I’ve lived 61 years. Had many difficult and beyond sad experiences. Refuse to relive them all every day. I treasure many memories; look to a better future always.
"But do not ask the price I pay, I must live with my quiet rage. Tame the ghosts in my head, that run wild and wish me dead. Should you shake my ash to the wind, Lord forget all of my sins. Let me die where I lie, 'neath the curse of my lover's eyes." This part speaks to me
My cousin who I was close with, just passed away from injuries she sustained in a horrible motorcycle accident. She and her new husband were on their way home from their honeymoon. She was in a coma for a week, then just slipped away from us. Her husband is paralyzed. He is trying to heal. They were not wearing helmets and going to fast, he lost control. I miss her. She was an amazing person.
I'll drink to that. Funny thing is. This is the comment on my feed first. Who else searches for this unless we're existing with good music and a story song. Plus it's these m'fers. Which. As we all know.... are amazing. Hope today's better dude. One day at a time. It's never to late in the day to start the day over. Take off your socks. Brush your teeth. Wash your hands. Put on deodorant and boom. Days started over... sometimes I change my shirt too. We shall exist and all carry the curse of feeling to much.
they got enough recognition,..do u say it hecause of their music,,.see lets b clear, the music they make is very simple, nice music, but it s not art sorry,,,however this is the song of my lover ...so i like it,,,but this is not good music my friends..,just lots of feelings...kind of suicidal...
The beauty of Mumford & Sons is their songs are open to interpretation. What this song means to me might be completely opposite of what it means to you, or anyone else. I'm sure they had their reasons for making this song, no one makes a 5:14 long song for no reason, but those reasons are for them to know and us to find within ourselves. Hope this helped a little bit.
This song means something else to me, it relates to me having to watch my dad pass away from cancer...in so many different ways. 'Beneath the curse of my lovers eyes' 'Your strength just makes me feel less strong' 'Ill walk slow, take my hand ...help me on my way..'
I remember the morning I got the call my grandpa had passed away. It was devastating. My grandma had finally just been reunited with him and this was the first song that came on when I went to go see him and I felt it spoke to them and their relationship and once he was with her he was ready to go.
Love was kind for a time But now just aches and it makes me blind This mirror holds my eyes too bright But I can't see the others other in my life We too young and heads too strong To bear the weight of these lovers eyes I feel numb beneath your tongue Beneath the curse of these lovers eyes But do not ask the price I pay I must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghosts in my head That run wild and wish me dead Should you shake my ash to the wind Lord forget all of my sins And let me die where I lie Beneath the curse of these lovers eyes There is no drink or drug I've tried To rid the curse of these lover's eyes I feel numb beneath her tongue Her strength just makes me feel less strong But do not ask the price I pay I must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghosts in my head That run wild and wish me dead Should you shake my ash to the wind Lord forget all of my sins And let me die where I lie Beneath the curse of my lovers eyes I walk slow I walk slow Take my hand help me on my way, ha
I think this song is about being under the curse of sin and hating it. A lot of people-Christians usually- over-interpret Mumford songs because they try to fit too much into them, like the whole gospel. Mumford and Sons rarely try to do that much with a song although they often offer hope at the end. This song is very thematically similar to Hopeless Wanderer. Lots of inspiration from Steinbeck in Mumford and Sons as well. The whole notion of being "east of eden," our separation from our maker (who M&S tell us in other songs that we were made to meet) because of our rebellion after the fall.
Constance Smith I was actually listening to the lyrics in I will wait and decided to listen to their other songs which I have never done before. I ended up being really confused lol none of the songs I listened to were bluegrassy either like I will wait
I feel the smiley face is so inappropriate. I cry whenever I listen to this song. Such a wonderful encompassment of such deep melancholy. Positively beautiful.
All of their songs have such profound and in-depth meaning. It reminds me of when we analyzed a song in class to find all of its poetic devices and "hidden meaning." You really need to listen carefully to catch the songs "true beauty."
Honestly, when Mumford and Sons new album comes out, I will be more than pleased with just studio recordings of their many wonderful live songs. Hell I would buy just their live songs if they put them all on a cd.
Tears have never entered my eyes by reading poetry that wasn't backed by music... until my reading of that comment. lol. You're very gifted, I hope you do something with your writing.
I'm not religious, but I can still appreciate their message, and I really respect and agree with many of your views. End of the day, we are all living on the same planet and we are at least all bonded by that. And we all do a little dance to a bit of M&sons
Here is why I love this: 1. You can more clearly hear hamonization, Marcus has such a majestically soaring voice, which quite often drowns the other guys. 2. I enjoy a good spin around my living room with my loved one ( or my cat). 3. Love the slow down at 2.53 - walk slow, sing slow 😊 4. Love the solo thump, thump starting at 3.04. Which instrument? Bass? 5. Just realizing that "shake my ash to the wind" is not " shake my arse to the wind as I thought 😂.
this song basically describes the relationship between me and my friend who ive known for 10 years, and just went through a bad break up. this song really hits home for me and i love that about mumford and sons, absolutely love the song love the band. hands down my favourite
What a great music from Mumford & Son. Love every single thing in the BABEL record as it is such an amazing masterpiece in music. Hope M& S could win a lot of Grammy Award 2013
I just discovered this band and their music is amazing! I really lost my breath when he says 'tame the ghosts in my head' I have wayyyyy too many ghosts in my head. That was the actually words I used to describe it. whoa mind=blown.
I found the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. We talked about having children, moving in together everything. I was completely in love. Now that we're over the Chorus of this song is all I feel. Beautiful song.
Nice alliteration. By the way, you're the best troll, ever. You comment on just about every Mumford & Sons video with quite witty comments. Kudos, sir, kudos indeed.
There music has an ethereal, almost sublime aspect to it. I've been hearing their music in my dreams! I've never heard music like this in my sleep. It's so beautiful and intense I don't know how else to explain it =')
Then I remember flying Softly soring, sweeping swiftly like a sparrow escaping slowly through small thin slits in the scenery. And I remember it felt like a hundred new feelings, catching me all at once, as I struggled to brake free to look out over the reaches of the far horizon. And I screamed who were the ones who built this! And received no reply but the echo of creation like a ripple in the either.
When I found them...I found true LOVE of music and ART, friendship, everything that bands are SUPPOSED to be BE! Mumford and Sons I Hail You 🙇😙 I found Band MUSIC AGAIN! HOOYAH! I found Zepplin, CCR, Heart, FN Metallica! Bon Jovi, GnR, Slipknot, etc, etc.. everyone who just looks like are having FUN playing together! Me will love them long, long time! Their videos..AFNMazing! All around band rockin!
As I read down the comments, everyone's saying that the bit at the end says 'I heart most things, except meat in a can.' That makes a lot more sense, considering that up till now I thought he was saying 'I heart most things, except milking a cat.' Anyway, stunning song!!
Since I First Heard This Song, I Ask Why Is It only Songs That I Can compare To But the World is So Cold.... I Love People and Their Drive to Do What I Simply Just Cannot, To Throw it All Away For a Moment With Millions to Come...
@roflcopter5497 haha same here! I can't tell you how many of my friends have come up to me thanking me for getting them into the band. Their music is so beautiful and brilliant I can't help but point out their references to Shakespeare, Chesterton, Plato, and Steinbeck. It's so good it has to be shared. Keep preaching, my friend! ;)
@MissManiac100 ........Im totally with you on this one . i love music.lovvee it.. but i could never pin point my favorite band in my 29 years on earth . But i heard mns for the first time about 8 months ago. now i find myself listening for literally hours each day.they move me in such a great way .its like theyre speaking directly to me . i now have a favorite band by a long shot. i feel like im their biggest fan haha.. i know im not but i think you know what i mean . GO MUMFORD AND SONS !!!!!!
the lyrics is fine. However, u may want to remove the " =) " emoticons that appear during those "lyric-less" parts. Cuz' they dont go well with the mood of the song
I’ve lived 61 years. Had many difficult and beyond sad experiences. Refuse to relive them all every day. I treasure many memories; look to a better future always.
it breaks my heart and makes me smile at the same time. all Mumford And Sons songs give me that feeling. it's indescribable
"But do not ask the price I pay, I must live with my quiet rage. Tame the ghosts in my head, that run wild and wish me dead. Should you shake my ash to the wind, Lord forget all of my sins. Let me die where I lie, 'neath the curse of my lover's eyes." This part speaks to me
My favorite part! One of my favorite lines from any of their songs, actually.
Julie, me too. x
The greatest lines ever inked onto paper.
Yep me too lovely poetry.
Hauntingly beautiful 💜
Anyone struggling with addiction, mental illness, or if you've lost anyone. You are not alone.

We shall exist and all carry the curse of feeling to much.
They honestly deserve more recognition. This is such an amazing song and band.
+Amanda H. They have won a couple Grammys.
+GuruJudge21 not enough...
they got enough recognition,..do u say it hecause of their music,,.see lets b clear, the music they make is very simple, nice music, but it s not art sorry,,,however this is the song of my lover ...so i like it,,,but this is not good music my friends..,just lots of feelings...kind of suicidal...
Joseph, their music is not art? You are joking?
I lost someone dear to me yesterday, and these guys sure do help. God love Mumford and Sons.
This song. I continually forget it and rediscover it when I need it in difficult times. Just a great song
I completely agree with you. I used to say that in poetry class and they left me out of the door.
yes indeed
Thanks for sharing. Most profound love song I have heard in 60 years.
This song means something else to me, it relates to me having to watch my dad pass away from cancer...in so many different ways.
'Beneath the curse of my lovers eyes'
'Your strength just makes me feel less strong'
'Ill walk slow, take my hand ...help me on my way..'
"tame the ghost in my head, that run wild and wish me dead"
Everything about this song grips on my soul.
This song really gets you thinking. That's how you know this is great music because most songs nowadays don't make you think like this does
I remember the morning I got the call my grandpa had passed away. It was devastating. My grandma had finally just been reunited with him and this was the first song that came on when I went to go see him and I felt it spoke to them and their relationship and once he was with her he was ready to go.
I feel like their music makes me want to be a better person. No other band has ever made me feel that way.
Hello, so after nine years what do you think about the song ?
'Selflessness' is a gift of grace.
Mumford and Sons does it again. A
#perfect & #powerful tune xx
Mumford & Sons are wonderful. I have a dream of hugging Marcus someday for bringing me this wonderfully amazing music...
"Do not ask the price i pay i must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghost in my head That run wild and wish me dead "

Floyd.
Really? I heart their music.
Love was kind for a time
But now just aches and it makes me blind
This mirror holds my eyes too bright
But I can't see the others other in my life
We too young and heads too strong
To bear the weight of these lovers eyes
I feel numb beneath your tongue
Beneath the curse of these lovers eyes
But do not ask the price I pay
I must live with my quiet rage
Tame the ghosts in my head
That run wild and wish me dead
Should you shake my ash to the wind
Lord forget all of my sins
And let me die where I lie
Beneath the curse of these lovers eyes
There is no drink or drug I've tried
To rid the curse of these lover's eyes
I feel numb beneath her tongue
Her strength just makes me feel less strong
But do not ask the price I pay
I must live with my quiet rage
Tame the ghosts in my head
That run wild and wish me dead
Should you shake my ash to the wind
Lord forget all of my sins
And let me die where I lie
Beneath the curse of my lovers eyes
I walk slow
I walk slow
Take my hand help me on my way, ha

I'm reading East of Eden right now and Broken Crown and this song really reminded me of it.

I am older and I love these boys. My boys. I want this played at my funeral... PLEASE whoever reads this even after I pass. PLAY THIS AT MY GRAVE
Honestly, when Mumford and Sons new album comes out, I will be more than pleased with just studio recordings of their many wonderful live songs. Hell I would buy just their live songs if they put them all on a cd.
Is it possible that I can't dislike neither one of Mumford & Sons' songs?
They're great!! :)

Ania Domnik Yeah, you’re not alone there...
Mumford never disappoints, this one, yet again, is exceptional.
Tears have never entered my eyes by reading poetry that wasn't backed by music... until my reading of that comment. lol. You're very gifted, I hope you do something with your writing.

"I heart most things except meat in a can." Excellent song with an amusing comment thrown in at the end- this is most pleasing.
True music. Love when they harmonize together. So good.
