I set out to find a simple plugin to show me what chord I was playing, because I felt like that would be a different but effective way of learning. Got Scaler 2 and not only did it do what I wanted (I can change a note/finger in the chord position and SEE immediately that it makes it a "minor", for instance.) But it does WAAAY more than I anticipated. I can start playing a few chords and the plugin will show me other chords that will work with those. Fantastic! Often times I "paint" my MIDI notes out, but it is fun to just play around using key binding (a single key press will play a chord). That alone is more than enough for me... but then we get into the PERFORMANCE section, and that takes it to a whole new level. I know some may consider it "cheating" but for those of us who missed out on proper music education, it's a great way to accomplish something that sounds "right", while learning a little music theory along the way.

Superb plug in. Especially useful for non-musicians [such as myself]. I just bought it on the back of your tutorials. I am so impressed with this software. I always appreciate software that has been thoughtfully crafted with attention to detail. For that Scaler 2 gets 11 out of 10. Scaler2 definitely goes to eleven :)
The MIDI FX function is really convenient. Most other DAWs require routing from Scaler's output to the VSTi's, input which means using 2 instrument tracks. With this MIDI FX option you only need 1 instrument track.
Yes but at the same time logic midi fx sucks because it don’t work with multi output tracks like with kontakt. Using multi out to save cpu is handy and midi fx only works on single track. If routing out to an instruments input was possible in logic could use scaler 2 with multi out
I love Scaler 2!!! At about 10:13 n this video David goes into a "Chord Edit" mode and takes a low note off a chord in his progression and moves it to the higher C note. No matter how many times I've watched this and tried to do it...I just can't figure out how to change a note in a selected chord. PLEASE HELP if you can.
Check out th-cam.com/video/Dw8KwFFR_iY/w-d-xo.html for how Chord Edit mode works, also if you have the latest version of scaler you will see Navigation Buttons top right - click on CHORD which will take you to chord edit mode and you can adjust individual notes of each chord.

@10:00 Perhaps burying the super interesting detailed chord edit discussion in the multi scaler update scene update feature. It's somewhat hard to read active keys off the S2 keyboard widget. Compare to Logic chord play midi device with its small dots below keys. Thanks!!

EXCELLENT VIDEO! I am really enjoying learning how to use Scaler and I am impressed with all the features. I have a couple of questions. Since I am using Ableton Live I had to adapt some of what you showed in the video and it all went well. In one instance, when you showed the Playback Performances, around the twenty minute mark, you could assign an individual performance to each chord but I could only assign one performance (like arpeggio) to the entire progression, In the left column my Scaler shows only "Group". Also, is there a back button or function, so that when I try a chord substitution and do not like it I can just go back to my original chord? Thanks.
Hi, click on the group dropdown and assign it to an individual group and now that chord can feature any changes! Check this th-cam.com/video/28hDr7NNKQ8/w-d-xo.html and join the community over at forum.scalerplugin.com
I really like the way that we can open many 'scaler windows,' but I'm wondering how much CPU power is being use for that process? At any rate, I like the option just the same!
Hi Davide, Can this quick method be duplicated in protools with the way protools works? I’m trying to think of a way to be able to do this without making so many tracks of scaler to control another kontakt instrument like the way you are doing here in logic via midi Fx but in Protools.
This plugin has been such a wonderful writing tool and it's helping me learn theory as I go. The chords I like to hear go way beyond my theory training, and it's awesome to be able to quickly put a name to a particular sound and start to make connections. Bravo! Do you think it's possible to offer the same B-block chord voicing menu in the C block, so transformations on the progression can be quickly auditioned instead of just for the currently selected scale? I know it's possible to do quick inversions with the editor, but I think the voicings are doing more than inverting the chords.
When I drag my samples into scaler NOTHING happen. It wont even let me drag and drop my melodies on the pattern roll either. It just wont do nothing PERIOD ! Any suggestions ??
Wow thata amazing translation which Scaler can do with progressions..... Looks like its more than Melodyne ....i am.too sure cos i am got these software...thanks .
great demo thank you but wait..”generate parallel harmonies” just added chromatic chords it didn’t generate parallel modes is this supposed to add non Diatonic chords?
Great info on a fantastic plugin - one suggestion though... that "felt piano' is far too subtle of a sound to be able to clearly hear what's going on for demos. It's actually kind of strange that you can customize almost everything - except - for the default sound... unless, I'm completely missing something ;-) Please add a setting for selecting your preferred "default instrument".
Hi Michael you need to learn how to route Scaler to a third party VST. Try the manual, TH-cam and online for many resources available to you or head over to scalerplugin.com where the community may help you.
Scaler is a really nice tool, very musical and the first midi tool in my opinion that the results sounds like “music”. I think Scaler has a potential to be even better, more music themes, bass lines, melodies tools and so on 🙏
Hey is that a mackie onyx 1640i back there on your desk? Quite fond of mine, don't see them around that often! Has a nice musical warmth in my opinion.
Scaler 2 | VSTi Routing in Ableton Live | Quick Tip Tutorial th-cam.com/video/Pmr3oMSGedI/w-d-xo.html Ableton Live and Logic Pro X - VIDEO (how to use Scaler to control third party VST’s in Ableton and Logic Pro X) th-cam.com/video/kNYTLNKq8ZY/w-d-xo.html
I think an improvement could be that the suggested chords could include both minor and major options. And also different key chords that can be commonly used as most songs use a combination of major and minor chords. Maybe this can be done and i don’t know how to do it but i feel its the only thing that lets scaler down on a near perfect plugin
Is the PDF manual that comes with Scaler 2 well-written? And is it covering all elements and functions in- depth, in a logical order to create a workflow, logically partitioned into chapters? I often lose myself with instructional videos, even with great ones like this one here, and I need to read and re read the same sentence a couple of times before things actually dawn on me. There is so much ground covered here with Scaler 2 as a musical composition tool that the combination of videos, manual and plugin should be regarded as one pack. I owe quite a few MIDI composition tools, some pretty difficult to work with, but this upgrade blows them all out of the water. Will probably buy soon.
Yes the PDF manual is simple and comprehensive. It covers all aspects and is more precise than the tutorial videos for learning each feature set. Try the demo for free from PIB, click on HELP and open the manual to see for yourself.
Thanks, I will certainly do that as a fist step, to check out the different parts of Scaler 2, to see how it is built, and how it can be integrated and applied in Logic X. I appreciate your reply, cheers

@@SchoolofSynthesis Thanks. Simple. I will watch your other video(s) and I will join the community.
Is there a way to route scaler 2 midi to a track with kontakt when using multi output in logic?
Will the software show scales, chord variations and voicings on a guitar fretboard?
I really like the way that we can open many 'scaler windows,' but I'm wondering how much CPU power is being use for that process? At any rate, I like the option just the same!
Scaler is not CPU intensive. You can easily open many scalers without a significant hit on any reasonably modern CPU
Hi Davide,
Can this quick method be duplicated in protools with the way protools works?
I’m trying to think of a way to be able to do this without making so many tracks of scaler to control another kontakt instrument like the way you are doing here in logic via midi Fx but in Protools.
Great video!
Thanks for feedback we will pass it on, join the community over at scalerplugin.com to share your ideas.
Question, how does one reset all the “setting” to its original state…? Thanks in advance!
Right click the S top left corner and click on 'Clear State'
When I drag my samples into scaler NOTHING happen.
Really nice. Is there a way to add additional performance patterns?
Not at this stage but customisability on the way!
Oh I really wanted to get my hands on Scalar..
great demo thank you but wait..”generate parallel harmonies” just added chromatic chords it didn’t generate parallel modes is this supposed to add non Diatonic chords?
Great info on a fantastic plugin - one suggestion though... that "felt piano' is far too subtle of a sound to be able to clearly hear what's going on for demos. It's actually kind of strange that you can customize almost everything - except - for the default sound... unless, I'm completely missing something ;-) Please add a setting for selecting your preferred "default instrument".
Hi i just purchased Scaler 2 and it doesn't have a button to use my vst's in Cubase? Can you help.
Hi Michael you need to learn how to route Scaler to a third party VST. Try the manual, TH-cam and online for many resources available to you or head over to scalerplugin.com where the community may help you.
Any update on the guitar side !! 😎
DEVs are focussing on 2.5 due later this year. Main focus - Guitar! 😉

Nice 👍
The Scaler band in ONE.
Scaler is a really nice tool, very musical and the first midi tool in my opinion that the results sounds like “music”. I think Scaler has a potential to be even better, more music themes, bass lines, melodies tools and so on 🙏
Funny you should say that. In the next two weeks time we will launch a first look video here of scaler 2.2. Music themes, bass lines, melody tools.
Hey is that a mackie onyx 1640i back there on your desk? Quite fond of mine, don't see them around that often! Has a nice musical warmth in my opinion.
Indeed, probably should be replaced to be fair but is clean and sturdy and has decent mic pre's.
Amazing
Why not routing scaler in Other track ?? Why open New scaler ?
You can change the performance (e.g. strumming or arpeggio) on every instance separately, even if all play the same cords.
@@chiefmief9616 oh yes of course..
Davide, why in Ableton we don't have the MIDI FX device? I don't know how to replicate the workflow you've just demonstrated in Logic!

Ableton doesn't support third party midi FX
