    I've always wanted to be able to go to the grocery store and get what I needed without having to worry about spending too much. I don't think it is going to happen since I'm 71! Loved this video.

    Homemade dehydrated banana chips, yum. I don't like the brittle texture of store-bought ones. I think they might fry them in oil first? Homemade is better. That's great your kids are into dehydrating.

    • @jasonandjulie
      @jasonandjulie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the nice thing about the dehydrator is that you can stop it at any time. So you can take your banana chips out softer if you like them that way. We’ve been having a lot of fun making things!

    OMG, i found the most delicious sourdough recipe that is perfect for sammiches. Multiple names, it's called sourdough cloud bread, or sourdough milk bread or shokupan. It's so easy to make too.
    We just did a pantry refreshing haul at Aldi's. About the only store we need to shop at now. Our garden gave us so many vegetables this year and we still have quite a bit of meat in the freezer. Hunting season now so we're filling it up with venison now. 😁
    Hahahaha, i tend to grocery shop when I'm hungry too. So bad. 😂🤣😂🤣

    I get avacado oil in 1 gallon jugs on Amazon and just refill my glass bottle in the pantry with it. I do the same thing with honey. 1 gallon jugs from a local bee keeper and refill my little squeeze bottles. I tried, and don't advise a 5 gallon bucket of honey from Azure. Even with a pour spout lid, 60 lbs of honey is too heavy to slowly pour through funnels. Maybe I could do it if I separated the 5 gallons between 2 buckets to begin with. I love bulk buying and having food storage on hand.

    • @jasonandjulie
      @jasonandjulie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t even know Azure sold 5 gallon buckets of honey! Wow! I really need to go through their site again.
      Last year we had bought 5 gallon buckets of honey from a local guy. They had a spout drilled in at the bottom of the bucket so all you had to do was lift a little cover and the honey would pour out that way. It worked really well, although by the time we got to the second half of the bucket the honey was starting to crystallize and wouldn’t go through the spout. So we ended up having to scrape it out with a spoon! 😆 It was still delicious!

    Love how you include the children when you dehydrate foods. It’s probably controlled, fun chaos.
    There are so many great ways to meal plan that take into account different styles of thinking 😂. When I meal planned, a popular week was chili week. Usually 3 nights that week.
    Main chili night with veg (corn) & cornbread
    Chili & Macaroni with veg (salad)
    Chili on hotdogs with buns & chips or Chili with corn chips and cheese, you pick night
    Great during a busy week.

      @@minnamae25 haha, so true. However, the more you eat beans, the more your system gets acclimated and less gas is produced. By the time day 3 rolled around, not many beans left, if any. If you soak the beans 12hrs, and are sure they are well cooked, that removes most of the gas causing phytochemicals. We ate a lot of beans - bean dip, chili, hummus, bean soup, etc.

    I actually miss the days when I would shop for my big family.
    I used an organizational system in my pantry shopped 1 time per month as well. I went Sam's Club and our local butcher for most everything. Our local butcher has really good deals on meat and other items at wholesale price.
    I couponed when i had all my kiddos at home. I saved a lot of $ .
    I miss all mine being home but i honestly don't know how some are able to afford a big family in these days. Prices are crazy!!

    Do you save more at Costco vs Aldi outside of paper products? I’ve never seen savings (and we live an hour away from the closest Costco) when I compare. A friend grabs a case of PTs and TP from Sam’s for me once in a while and it’s the same price as Walmart per roll. And then the membership fee too. Not arguing just talking shop 😁

    • @jasonandjulie
      @jasonandjulie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve actually pondered that thought too. But a lot of it for me is convenience. Aldi’s products are just so small that I have to buy a ton a little packages to feed the family, where one bag of something from Costco lasts us several meals. Thankfully I’ve only had to pay the membership fee once… when we signed up we did the executive level which means you get cash back at the end of the year. We buy enough that it’s always paid for the next year‘s membership plus some.
      The best deals for me are found at restaurant depot, but it’s an hour away and although the products are cheap they don’t have all the things I need so I rarely make the trip over there.
