You caught my attention with the intro. As a ”swede” living less than 5 miles from the Volvo factory in Gothenburg I enjoy those oldies. We have an Volvo museum with every one of the old ones. Two thumbs up!👍👍
My father was issued a white 1964 122 wagon as a company car. One night coming home from a company party at the World’s Fair (my dad and my mom ran the Swedish restaurant), he and my mom were up front and a couple of company execs were in the back when the car hit a construction beam in the road and rolled three times. Everyone walked away. He was promptly issued a new, identical model to replace it. Since the World’s Fair only ran for two years, we only had the Volvos for ‘64 and ‘65. One cool thing ws that the cars carried Port Authority license plates in addition to the NY plates which meant it could be driven onto the ramp at JFK. I have a soft spot for these Amazons (as they were known outside the US). It’s great to see yours in such good shape!
There both cool, reliable, and great sounding. All depends on what you want. A b5234t with ported intake, turbo inlet with open filter, and 3"" ss turboback still sounds pretty amazing.. windows up I hear intake and turbo over exhaust.
@@ogfromutube9649 You are right, I do love the sound of the intake, and the turbo. But there is nothing better than the 5 cylinder rumble. I’ll have to experiment with it. All good fun. My daughter drives, a stock turbo 940. The turbo on it, sounds so cute. It’s fun too.
@@ogfromutube9649 I drive a b5234t, non ported and stock turbo as far as I know. I do have a K&N filter in the stock airbox, DO88 charge piping and a stainless turbo back (with sports cat and mufflers/reso). It was only when I got the downpipe (cat back already in place) that the exhaust started to be more balanced against the intake sound. I hope to get a DO88 intake pipe and intercooler soon, might make a bit more intake sound then :)
You got this nice old Volvo Amazon kombi and you do like this with it I cannot believe it. Volvo and SAAB mechanic used to give the other guys a hard time, mostly for fun though. Me being a former SAAB mechanic I in reality love theese old Volvos so this is to me what the heck did he do.
What a cool volvo! I mean you just nailed it all the way through the whole thing! 👌 And kudos to you for that little die-cast predator on the shelf in the background 👍
That's one nice Volvo! I have a -84 242 with B230 16V Turbo but the 122 stationwagon is one of the coolest Volvo's for sure. Really love those wheels!!!
Kudos to you for not only saving a beautiful wagon, but also enhance the raw material in a tasteful way. you will have many fine miles ahead of you sitting behind that rather large steering wheel of the "Amazon kombi" Cheers
Around 1999, I built a 740 wagon with a 93 Mustang 5.0 and 5 speed. I love this one, I think it's perfect as it sits, I would turbo it before lowering it any more, but that's me. I'm also in NC, will keep an eye on you!
that's a fun long roof man, I've always been a fan of Volvos, buddy of mine had a 242 back in the day, I can appreciate that it's not pretty, it's the perfect driver.
Love what you have done on this rarest of the 122 series. My first car was a 1964 PV544, which I purchased for something ridiculous like $450.00 back in 1969. I remember that there was a rare 544 wagon with rear barn doors. There was only one I saw back then in San Francisco, where I live. If you ever consider selling it, let know.
Very, very cool and the sound is awesome. Funny when you say “it doesn’t have a ton of power” then you proceed to tear through the gears. Some of us don’t live with high horsepower rigs so your acceleration demo seems pretty damn impressive! My ideal power to weight would be 200hp/ton so you’re not that far off. Thanks for the vid!
In my life, there have been two Audi Coupes occupying my driveway. Although nothing to do with Volvo, the sound of a 5 cylinder at full chat warbling is intoxicating. That's one cool Volvo.
5 cyl whit ITB's.. something i didnt know i needed in my life, it sounds AWSOME! first and possibly the only time i wont miss the turbo sound from a 5 cyl. great build!
So glad I found your channel! I'm doing this swap with the turbo whiteblock, into my Amazon. Currently pulling it out of the v70r, and I have so many questions. 🤣
I've seen a couple of good builds based on all the versions of the Amazon models. This one is now one of my favorites. Old cars should be driven and not stored away. The auto purists out there can cry how much they want, this is how we give the cars a second chance of love.
Scrapped one of those wagons about 20 years ago for parts to a cupè. There were almost no floor in it, the driver seat went thru the floor when I sat in it in the garage 😂. But it was free and had some parts that I needed to my 1964.
nice video ,i see your in the V category, Volvo and Volkswagen ,nice work on the 122 wagon tough to find any kind of wagon,I been owning/driving these over 40 yrs and over a million miles over 4 to 5- 240's and love them and there is nothing better in winter for heat, and have had heated seats since 1981 driver seat was standard passenger seat was optional, girls like it on the bunns, LOL, nice work on the car, when you go to do the rest of the drop build and cut up the rear floor ,if can retro fit the factory hydraulic engine mounts , you'll find as much as 15-20% NVH reduction in the cabin, it is a huge difference, you can buy a one sided adhesive backed insulation for the underside of the hood , cut to shape and its peel and stick, that alone cuts your NVH another 6.5 decibels , which is really noticeable , one trick i learned from a car builder is spraying under coating inside your doors, just a thin coat and it reduces the natural resonance transmitted from the road through the chassis, i did this on my 89 240 DL and it works pretty good, sweet ride, you can also get cams for that engine that'll give another10-15 bhp, 👍
Watching from the State of Rhode Island--never owned a Vovlo-but sweet mod for sure-excellent execution-if Vovlo had any sense-they would make these just like this-NOW-NEW-they would sell faster than they could make them-continued success! 🙂

The 240 is solid but a 4dr sedan wasn't my first choice. It does look pretty cool with black n silver two tone and BBS SR wheels on it, also had some Vette salad shooter 16x9.5 on it. Yeah originally it was built in a mad rush to bomb cross country. The body work at that time was just replacing quarter panels. Hopefully in the near future I can address the rear floors, I have the panels ready to go in.

@@longautomotive wheel specs?
Nice freaking motor, but damn that needs some serious body work. Would be awesome after cleaning up the rust, paint and interior.
Yeah originally it was built in a mad rush to bomb cross country. The body work at that time was just replacing quarter panels. Hopefully in the near future I can address the rear floors, I have the panels ready to go in.
@@longautomotive I love it. The patina says, I have history, a story to tell.
