The story concerns Anne Elliot, a young Englishwoman of 27 years, whose family moves to lower their expenses and get out of debt. They rent their home to an Admiral and his wife. The wife’s brother, Navy Captain Frederick Wentworth, had been engaged to Anne in 1806, and now they meet again, both single and unattached, after no contact in more than seven years. This sets the scene for many humorous encounters as well as a second, well-considered chance at love and marriage for Anne in her second "bloom".
The novel was well-received in the early 19th century. Its greater fame came later in the century and continued into the 20th and 21st centuries. Much scholarly debate on Austen's work has since been published. Anne Elliot is noteworthy among Austen's heroines for her relative maturity. As Persuasion is Austen's last completed novel, it is accepted as her most maturely written novel, showing a refinement of literary conception indicative of a woman approaching forty years of age. Her use of free indirect discourse in narrative was in full evidence by 1816.
Persuasion has been the subject of several adaptations, including four made-for-television adaptations, theater productions, radio broadcasts, and other literary works.

Delightful! Thank you so much.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, my favorite Jane Austen novel.
I can’t help but swoon at Captain Wentworth’s confession letter 😊
"Swoon". That is such a good word. 😁👍
I think it is one of the best love letters written. 🙋♀️
Love Austen, very good adaptation, Emma is my favourite Austen novel, have seen all adaptation since 1972, 2009 version is my favourite, any chance of a radio version.
Love this! Thanks for uploading
A enjoyable listen from the BBC .
Love JA! Tysm CR 😘
I'm less than 15 minutes in, and I already like it!
Fantastic.
If there is any more Jane Austin, please post it. What more perfect entertainment for the season? Murder is a bit too dark, just now.
Lovely novel
Love this!!
Like Sherlock Holmes, there is a Jane Austen club, too.
♥️
Oh, this should be good.
Does anyone know the voice-actors for this play?
They are mentioned at the end.
Firstly thanks for this but no way does Cpt Wentworth ever ask Anne to befriend Bennick ..She does it herself out of politeness and Cpt Harvell thanks her for it...The actor of Wentworth too unemotional at certain points lolz
Anne and Wentworth talked too much in this version But, other parts are very illuminating
Radio is not a good medium for presenting this story. The actors and actresses make a valiant attempt, but the time allotted for them (an hour and 22 minutes) is just too short. Too much had to be altered or simply left out. Your time would be better spent either reading the book (best option), or watching the 1995 film version with Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds. Amanda Root as Anne Elliot was magnificent.
Sorry i dont read other peoples comments
sorry, but most of these people are not to my liking at all. am i not supposed to like them? lasted til 23:00.
You're meant to like Anne.
I find it strange that i am liking characters that I usually cringe at when they talk. Elizabeth and Sir Lucas are kinder to Anne than I have ever heard. They usually make me brace myself for shrill cruelty when they deem to engage Anne in conversation.
