I agree Pete and Mark, under normal day riding and weekend tag along rides the old damper rubbers would have been fine for another many K/Ms and if the damper did call it a day you wouldn’t been to far away from home to replace and fix. But the Simpson desert ride is a completely different situation where Boris will need to be at his best condition possible and not taking any “What if’s” into the equation when you’re in the middle of no mans land. 👍🏍Hwy

Great video, many people don't even pay attention to the shock absorbers. I have 2 DR 650 SP44 from 1992 and 1993 and the following trick: Simply put rubbers in diesel for a day and they fit again, they suck the paraffin out of the diesel. I've always done it this way, it works great.

    Good work job well done.
I had the change dampers oh ony old Honda I was 46km from home and the rear wheel started making a horrible noise and there was slop in the drive between eceleration and deceleration. At first from the noise I thought some spokes had let go. The bike was 30 years old and had done 8,000km. I used insulation tape to take up the slack in the dampers till new rudders could be sauced. Go the 1986 XLR250R, miss that Lil bike.

I put tyres on my new DR at about 300km (to get rid of the Death Wings) and the original cush drive bushes had slop in them then and the hub pretty much fell apart when I pulled the wheel out. I think they are fairly loose from new. I've now done 2900km and they have as much movement in them as your old ones. I wonder if the replacement ones are of different design or rubber?
