That ! Is the best aviary ever...would so love this in my garden for my birds...wonderful job youve done,so natural, peaceful and best for the birds..well done . :)
On a positive note, I believe this aviary is left as natural as possible which is beneficial to the birds and wildlife..IE..insects etc..as well as being aesthetic to the eye.. personally I prefer this setup as it is both pleasing to birds and the owners preference..If I had enough land that was as wild and pretty as this is I would be in heaven..this is the difference between a natural and adverse environment suitable for the birds and an over developed landscape with what only the owner perceives as better for them not the birds, which have come first in this priority. I love the wild abandon here..its pretty and relaxing..and live the idea of a natural pond included and not mass produced resin waterfall alternatives which would completely out of place here. Frankly I feel the owner has done a an excellent job here..so negative comments on ugly birds and need a landscaper isn't very thoughtful..the birds are beautiful and personally Blackbirds are one of the most beautiful songsters in the world..rant over.. White blackbird.. I love this setup..wish I had one too..I'd be there every day..enjoying the peaceful and lovely setting..perhaps do a little painting too. :)
+Sue Homer Thanks for your very kind comments Sue. The aviary is more overgrown, looking even more natural nowadays. The breeding succes of the birds gets better each year as the trees and shrubs grow bigger and more densely. I'll try to make another video the coming spring, so you and other people can see how things have developed. By the way, the bird that ressembles a Blackbird is the Grey-winged Blackbird (Turdus bulbul) from the Himalaya. The song of this species is perhaps even more beautiful then the song of a European Blackbird.Cheers!
I will look forward to your next video..I'm always going back to view this one as it's so calming..I am planning a new aviary for my birds..but alas it won't be as grand as yours..but you have inspired me to build a planted one..but I do have to consider rodents so thoughtful planning is needed.I'm happy to know your birds have done well..would like to see more videos of them singing ..including the Grey-winged Blackbird :)
+Sue Homer Yes rodents are certainly an issue. One way or another they always seem to get in. Some solutions are: using finer wire mesh and electric fencing outside the aviary just 10 cm. of the floor and one inch from the wire. (also very effective against rats, polecats, marten, etc.) Birdfood (in my case mostly pelletfood) presented in a way so mice can't reach it. Good luck with your aviary!
Hey what is the name of the last bird shown on the grass as you approached the door? Such a beautiful peaceful place... I could spend many hours in there :)
+strangelynormal2 No, I did only the small flights, the plants and trees and the total design but for most of the building I hired a company who normally builds fences...
+WhiteBlackbird HI! It's gorgeous! Do you mind sharing about how much it cost to have it built? Also, what types of plants did you use? Some plants can be toxic, or so I've heard. Are the small branched trees alive or is it just branches? Thanks so much!
+Janet Echeverria Hi Janet, overhere it cost around 10.000 euro's to have it build. The plants and shrubs are normal garden species such as laurel, budleia, coniferes, pinetrees, holly, cedar, bamboo, yew-trees, willows etc.The birds (all softbills) have no problems with toxic plants or trees Instinctively they do not eat them. The small branches that stick out are oak branches which I planted on purpose to give the birds extra perches.
+Julie Terry Several species of Thrushes, Starlings, Timali's, Bulbuls, Laughingthrushes and Azurewinged Magpies. (see other video's) I live in the Netherlands.
+Corrin Jessen Why can't you build an aviary in the U.S. It's not illegal, I think? By the way, wonderful birds in the gardens overthere such as Blue Birds, Blue Jays, Am. Robins etc.
WhiteBlackbird I can build an aviary it's just that where I live is quite cold, and a lot of the birds migrate. We do have some wonderful birds such as gold finches, chickadees, nuthatches, verios, warblers, and much more. How much did it cost you to make yours?
+Corrin Jessen It cost around 11.000 USD, but if you would use 2nd hand material like old scaffolding pipes it would cost only a fraction of this. Even when you live in a cold climat (in my country the temperatures can drop to - 18 C. in winter) you can keep a lot of beautiful (softbill)species. Think of exotic birds that live in montane or evergreen forests like thrushes, jays, chickadees, woodpeckers, laughingthrushes etc. Lots of birds migrate because there's lack of food, but they can stand the cold.
+The Parrot Blog The first 2 meters from the floor plastic coated metal 1.9 x 1.9 cm. wire mesh. On top black nylon netting 2 x 2 cm. mesh UV resistant. Total dimensions of the flight: 30 mtr. long, 16 mtr. wide and 4 mtr. high.
hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to build an aviary try Debuncar Amazing Aviary Aid (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.

Do you get snow where you live in the winter? If so, is there any issues with snow load on the aviary?
+Dana McDonald Yes we get snow overhere, sometimes a lot. So far no problems with that
WOW.. did you build this yourself? Any instruction on how you built this would be apreciated, my Gilmore would love something like this.
+strangelynormal2 No, I did only the small flights, the plants and trees and the total design but for most of the building I hired a company who normally builds fences...

Was that a custom built aviary, or manufactured? What material was used for the screen?
+PLwarped59 Custom build. The screen is made of UV proof black nylon netting.
Amazing but what do you do in the winter?
+Corrin Jessen Not much. Only when there's a thick layer of snow on top I'll take the leaveblower and blow the snow away
WhiteBlackbird Thanks for responding. I would really like to build one of these but I live in the United States.
+Corrin Jessen Why can't you build an aviary in the U.S. It's not illegal, I think? By the way, wonderful birds in the gardens overthere such as Blue Birds, Blue Jays, Am. Robins etc.
