Quechua Air Bed 70 and Apenza Comfort 65 Review and Tips

- A couple of weeks ago I was asked by a viewer to review the Quechua Air Bed 70's and Arpenaz ( yes I know I got the pronunciation wrong in the video ) Comfort 65 or SIM Mattress as they were shown in a previous video of mine.
With a trip coming up and it being a long time since I had used these products. I felt it was only right to have another look at these products for myself. Would they be better for me? Had my opinion changed from all that time ago?. That's what I try to find out here.
I also look at using a Double Air bed on top of the two Quechua Air Bed 70's and seeing how that compares to the two Arpenaz Comfort 65's.
Mid way through this video I take a look at another product viewers have been asking me about. The iBasingo Mini Camping Table which is available from Amazon. Here I show you how to put this mini table together.

This was such a useful and honest in depth review. Thank you very much. I think those thin SIM’s would not be comfortable enough for me either! This has helped so much in narrowing down the choice for sleeping equipment and in seeing how the camp bed air 70’s would fit in the bedroom space of the tent.
Also thanks for the tip about coffee bags in one of your videos I’ve just picked some up for our next camping trip.

Thank you Gemma for your kind comments and indeed the idea for this video. When I was answering your questions some doubt entered my head. So had to have a refresh. Always a good excuse to get the tent up. Even if it is in the garden.
I checked Decathlons website as I was uploading to TH-cam and it looks like the Camp Bed Air 70 could be discontinued. Replaced with the Camp Bed Air. Which looks identical just 200cm long rather than 190cm. Still the same price at £49.99
Yes the Taylors Coffee bags are BRILLIANT. Like the advert says. It's amazing no one has thought of it before....Ahem...I've had two today already haha. Though in my defence I am up at 6am to feed and walk Buster.

Next week I am up in the north. Fingers and toes crossed we don't have another lock down in the mean time. I'm packing today but trying not to look at the news incase the worst happens and plans canceled.
I'm taking Buster and my mum as there is a landmark she desperately wants to see. We should have gone in May but Covid-19 put paid to that.
Spoiler alert if we do go. It will be likely four videos. One for each day. I have a vague outline of the video in mind.

I can assure you that there are plenty of outtakes which I will probably cut together to make a video out of in the winter. I do find it difficult talking to the camera. This TH-cam lark is still relately new to me.

I'm building a fitness blog and have tried recording a couple of videos myself, but I'm awful, so won't be inflicting myself upon TH-cam any time soon! So I genuinely appreciate how difficult it can be. But you're a natural! All the best for the future, I think you're going to smash it.
@@ThePANDA1885 Don't be too harsh on yourself. Look I'm no expert but I do have experience.
Talking to the camera is not natural by any stretch of the imagination. It's like talking to your toaster and trying to be charismatic about it....It is just not natural. At least to begin with.

It's hard work. A ten minute video can mean 8 or 9 hours of editing. But again it's worth it. I'm here because I enjoy it and its a challenge. A lot of my free time is now consummated by TH-cam and thats okay because I'm pushing myself to my limits.
Limits which in some rare cases I'm exceeding. It's good fun and I get to talk to good like minded people like yourself on a topic I am passionate about. Which is the icing on top of the cake.

What a great video. Loved it.
After returning from a camping weekend away with the kids we also feel like we want to update our sleep system so we are higher off the ground (think it's an age thing). We've never seen these inflatable bed frames before but think they look great.
We too have a dog an have the potential claws issue but are considering the SIM option and wondered if you'd tried any other thicker self inflating mattress which may have a bit more give and not be as firm? Would love to hear of any others.

Now regarding the bed layout. I’ve not used these for awhile as I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of kit for wild camping. But totally understand what you mean. I'm at the age where a little bit of comfort goes a loooooooong way.
Now the last time we used these Quechua beds my dad used it a couple of years ago between lockdowns.
I linked two of the Quecua bases together to make a double bed. They clip together easily. Then I threw a fleece blanket over the nylon/plastic struts that form the base. Then I used a High Gear double airbed on top of the fleece. The fleece blanket was used to prevent any squeaking from the plastic from the bottom of the double airbed rubbing on the plactic/ Nylon struts. Believe me it was a good idea as the first time I tried it I was awake all night with the sound of squeaking plastic. Not good.
I then used the bungies from the bed base to hold the four corners of the doube airbed in place. Its a bit of. a stretch but it does work.
Next I used a couple of those foil blankets that wild campers use to reflect the heat back up. They do double bed size ones now for about £20 I believe on Amazon. This served two reasons. A it stopped any body heat being lost in to the airbed. And B added protection from my dogs paws.I used a couple so I could hook them under the bungies again from. Finally I used a single sleeping bag. Not a mummy one. But one of those regular rectangle ones over the foil mats. Again this was to help against punctures from Busters paws. Then added a double sleeping bag over that and job done.
Now i did'nt sleep on that but my Dad who was 79 at the time had three comfortable nights sleeping on that. He had Buster on the bed for each of those three nights and not once did we have any deflation issues. Even though I took a spare double air bed just in case. I mean those ones from Goooutdoors are resonably priced. So always good to have a spare.
The downsides were that it’s a lot of kit to take and when adding up the various items it does make it quite expensive too. Each morning and just before bed we would pull the foil mats and rectangular sleeping bag and re-tuck them under the bungies if they had come out.
The double airbed adds more height than the sim mattresses too. This made it more comfortable than the sim mattresses and that extra height almost made it feel just like a bed from home. You litterally woke up and swung your legs out of bed. Hey Presto!.
Plus you may have to change the orientation of where you sleep. Especially if your tent ceiling is low. We had to do this as the rear of the tent was quite clostrophobic with that extra height. But we changed the orientation and my Dad had three comfortable nights sleep. Just a pitty that it rain every day haha.
Now it does not rain this week then I will try and make a video on this set up that I used. It will be a good excuse for me to try out my new camera haha.

Hi! Just wanted to add my pennies worth, I have these and use the Andes 10cm SIM. I am also a side sleeper and I initially tried a standard inflatable mattress, which I’ve never got along with and still don’t. I then moved on to the 3.5 SIM which gave me the mattress feel that I wanted but due to my side sleeping just made me incredibly sore (age doesn’t come alone unfortunately) so I did a good bit of research - also known as bargain hunting and found the Andes 10cm SIM at a great price with good reviews. I hit the jackpot (though I’ll never ever get it back in to the stuff sack!!), this set up is my holy grail. I put a fleece fitted sheet over the bed mattress combo and I’m as snug as a bug in a rug!
If your a side sleeper I would go for a 10cm minimum depth SIM.
I am reading some of the people about the bad. Will the slats bend. Seems like it will be dad to me. Thanks

P.S - I am only worried about blowing to inflate for longer then I wish it to be. They say it self inflates 80% but m not sure about it. Other the that I think these are nice

Thank you for your kind comment. I fully understand how difficult it is finding the right camping solutions. From the tent to the beds and cook systems and I'm happy my channel has helped in some way.
Have you considered the Quechua Air Seconds 5.1 Fresh and black? It would be easy to set up. Have a dark bedroom so you are not woken up by the early morning light. Would be very well ventilated and have enough room for a family of four.
With that tent you'll have enough room for your family and a little spare for items like clothes, storage for cooking etc....
If not that one then the Quechua Air Seconds 4.1 Fresh and Black might be okay....A fair bit smaller than the 5.1 and you may feel a little cramped but it is quite a bit cheaper.
Both of these tents are really one bedroom. If you would like two separate bedrooms then maybe have a look at the Quechua Air Seconds 4.2 Fresh and Black. This is a similar size to the 4.1 but has two separate bedrooms located at either end of the tent. With a compact living space in-between.
All of these tents are of an air beam construction and will require a pump. Sold by Decathlon for £15. It adds a little extra bulk to pack but will mean that you can put these tents up very quickly.
I have the Quechua Air Seconds 4.1 Fresh and Black and with the exception of the sleeping area length not quite being long enough for my personal liking. Apart from that it is an exceptional tent.
That's about all I can say really and I hope what I've said here has helped in some way.
Hopefully I will have some more videos on the way soon. The last couple of months has been very busy. Any further questions and I will try to answer them as best as I can.

@@ItsaCampingThing my idea is to have the cheaper tent but spend more on the airbed frames. A good bed is probably crucial. I almost ordered the self inflating mattresses but after another of youre videos I will get standard air mattresses, another money saver
@@dlear85 Yes some of the cheaper airbeds are more comfortable then there more expensive counterparts. I'm getting ready for a trip myself. I will be using two Quechua Camp Bed Air 70s plus a double air bed on top. With a blanket between the two to stop squeaking
Hey man great video!! Just a quick thought, have you tried to simply stack the SIM on top of the air mattress (the eurohike)? The Air Bed is quite expensive now, and if the idea is just to add some cushion and height to the actual mattress, then wouldn't it be the same to just put the SIM on top of any air mattress that is way cheaper? Thanks!
Sadly I don't have these beds any more.
In order to get it fully in the bag, you have to be careful when rolling in the camp bed that the fluffy parts don't stick outside the slabs.
I bought this setup last year. We slept on them for two weeks and we’re not the fittest people, so we need good beds.
Our (and perhaps your) mistake was to blow up the SIM’s too hard. After an hour this feels uncomfortable. After deflating a bit we got a sweet soft mattress. But this year we will upgrade to thicker SIM’s because when they are soft as we like and you climb onto the bed, the mattress folds a bit between the air bed ribs.
Decathlon could add one or two more ribs to prevent this.
Other than that we loved them.

That was my first mistake you are correct. I did inflate them to much. But then I let some air out for the following night and could feel the ribs of the camp bed underneath.
It was the Goldie locks scenario. Either too hard or too soft and nothing seemed to work for me.
Try as I might I just couldn't find a sweet spot for my liking. I loved the idea. Especially that you could zip them together when making a double. With only so many days I could test in the garden I eventually gave up and reluctantly used a cheap airbed for an upcoming trip. Not ideal but I did have a better night's sleep.
With hindsight maybe I need to replace my mattress in the home. Maybe I've got too used to a soft mattress and need to train if you like my back in to being comfortable with something firmer.
For now at least I will just stick with the airbed and camp bed combination.

I’ve actually bought the same set up but haven’t used it yet and was concerned I’d spent SO much in the hope of having a decent night’s sleep camping in my new tent (also the same as Busters Boy’s!). I have no fixed date in mind for my kit’s first outing but will take on board what you’d mentioned about not filling the SIMs too much. Thanks, Nicci 😊
You mentioned in the beginning of this video that Decathlon is now selling these in a 200cm long version. Would that work at all with the tent being sloped?
For me it depends on if you are planning to use an airbed on top of this base layer. Or a much slimmer sim mattress. That’s what makes the difference. The Bedroom is 210cm from front to back so yes it will fit. You can of coarse lay on the bed with your head at the door end. This will make it less claustrophobic as your wont have the slop end right near to your face.
Something else to consider. As i have recently stopped using these. I filmed this well over a year or so ago.
They add height to make getting in and out of bed easier. But also add weight and bulk when travelling. Do you really need them just to get in and out of bed a little easier? Also it’s something else to set up and pack away.
The 200cm version would fit. Just be careful of what you place on top of it to raise that bed any higher.

Thanks for the review i will now buy these. We had this tent we did love it till we experienced bad rain. Then we learned because it has no built in ground sheet the tent filled with water.

A damp cloth with water should be fine...I wouldn't submerge it though
