    kat! the long side panels of the terrestrial enclosure are the wrong way around, that's why the lid is hard to close

      Literally me!! I bought 2 today and while I was assembling the first one, a rubber band sprung up and I swear it took a good 10 seconds or so to fall into my lap lmao

    Seeing a self assemble enclosure I immediately thought it will just leak water everywhere, but I see they solved that problem.
    Although the price is a bit...over the top for what you get, if I ever manage to mass produce my glass enclosures I will price them around that price range xD

    I just got one of those last week; the large terrestrial one. I like it. I used mine to rehouse my female M. balfouri female, and she is getting settled in, several hours after my chasing her around my bedroom for over an hour. The large is bigger than I needed, but I didn’t know exactly what I was going to put in it at first. Kudos to Zilla for making these. I would like to see them in a large size for terrestrials with frontal access and cross ventilation. I think this is just a taste of what may be to come for enclosures in the invert hobby. These would totally beat having to replace the screen lids with plexiglass on an ExoTerra or ZooMed and have to make do with the strip of ventilation under the door/s. I agree that the container store and hobby lobby have more of a selection of storage and suitable alternatives. When it comes to the resources for DIY such as vents, hinges and hasps, it can be a pain to order stuff and wait.

  • @weareorigin
    @weareorigin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The rubber bands break is 'normal' when you disassemble the container to clean them. My ant farm uses similar rubber bands; any moisture will weaken them into breaking when touched.

    6:05 100% agree with a lower venting system. I have one of these enclosures and stopped using it because my a.avicularia will sit right on the vent with its fangs spread across the vent. So I always questioned if it was getting proper air flow. I've been tempted to drill some air holes near the bottom but dont know how weak the plastic will become if I do. Also dont want unwanted bugs entering or feeders leaving. All in all I hope people keep recreating these enclosures and learning how to make better ones.

    Jamie’s Tarantulas does similarly sized Tarantula enclosures for around $15 instead of $25. If the Zilla ones came with a little bit of substrate, some cork bark and a water dish they might be worth it, but $25 to me is a bit steep.

    For some reason companies dont make protective films with tabs. So if u have trouble removing a layer of film. Top tip from a guy that does it for a living. Get a piece of sticky tape, put half on a corner of the film and then pull. Tape sticks to film and boom. Easy.

    Great vid, Kat! I have to check these out eventually. I purchased some of the modular enclosures from eBay a couple years ago, and I wasn't a fan (aesthetically, I don't like the little puzzle piece tabs!). I do like the litter dam base...that's a cool feature. The cross ventilation is also a welcomed touch. Very throughout review...thanks! Edited because I was typing while watching the video, and I didn't get to the price part...sorry!

  • @warriorexotics2395
    @warriorexotics2395 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m torn at this point I don’t think they’re worth the price point but at the same time I feel like it’s something we need to support for us to get more products. If these don’t sell then they will say we listened and they didn’t want it. It’s a really tough spot to be in. I really like the build it parts. As keepers maybe we should contact Zilla and tell them our concerns and what they could improve in the future. These do definitely have a place in the hobby though. I think if you want something that is uniform and you’re not a very diy person or just don’t like the look of diy enclosures this is definitely for you. I actually am thinking of grabbing a few just so that all my setups are uniform.

    I picked up the large terrestrial enclosure and I like it quite a bit. I don't think it would work as well for a fossorial species, to shallow. It is better looking then a critter keeper and more appropriate than an exo Terra.

    One of my jumping spiders escaped it's zilla micro habitat last night and had to be moved back into its dram vial. Like i caught her escape using the video feature in the camera on my phone. Which spider enclosures can ship quickly with the least escape holes and the most space. She's tiny, but my phidippus regius are a heck of a lot less inquisitive. I don't know her species. She fell on me from the corner of the microwave.

    Just something I was noticing, but based on how the door is supposed to latch, I feel the sides of the terrestrial one were put on the opposite side they should have been due to the struggle it seemed you had latching it properly compared to the arboreal enclosure. The closed notches should be on the end that has the permanent attached side while the side with the open notch should be on the end with the lock so that the door slides into it when you're closing.

    I got the large arboreal for an avic and I think it's the best deal compared to acrylic boxes that size you could modify (that I've found). If the large terrestrial was deeper I'd be on board for it....at the moment I'm just looking at it in my shopping cart, then looking at a faunarium that's $10 and the depth I want..... should probably just get both and another tarantula.

    Looking for a jumping spider enclosure. The openings you pointed out are worrisome. Would you put a jumper in here? The tarantula cribs ones are all sold out. I do not feel like doing a DIY one. Can you recommend a suitable jumping spider enclosure that can be purchased for a decent price? Thanks for the vids!

    I guess since I don't have a drill the cost to buy one or just buy that would be almost the same. Thank you for sharing!!

    Hey Kat, would a aboreal size large be appropriate for a full grown C. Versicolor? Dimensions are 8”x6” x14”

    7:08 and 8:21 That moss looks so nice and green it would be really nice if it stayed that way and didn't dry out
