It's not a "terrible pronounciation". It's just a pronounciation that is not standard israeli hebrew pronounciation. That doesn't it make it worth less. Surprise surprise there are many different pronounciation traditions among different diaspora groups of the jewish people. This is just one of them (it's basically the polish-galician subvariant of Ashkenazi Hebrew)
