Unfortunately in England too many town centres look exactly alike. Poor planning; awful destruction of existing architecture that set towns apart, all to facilitate lower ground level ‘units’ that all end up housing the same brands wherever you go

Another great video James. If Helen wants a boat ride, I know I keep suggesting it (🤣🤣🤣) but, get to Knaresborough. Some lovely rowing boats on the River Nidd and some lovely pubs to choose from. Used to be white lightening in my day not frosty jacks, I remember 20/20 too lol
Shocking what has become of our town centres. Charity shops, pound lands and B&M's. I am 51 and miss the old days when we had quality shops everywhere. Dirty curry houses and chicken shops are everywhere now. Don't get me wrong, I love a curry, but it's gone way too far now.
I've promised not to get political an TH-cam and had to edit out one of my 'rants' because I hate to see what Rotherham has become, I have loads of family there and lived there growing up.

Just come across you two by accident and i'm so glad I did. I lived in "Rovrum" for 20 years until I moved to Kent in 2019 and I totaly agree with all you've said .It was such a nice vibrant friendly town and yes some of the buildings are very interesting if you can take a bit of time to look, the Minster is great for a smallish town but for various reasons like most northern towns the decline has been quite steep in the last 10 years . I used to live in the appartments across the road from the big smoke reasturant for a few years and I agree with Helen the "County" is not a bad pub really ! I miss yorkshire sometimes and videos like this make me happy and sad at the same time . Great video just hope you both carry on living your best life you seem to have got it just right

I live by myself in my flat. But I'm alright physically.
I remember seeing one of your vlogs where you were telling us you suffer a bitr with anxiety, also, i believe you suffered with depression in the past.

I like that you're keepin it real. Life is not perfect and you're going to have bumps in the road along the way. I enjoy seeing where you grew up even if it's not the same as it was, you still have the good memories of days gone by. Just spending time with your Helen should be a reward in itself, it doesn't always have to be a fancy "romantic" dinner. Hope you had a wonderful Father's Day with the kids. One of the most realistic (doable - I have thought of it, well day dreamed) van conversions I've see on the Tube. I went through a phase of following a few van-life types they were a bit implausible, perfect carpentry all mod-cons - blah blah

Didn't see a cooker I think I seen it before little one burner and gas bottle. Those gas bottles don't last long . I just bought a dual one which connects big bottle on small burner will last 3 months at 35 pound instead of a pound a day for small ones .not everyone wants to lug a big bottle around I supose
Yes I just use a small stove. It's rubbish but does the job I guess. We will have a proper one in the new van
It's a bit sad in all of the local towns now I feel some blame the malls like Meadowhall but I think it's a change in the way we all shop and even drink our beer ,mostly from our own cumfy chair.Last time I was in Rotherham we went to see Timmy Mallet open some shop or other in about 1981 .we couldn't really see him the crowd was so big .Love Akbars great grub .another successful vid .Cheers you 2

Kitchens seem to close very early these days... I feel your pain James. In the 80's I used to be able to stay in the pub till 11:30 then go for a curry, normally rolling out of there after 1am, ah those were the days
Me too, we always used to do that!
I know you both like to try different beers so I would advise you try the Terminus in Conisbrough, Steve & Denise run a fantastic little micro bar with guest ales. You can also get a nice curry at the Indus and Naz will look after you, its a fantastic Indian Restaurant, you may be advised to book as its very popular or failing that I know you like Sea Fish for your fish and chips :)

Great stuff James, I always look forward to your video's, maybe because your down to earth and funny, you and Helen make TH-cam videos that far more engaging , fun and honest than most of TH-cam creator's . I subscribe to a lot of channels but yours is by far the best. I used to have the same van and sleep in it when I went on trips so I know how it feels to get up in the morning and get out for a stretch.
I have been watching you from the start, but have to say it looks different now and was slowly shown, which was nice to take everything in properly. Nice build. Clean and useful for needs. Solo female part-time car camper 🇬🇧.

That was a trip down memory lane, also spent a lot of time in Rotherham, so sad to see the town like that. Can't believe you braved 'the county'! Can remember that little shop which was your grandma's, and used to be Merrill's tea room just across the way, looked like it had all been knocked down from your vlog footage. Can you remember reveloution and the zone night clubs, always used to go there, and also feeofees (probably spelling it wrong!) like you say pretending to be 18😂

So far it's been ok, The van is well insulated and I have a fan but haven't had to use it much

I heard a lot of places were shortening the hours they served food and the number of days because of the energy prices. 9pm last orders on a Friday night is ridiculous!

I hate pubs with a clique they really do bring an area down.
I understand pubs have locals but when they create an unwelcome atmosphere it's just wrong and those people need to grow up.

Ive lived in Rotherham all my life Back in the 70,s 80,s it was a booming Town now its a run down dump.
Great van! I guess the only question, where do you shower? I guess you just have to join a local gym or maybe a chain that has multiple gyms?
Yep I'm a member of JD gyms which is open 24hrs a day
My own town is a dump now

All town centres are similar now, full of derelict or empty shops, plaster falling off walls and only bargain shops and charity shops with a few questionable boozers thrown in. Even the customary town centre pigeons have vacated! It’s a sad state of affairs. I’m from a place where they’re spending millions on a metro extension to towns with nothing there, so who in their right mind is going to use it?! Massive white elephant potential… Instead of investing that money in the re-generation of the local towns first. I swear this country is run arse about face! Anyways, hope you had an epic Father’s Day mate! Sure had the weather for it! 👍🏻🤙🏻

Good question, Im loving it so far. I will do another little video over the next couple of days. Off the top of my head, the window to the cab is brilliant as I could get through it if ever I needed a quick getaway but I love that I can just throw bags of stuff into the cab and out of the way. The bed is so easy and incredibly comfy. Little pop up tables are brilliant. They've put so much thought into it.

Its quite a complex subject, you need to put precautions in place to prove that you have no intention of driving. Im going to make a video about it, but want to double check the legal side before I do

My uncle blew the safe in woolworths in rotherham in the 60s he got sent down for 4 years.just realised how little Helen is sitting in the child's seat lol

The councils just rip the towns apart these days,no thought for architectural brilliance of its day,quirky nooks that was are now replaced with pre build walls screwed together to form another McDonald's or alike...Stafford has next to nothing left now,as the so called high Street,well has nothing. Our shopping mall has 3 shops left! 😢..talk about ghost town.
It is depressing when we remember it how it used to be,full of life and happy times had as kids in various shops.. very sad indeed.
Any news on another van? You should book a night at a glamping ground with Helen, £40a night and alot of them have pools and outdoor facilities to cook..get on wowcher James,come on 😂😂😂😂.

Another good vlog guys, have you been in the old horns at High Bradfield Sheffield it’s lovely food in there and it’s not expensive and the scenery is outstanding,also you can walk around Damflask a bit lower down in Low Bradfield. My friends live opposite the Dam up from the Plough pub about half a mile.

@@bythecurb . It’s only about 4 miles from Hillsborough, and there is plenty of parking around the dam if you want to park up for the night. Be nice to do a vlog walking round the dam it’s about a 3 1/2 mile walk around the dam,plus you could park up for the night. You won’t be disappointed.

@@bythecurb Maybe a bit pricy to get in, but you could take a picnic. Big place, not like a normal zoo. The animals have plenty of room to roam about, not caged.
