Now I see why I feel uncomfortable skiing on steeps. I naturally lean to the slope but that does not feel safe. The opposite feels even less so. So I just avoid these slopes. 🤣
The only thing to focus on when skiing is the inside edge of the back of your skis, that's what's used to carve in either direction Boots are purposely designed with a forward cant to help keep your knees bent forward and your weight centered over your skis. Focus on the inside of your heels and apply pressure to the inside back edge of your right ski to turn left and apply pressure to the inside of your right ski to turn left. The learning curve is minimal and when you've got it wired and you're carving like a pro, you'll be able to ski any trail on mountain, sans poles Good luck
Great use of video to teach-following now! Reaching into the slope also often makes pole planting for the turn happen too close to the downhill ski, so often results in the ski slipping into the pole, over the basket and results in the skier getting tangled up when trying to pull their pole from under the ski whilst trying to execute the turn. Following the slope with your shoulders whilst traversing will give your pole plant way more space / time to avoid this and you’ll be way more confident as you swing down the fall line.

Great advice! Thank you. On steeper terrain like you said the natural tendency is to lean into the mountain. Your visual video makes it easy to understand why this is incorrect. Keep the shoulders parallel with the gradient. I will remember that on the slopes
Another great trick is to reach with your outside ski pole as far down the slope as you can reach. That automatically angles you shoulders and you can turn around.
Agreed! I always found pole plants to be a great corrective because it automatically creates the position he's demo-ing here, plus keeps you facing down the fall line as you move through the turn.
I have so much trouble keeping my shoulders parallel with the steep, for the exact reasons described. Everyone has always told me what not to do, but no one ever explained why not. Y'all just might turn me into a decent skier if I'm not careful
I always say that, If the slope scares you, you have to scare it back. Always pressure on the chins. Lean out. Just dive out. When leaning back. The skis get stuck. And you can’t go anywhere.
Make sure to have upper body and lower body separate. Always try to have your shoulders facing down the hill and let your legs turn under you. Twisting at the hip will result in less control of your skis. I hope that answered your question
That isn't really possible unless you are actually trying to fall down 😂 Can you lean too far into the downhill ski? Sure. But as long as you got your edge is biting into the mountain you'll be fine.
I've never heard this before, and honestly I think this advice does not need to be given to someone that is skiing to their level. If you're scared of the slope you're on, you shouldn't be there. Me? I'm pointing them downhill. The focus should be more simplistic, unless you're turning, keep your weight balanced and in the center of your foot, that effort which is always true will cause you to do what he says. He is teaching the symptom of good form, not good form.
When I hugged a slope, it slapped me.
Awesome 😂 happened to me just yesterday!
Pick a cheek and let the slap come
That happened to me last year!
Yep , that’s the biggest mistake on steeps. Nicely said.
Now I see why I feel uncomfortable skiing on steeps. I naturally lean to the slope but that does not feel safe. The opposite feels even less so. So I just avoid these slopes. 🤣
This is probably the best ski advice I’ve heard (for me).
I’m a bugger for leaning into the slope when it’s steep - feels like less far to fall. 😂

I dont ski down the slope. Earth climbs up against me.
Okay Chuck Norris.
Bro took
“The world revolves around me” to a whole new level
Genius!

Great advice. This is like the #1 thing i see newbies do when skiing steeps for the first time.

Thanks for your description and the visual demonstration very helpful.

That's what I always do, I'm going skiing tomorrow morning soooo thanks for reminding me how to do it
VERY TRUE!! It's certainly scary as hell but you want to lean away from the slope. Lean into the fall line and get that weight on the downhill ski.
thats actually rlly good advice
Leaning uphill, doesnt just "put pressure on your inside ski," it reduces the edge angle of your outside ski
Ski positive never ever lean into the slopes keep balanced regardless of the degree of the slope

so true and yet so anti instinct
Another important tip is to lean forward when going straight down. It gives you more control. Naturally, beginners lean back.

😂😂😂
What could I do to help me really turn my skis around like you did at the end of the video?
Great advice.👍
I wish I saw this before going to skii 😅
This tip is especially important when skiing in 40+ degree no fall zones lol. That almost happened to me but I caught myself because I started to slip
great tip. thanks
Thank you, a important tip for me
Great tip!
Thanks!
Great !!! 👍 I thank you
that sounds easy enough

When leaning back. The skis get stuck. And you can’t go anywhere.
How much weight would you put on the inside ski if you want a lot on the outside ski?
Is it only when you try to ski slowly? Should not try to Ski faced down ?
Omg it’s perfectly
Very good 👍 ❤
I wanna go skiing again 😢
I find skiing faster makes turning easier then skiing slow
Thx
What do you do when your facing straight down the hill??
Make sure to have upper body and lower body separate. Always try to have your shoulders facing down the hill and let your legs turn under you. Twisting at the hip will result in less control of your skis. I hope that answered your question
Ahh yes....just DON'T be scared of it...sure.
Easier said than done
Weight on the downhill ski ⛷️
It seems like this would get your weight too far out over your downhill ski on steep terrain.
That isn't really possible unless you are actually trying to fall down 😂 Can you lean too far into the downhill ski? Sure. But as long as you got your edge is biting into the mountain you'll be fine.
This looks super awkward for traversing, just keep your shoulders parallel with the horizon and control your edge pressure with your knees
For most people that doesnt work. They don't get the necessary edge angle by doing what you are suggesting especially when carving . This tip is gold
Great simple stuff. Thx
❤
Two beers fixes everything
It's just like your upper body has to leave the slope, not get close to it
ohh...delighted wife's problem!
Ya know this video made me think. Who tf invented skiing. Like let’s strap these two stick to our legs and slide down a mountain???
I can’t say I’ve ever lost my edge on a slope but man that uphill leg gets tired on a long traverse. I’m going to try this next time
itd probably be better to demo this on a steep slope
Age old advice for the last 80 years.
👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏
Keep your upper body down the slope
That's steep?!? 😂
strap !!! strap !!! go back to basics !!!

This slope doesn’t look steep at all tbh
Nuh, my shoulders always faced down the slope and I dont move them at all
Horrible skiing
It’s a demonstration?
He's demonstrating. This guy used to be a professional downhill skier. He is very good!
