Absolutely. He knows he's the only game in town. He knows how much he spent on the bass...and he likes making people sweat a little, just 'cause he can. You can hear it in his voice. He probably spends a lot of time blowing dust off his inventory.

    • @ChrisEck13
      @ChrisEck13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@MagicalWingLT The shop would get more business if this guy sold it to someone who was honest and cared about the local music scene. You don't have to take every offer but not responding to customers and trying to use the MSRP as the selling price and then acting like you're giving a deal at the normal selling price that you'll find every where is common misleading practice for some of the smaller stores like this. Maybe if he treated customers better they would keep shopping there and he would be able to become a Fender or Gibson dealer, responding to online customers helps as well.

They are great and relatively inexpensive for what you get. I would put them side by side with the old Washburn basses in the same price range. It's a great bass guitar for starters too, it's affordable even if you are unsure if you child is going to abandon the instrument, but if they don't they can keep using it for years to come, as it is a quality product.

The only differences between the 300E and 400E are the body woods, the colour and the cost. The tap switch is humbuckers/single coil/single with more bass.

Great episode and really good of you to go to the trouble of sorting this out. I often wonder why so many people in retail are a bit lacking in social skills, but TBH I used to own a few shops and it put me off dealing with the public for life, so maybe it's not that big a surprise. It's nice to talk to knowledgeable people about stuff you're both interested in, but by the time you answer the same dumb question for the 500th time the milk of human kindness has well and truly curdled. Never turn a hobby into a (customer-facing) business. Think of the deals you've had go wrong in your business and how you felt. Now standardise that experience at around one a day.

Mine was made in Korea these new ones are made in China and I really haven't played the new ones but I expect them to be just as good maybe better I see they redesigned the battery control box as mine had none and you have to remove the entire back plate to replace the battery. I also see they redesigned the input jack to be more like that of a Stratocaster rather than an end Barrel Jack it goes bad all the time. However the growl and the play ability of the Ibanez Sr I find it better than my $3,000 precision bass. You rock man if I ever decide to get a new Sr series Ibanez I'll come to you hahaha rock on mr. Ibanez is a real bang for the buck bass and guitar manufacturer, no doubt. I have had a bunch of both their guitars and basses, great stuff for the low dough, ever since the 1990s. I have an Ibanez AM93 in the vintage yellow quilted top, that I don't play nearly enough. Forget the questionable Epiphone ES-339, get an AM93, much better small body ES guitar for the money, although it doesn't have the coil splitting. The tone, looks and playability are so good, you won't care.

Nato is a sub species of mahogany, afaik. It has quite similar grain structure, is colored like maple and weighs like balsa. Due to these properties, it's what Epiphone used for their Korina Explorer and V series guitars, even though they said Korina in the specs. It was just Nato, painted in trans yellow.

I'm not sure about the current models, but the previous SDGR models had issues with the bridges breaking. I worked as a repair tech for a while and the previous models came in all the time with broken bridges. The alloy they used was a brittle composite, airy - almost like a cinderblock. The saddles and edge of the bridge would just snap. No bending, just a solid break like a section of a Hershey Bar. Turned me off from ever buying one.

Cool video. I have an Ibanez SR300E bass and I use it on all my videos and music demos. Its my only bass and I find it extremely versatile and sounds awesome recorded direct in a mix.

Got an iron label that's a couple years old. Made of seven exotic woods. Plays awsome. Only thing I wish it had a floyd rose or an upper end trem. Got it for $400 which is great since they retail a bit higher. No it's not for sale just relaying my experience with Ibanez.

Ibanez truly makes excellent bass guitars... even their entry level package basses are pretty darned good.

reminds me of a shop we used to have here. The guy was authorized to get just about anything. Most of what was in his store was jay turser guitars and things of the like. I asked him why he didn't carry more (actually ordered a heritage golden eagle through him while i was there) and he said "most of my customers are moms and kids. I make money if the kids take lessons, and mom's happy if the guitar doesn't cost too much". He'd usually have one or two martin guitars, used or new, as he was an AD, but that was about it.
The guy makes just a couple of bucks on that guitar, even at 391 with tax, and hope that he does better on other guitars, because floor space for a year for probably $30-$40 of profit is *rough*.

Nyatoh is the best. I played a Zebrawood top RG Exotic with a nyatoh body, that thing probably weighed 6.5 or 7 pounds. I loved it

I got an Ibanez SR505e not too long ago and it's actually a pretty good bass for the money. The one I have is a higher end but it plays very well and sounds pretty good.

Les Claypool has a trem on one of his basses.

    • @Aarlog

I believe there was a model by Peavey that you could get with a Kahler bass trem, and you can also buy the bass Kahler yourself if you wanna retrofit your existing bass with a trem bridge. Hipshot also make their own bass trem that installs like a regular Strat trem, but requires far more body routing than the Kahler.

*My theory of the funky woods used nowadays is that they always been used in asian made instruments, but they used to just call it rosewood and mahogany before the CITES updates a couple years back. I know this was the case back in the day with Japanese made instruments. The wood still looks and has similar tonal properties so it's really just marketing.*
