewers. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about to be able to see actual footage and is not so much the camera that matters, but the person behind it. And you are taking it out of the ball park. Thanks!
This video is amazing. My pocket 3 arrives tomorrow. I wanted to start travel and food vlogging. Was debating getting a Sony ZV1, ZV E10 or Nikon Z30, then this dropped and blew me away. Already have the Action 4 for beach/water and more action excursions and a variety of mounts. This was a no brainier pairing once I saw the image and tracking quality.
Yea man. Enjoy it!
How is it?
@@omeryonis5493 hello, it is just the next morning (8:45am) where I am and I am at work, but tracking is showing that it is loaded in the UPS truck for delivery today by 7:00pm. I will play with it tonight and over the weekend but will probably not actually vlog with it until next Friday as my wife and I are trying a new Hot Pot restaraunt for the 1st time, then a few weeks later going on a trip to St. Augustine Florida I will be vlogging with the Pocket 3, Action 4, and Hover x1 drone.
@@BullyOG how long you gonna play with it before telling us lol
@@omeryonis5493 I'm sorry, I forgot to come back to this. I'm loving it so far. I have been watching a bunch of videos and dialing in my settings. It's amazing how much light this camera can take in, even without going high ISO. I love the tracking and everything with the interface is smooth and flawless. I have zero regrets so far. I prefer normal mode to using the low light mode as while it can crank up ISO higher, it really isn't needed and to me normal looks better as far as contrast. For bright daylight/light, I put the EV at -.0.7 and keep ISO range 50-1600 because again, it takes in so much light, it can overexpose. Image quality is more than I ever imagined from a camera this size.
For my vlogs in Saigon, the smaller, the better. Walking around filming with my a7siii is just asking to get it snatched. I’m very impressed with the Pocket 3! (Might have to replace my GoPro 11)
oh yea you def need to replace the gopro!
I've had the pocket 3 for 1 day and I love it. I'm in Vietnam so this I can toss under the seat of the scooter and have with me virtually everywhere. If I see something interesting I can be up and shooting in seconds. Compared to my main setup, which is get the camera out, attach the mic receiver, attach to gimbal, calibrate gimbal and so on. Not to mention I'm not carrying that setup with me on the off chance I find somewhere that would make a good story. It's light and unintrusive, overall the pocket 3 will definitely encourage me to do more and miss less.
Du ma con cac awesome
I've probably seen about 100 comparison videos trying to be sure I want to get the DOP3. But this video, made me think that DJI should make a pro version at the $1000 price point, that is a bigger, with a larger viewfinder, better stabilization like that of their actual DSLR gimbles, that also has a lock feature so the camera can be used for action cam shots. I imagine the DOP4 will more than likely be akin to what I'm describing, but on a smaller scale, but a real PRO version would be a good option to present in the lineup for professionals.
The ending is EPIC... hope most of your viewers will stay till the end of the video. Thanks for this comparison I didn't know I needed.. lol

Pocket 3 is more discrete? less pervy in public?..... can u put the sony ZV-E1 in your pocket? You get 4 x Pocket 3's for the price of 1 Sony!?
You aren't lying
DJI POCKET 3 has elevated itself to such position that it beats DSLR/Mirrorless cameras in many key areas considering price point & versatility.
Imagine if, the next generation of the Dji pocket 3 makes improvements in focal length ( addition of 85mm, 35mm as an attachment) backed by bigger sensor with better dynamic range, then the game is over for big camera industries like Canon, Sony, Nikon etc, as the form factor alone is so awesome & practical.
An exceptional videographer too! Good to stumble on you randomly Vu!
Thanks !
The DJI Pocket 3 is a dream set up - especially for run & gun, quick and small portable. Most of all, it's unobtrusive so vlogging in public doesn't get in the way. BTW, I'm going to Vietnam next year. I think the Pocket 3 is perfect for vlogging - even capturing more - on my vacation. I don't want to take my ZV-E1 or A7C in public over there, but the Pocket 3 - hell yes!
Yea
How it was in Vietnam? Worth it with Pocket 3?
Back in 2019..i used to shoot and edit my pocket 1 and a6400 footages.. zve1 and pocket 3 looks like a great combo
Love the pocket 3. Phenomenal quality from such a tiny gadget. For the price it's unbeatable.
I absolutely love your videos..no annoying music or seizure inducing animations. We need more of this. I probably won't buy this though - I already have the osmo 6.
The heck is osmo 6
@@nVuFilms 🙂 It's a phone gimbal from DJI. They have a few models. The full name is the DJI Osmo Mobile 6. It allows you to use your phone as a camera and also does tracking, auto video editing, you can connect DJI mic, and many more features. I'd post a link, but I don't think TH-cam allows that. Thanks for the great content.
@@AWAShowme ah gotcha
Nice video comparison 👌. Not sure if you heard of the Hohem Steady MT2 camera gimbal. Its supposed to follow/track you similar to the osmo pocket 3. Works with mirrorless cameras. Phones, etc. Should look into it. Also, Keep them outro skits coming 😂
I've both sony zv e10 and pocket 3...pocket 3 hands down the best for vlogging with great portability and video quality equivalent as sony zv e10. No need to bring gimbal YES!

zve1 + pocket3 XD
DJI dropped this at a great time. Was starting vlogging and it seems perfect.
Dude you’re crushing it on the content 👏👏👏
ZV wins in obv aspects, but after shooting a buddy’s Pocket 3 yesterday, I’m convinced it’s a tremendous value for $500. For me, great addition as B or C cam for paid shoots and an absolute blast for fcking around/travel.
And the color science ALMOST as good as Canon 😆😆😆
Lol. Dude 💯
Crazy how good the ne pocket is!!😮😮
Wow that's pretty amazing for a pocket camera. I owned the pocket 2 I may need to pick the 3 up. I love the DJI drones. I just picked up the air 3 and I love it so far.
Yup
That ending sequence had me dying. Good stuff.
Your reviews are totally worth the watch just for the Vietnamese skits at the end lol 🔥🔥

Good job man, Your color grading is amazing! Keep up the good work!
Thanks!!
I can attest to the image quality of the Osmo pocket3, I combined it in a multicam setup with the FX3 and nobody could tell the difference, shooting indoors with no artificial lighting, the image quality from a "small" one-inch sensor is really impressive, and comparing it to a full-size sensor sounds crazy, but what DJI did with this little camera is just witchcraft!
It's great
I was looking at getting the Pocket 3 instead of a full size gimbal (RS3) for capturing B-roll for corporate interviews as there's often very little time. Would this be up to the job to pair with a Sony A74?
@@jarrasean I wouldn’t say this replaces a gimbal with a camera, tho it could, but it’s small size works against it when it comes to stability, I tend to get steadier shits with a bit heavier setup that doesn’t do as much bouncing, however, if you can keep it steady while walking and/or if used with a rolling tripod or something like that to keep it steady through your movements then it’s definitely a good alternative and it’s easy to pack
I think to add value to owning both, you’d want a longer lens on the sony like the 24-70mm. That way there’s no overlap
I wanted to buy the ZV-E1 and am now happy that I bought the Pocket 3 instead.
Are you rocking an ND on the OP3 here?
This video made me reconsider my upgrade entirely lol
No nd
yeah that dji looks awesome...
but that depth of field on the zv-e1 😍
Thank you so much much for such a comparison! I have bought Sony and completely unsatisfied with its stabilization(( Now thinking of return it back to get dji. Thank you so much, you help a lot🙏🏼
im like wow DJI looks REALLY good, until the footage from the sony comes on. But then when you compare the price and all the extra work it will go in to for simple tasks. DJI is a no brainer
DJI makes some great cameras. I just don't have room for another gadget. It is great for families and younger dudes like skateboarding or girls who love to make tick tok.
Make a full low-budget movie possible with almost any gear. The gimbal makes a huge difference for sure.
That end skit was a riot. Earned a sub for that!
pocket 3 is the easy choice for vlogging and quick everyday video shots, but of course there's the time and place for the big boy cameras
Nice comparison. I loved the funny bit at the end,
dynamic on a 11mm 1.8 is actually pretty great. That being said at last you filmed in Dlog and demonstrated what the camera can actually do. I have seen so many people doing comparisons in auto and it's ridiculous.
🤣🤣🤣 yes. I have been greatly disappointed on other TH-camrs videos as well. I knew the pocket would be better than what creators were showing because I have the action 4 and I knew the pocket would be at least better than that and the action 4 is great
I actually have the zv e1 and action 4 and I had assumed it could do just as you just demonstrated. It just needs to be in the right hands sir.

Yes that’s where the zv-e1 flexs 💪🏾 on everything else especially low-light in the city with all lights . They are a great combo to have
Thank you for the -2 sharpening tip. Very reminiscent of Shane Hurlbut, ASC Canon tips. 🫡
SONY ZV-E1 have better dynamic range and image. But the pocket 3 is very good to.. Stabilization and tracking is a very good pluss for pocket 3. If u are a solo shooter, and vlogger, DJI pocket is best.

For me this is going to be a very simple decision, because I have six DJI drones and this camera is going to match three of them almost 1:1. I simply cannot be arsed trying to colour match and grade my Sony a7iv with 50mm f1.2 GM footage match a DJI Mavic 3 Pro.

Great video; I really liked your settings and quality from the pocket 3. Kind of wish you had included a night test as well. Perhaps another future video.
Possibly
Nice, been thinking of adding the pocket 3 to pair with zv-e1. When I want to be more discreet. But I’m tempted to just use my iPhone.
Can you compare pocket 3 to an iPhone
Good idea
If they can make a some sort of 50mm lens for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, i´ll buy it right away, thanks for the comparison
Your backyard is a perfect backdrop. The dji pocket 3 is amazing for the price
It is indeed
Sir can dji osmo pocket 3 used for making short films
I'm about to but the pocket 3 for car rollers, I have the fx3 and do my rollers with the rs2 and fx3 and my harness. But the more than acceptable image and ability to suction mount and track a car from the comfort of the car seat is priceless. I'd be all over a pro model with a 20mm and 50mm dual lens, wwffffff!!!
LMSY hats are the real winner here. Thanks for the review bro!
No prob!
I got the zve1 because of you. Now i want that pocket 3 for a planned trip next month. So convenient.
Thank you for your great review and the sample shots which helped a lot. I'm just wondering what the maximum length of a continuous shot (a single video take) is on this camera. Does it split the shots after a certain time, and if so, does it start automatically? Are there any dropped frames?
Great video you just saved me $1700 bucks. Well done.
The differences I see between the two are the image quality and professional features. The sony xv-e1 is by far q better camera but its all about price point. You can get a the dji pocket 3 with a drone and all of the nd filters etc... that you need for under 2k. That sony set up is going to he double that after filters and all of the of crap that goes along with it. It all depends on how much that image quality helps your content or work. Ive watched vloggers who have both set ups and compared them and the sony zv-e1 is of course easier on eyes if you know how to color grade etc...
Thanks for the video. I have a tight budget, so I want to buy standard combo instead of creator combo. Will I be able to capture video smoothly? I actually don't have any idea about camera. Kindly answer me. Thanks
Everybody is jumping on the DJI Pocket 3 bandwagon. I’m going to wait it out for a while and see if it is still popular 3 months from now. I’m betting most will switch back to a bigger camera on a gimbal. I already have a ZV-1 on a Crane 2 gimbal which is excellent. You should have put the ZV-E1 on a gimbal, that would have been a better comparison.
You are missing the point. Lol. How much would that be putting zve1 cost. I was comparing two cameras as is. Also no one said this is going to replace a bigger camera. It's all addition to the entire kit
as a feature filmmaker for the last 15 years and a vlogger of about a year now, my only complaint about the Pocket 3 is the 20mm (equivalent) focal length...I want the ability to look more natural in "selfie mode" - I actually prefer the Pocket 1 frame up for the selfie mode...but DJI 3 could legitimately make every "vlog style" camera under $2k or 3k pointless to carry for most vloggers...Im gonna pull out my Canon C70 for epic b-roll anyway
Wow. Great video.
May I know which lut you used for color grading?

Same sensor as zve1. Fx3 And zve1 has same image
Obviously the nice thing about the Sony is the larger sensor that brings DoF and brings the subject more to life in my opinion. But there’s not much else.
LOL the end caught me off guard
Excellent Post as per your usual! I would love to see a firmware update to the Pocket 3 to smooth down the follow function, as any lateral movement back and forth makes for a jerky viewing experience...

I would love to see you use, and how you would use the pocket 3 for a wedding.
Great comparison I’m looking to get even both of these cameras
Good choices
I have both now. Thanks for making me feel better about my purchase! Now I’m debating between 16-35gm f2.8 or 16-35 f 4? I already have 11mm. 1.8 For my channel and possibly some video work.
My Osmo Pocket 3 is kinda putting me in a difficult position (especially with its 10-bit recording) in regards to me trying to justify using a full-frame camera for filming photo-walk videos. Do I bring just the Pocket 3 and possibly miss out on some of that full-frame shallow DoF, longer focal lengths, and image quality? Do I bring both and carry an extra tripod (added bulk)? Do I deal with the added complexity of running multiple cameras at a time when I'm used to only running a single camera?
🤷♂️
If the pocket does it for you then let it do it for you. Convenience is everything nowadays and with that quality the choice is clear.
Great. I'm going to open my DJI Pocket 3 Combo now. Just wanted to check in with you first. (: Thank you.
Thank You such an honest review..
Verry impressive Nvu, did you use an ND on the Pocket 3 outside in the garden ?
No nd

I looked more into this:
- Osmo3 is 20mm f/5.4 equiv
- iPhone 15Pro main camera is 24mm f/6.3 equiv (1.2x focal length, 1.17x aperture, so more or less same depth of field / light gathering)
- ZV-E1 with 20mm f/2.8 gives you 4x the light gathering and shallow depth of field (and flexility to use even faster lenses)
So compared to the iPhone 15Pro, the Osmo 3 gives you a wider image with physical stabilisation with more or less the same depth of field and low light performance. You can match this performance on the ZV-E1 by setting the lens to f/5.4.
Light gathering doesn't increase. Aperture "equivalent" only effects depth of field
@@nVuFilms No, it does, that's a common misconception. The light gathering per square inch doesn't increase, but you have a larger sensor, so a F2 lens on MFT gathers half as much light as an F2 lens on Full Frame, this scales to all sensor sizes. Full explanation here: th-cam.com/video/6Im4W_9blhY/w-d-xo.html

Lol
How is the Osmo pocket 3 compared to the 6400 on a gimbal?
The only downside to the Osmo is that it doesn't have a 50 mm lens that you can add. It's limited to only wide angle which really hurts creativity in filming.
Yea
honestly, I use my Pocket 3 along side iphone 15 pro max for creative shots and it is a dream duo.
Hey Vu!!
This might be a dumb question but with the mist lens filter, what’s the purpose of it? Thanks in advance for answering

My current setup is OA4 with the a6700. Also own rx 10 Mark 4, ZV-1, OA1 and Insta 360 RS with 360 lens.
A6700 is great. Only reason I didn't mention it because it's not ready out of the box as a vlog camera
@nVuFilms yeah, it's primarily a photo first camera and I know you a video shooter. The ZV-E1 image is so good. I live DJI products as well
It really just needs a mic
So I prob should have mentioned a mic is like $100 so it does closely compete a6700 vs OP3
@nVuFilms I'm gonna call it now, DJI could start making mid-range video cameras like the ZV line. But your idea of a full frame gimbal stick camera would be amazing
