Imagine giving birth and spending 18 years, each, raising two daughters to be their best selves. One of them wins a contest and they are both killed by insecure and hateful men.

@Oeks Lohk no one said all men are murderers, only that those men that kill their girlfriends are insecure. I think people who kill someone because they're jealous (can also be women) deserve to be shamed

I'm from Honduras. when I was a young girl, a group of men broke into our small ranch, it was just me and my grandpa at the time. They wrapped a towel around my head and shot my grandpa in the same room. It's been 25 years, and we never heard a single thing from the police. It's not even crazy to think that it could have been them.

I'm grateful for you, you didn't have to be raised here. Not only is it dangerous, it's extremely poor near poverty. There are neighborhoods of families living in tents or huts made of dumpster scraps. It's very hot but no AC. The robbery is very high, people have to hide there things, or it gets stolen. Everything is extremely expensive and worse than dollar tree quality. There's no hot water, so baths are very cold. The roads are not paved so dirt gets everywhere. And the government and the police are very corrupt.. 💀
I've been in Honduras for 20 days now. My mother force me to come here to meet family. I'm 26 years old but my mother will not let me out of her sight for a second. Or she panics and comes looking for me. She admit there's crazy men that are always drinking and raping girls.. They get to walk freely because no one can afford to get them arrested.
Sometimes I don't feel safe, when men are catcalling me I think they will attack me with a machete if I don't go along with them. I can't wait to leave this country. 💀

@You Tube have you ever went swimming in the summer before and felt how cold the water is when you jump in. Even in the hottest weather, water will be COLD.
Taking a bath is like a choice here, some people go weeks without a bath. And if people can afford baby wipes and perfume, that's pretty much how they clean their selves.
Maybe richer Hondurans might have hot water in their homes.

It's not really a matter of "that's all she could get?" it's more about the environment these girls grew up in. In poor neighborhoods in Latin America, many of the men get involved, or may possibly get involved with gangs and it's just something that is normalized. So in a way girls (and people in general) grow accostumed to belonging to an environment/place where a lot of people involved with gangs live. It's something that permeates everyday life.

I have so much awful things to say about Honduras. My mother is from here and I learned Spanish because of her. To say the least I don't recommend people visiting this country, you'll just get robbed the second you step out an airport or killed. Many criminals can spot a tourist and immediately target them, the police don't do anything and if something we're to happen they show up 2 hours late. Where I live the police would stay in front of a school to flirt with the high schoolers and do other things. I've always been a girl to not listen to what others say and give any men a cold look when they stare at me, I used to wear shorts or skirts in the us but I stopped wearing them when I go out cause guys just want to touch you or cat call which is gross. My 9 year old cousin has a classmate who was raped by her stepfather and the police didn't do anything, and if they catch a criminal well in a few months they let them go for good behavior. I'm not one to speak but this country needs some strict rules and shouldn't continue being like this.

Cassiopea sp It depends on where you go, some areas are obviously safer than others. The big cities in general are dangerous. Tell your friend that he/she should never travel alone especially at night. In fact, avoid travelling at night period especially if you're a woman.
Often we had to work late in the office so our company hired private drivers. They can be a bit expensive at $100-200/day but, I highly recommend it because they know which areas of each city are no go zones, and some of the private drivers have military experience so you feel safer.
There are so many cases where Tourists have wondered into seemingly safe neighbourhoods but ended up being robbed of all their belongings, so tell your friend to do some research!
If you go to the tourist heavy zones, it is much safer for the most part, just use common sense.
If your friend needs more information, he/she should look at the forums relating to Honduras on tripadvisor.com

If a bad man gets tired of his companion and wants to replace her he may not want her to live as not to see her in the arms of another man and after killing her he may take the children to be raised by his new spouse.
