I love the new camera angle! I approve. Bad Company isn't out in the US yet, which is a shame! I really would like to try it, especially after your review. Sometimes I want to play a mostly mindless dice chucking game, like Space Base, and Bad Company looks like a fun new implementation of it. Yes, you should try Shy Pluto if you have someone to campaign with. Zero interest in Hadrian's Wall. Heavy roll and writes are just... not my style and like you, I am tired of the genre. HOWEVER- Long Shot: The Dice Game just came out and that one is a roll and write where I 100% care what other people are doing. Have you tried that one yet?? I LOVE it. THANKS AGAIN, LUKE! I haven't played the original Libertalia, but I drew many of the same conclusions as you. I didn't have trouble finishing games with 4 or 5 players in well under an hour though. I really loved my first and only play of Hadrian's Wall, but haven't bought it because I'm worried I might burn out on it as you said. Great reviews!
@@TheBrokenMeeple there's 8 different levels or layouts, several are races between the players but one in particular, the 8th, uses a similar mechanism to between two castles with the players racing on the same sheets, well worth a look

I had a friend recommend Libertia but every play through I watched had me raising an eyebrow wondering about some of the same aspects you report here. Hadrian's Wall I've been up and down on (I haven't play it) but the idea of a crunchy R&W is intriguing. The thing is, I just played Rawr N Write and I own Troyes Dice as well, and...well, how many do I need in my collection?

I gave it some more plays following recording and I still like it, but it was teetering on "do i keep it or not" and then the last convention had a Bring and Buy! :P I'd still happily play it, but 7's don't always stay in the collection.

Ive been a little back and forth with Libertalia. Themes wack, but I think the arts nice. Ill try solo mode again, but it seemed like a typically proceederal and random thing. I really like 2 player mode. I think the constant "third player" is much better than some games that add a random factor to simulate a 3rd player. Played at 4 twice, once was a fail, but played it with more serious gamers and it slapped. Ive read and heard about the "chatoic" nature of it, but I think with all the open information and maybe a few plays under your belt, its not anywhere near as chaotic as a similar game, Missions Red Planet. Its an efficiency card game. Pitching it that way has lead to successful games for me and my game groups.
Hadrians Wall really clicked for me... normally not a fan of roll and writes, or flip and writes in this case... took a while to get my head around, and yeah the "multiplayer" aspect was just an afterthought by the publishers which is pointless, it's a true solo game and that's fine by me
The art in Libertalia definitely doesn't fit. I don't know why they didn't do a collectors edition of the new version with the original art. I only own two roll/flip & writes, they are Cartographers and Hadrian's Wall. Most of the others I have seen just don't interest me really. I have only played Hadrian's wall either three or four players. Yes it is very much multiplayer solitaire. However, I do like to see how we have all done at the end. See what we did the same or different. We all have the same starting resources, but it's the choices on what cards we choose to score and get extra resources from that makes each player different.
Noted! Just a problem of time due to Covid wiping out half of the month. Normally I'd prefer single videos unless it's too much editing time to handle.

I liked Hadrian's Wall and it will stay for awhile as a solo for me, but I had the same feeling that it was a bit over-rated. I can see how it would get repetitive after a bit, though I haven't played enough yet to be there. On the Space Base like games, I'm curious if you have tried Valeria? I've got the core game but haven't broken into it yet.
I was super excited for the new libertalia... until I saw it. They gutted the most interesting thing about the original. Now it's just some bizarre theme with uncomfortable abominations on the cards.
I can say that you are very wrong about bad things on Libertalia mechanics... You have bunch of choices and everything depends of that. You probably play with non experience players so you didn't get that filing because they in most situations play half random with out planing for future days... better player gonna won on 80% of games. And yes, you are right in some things, can be overcrowded on 6players... 4p is right player count and new art work choice is terrible.
Bear in mind even if I'm teaching the game the majority of the time, I'm the experienced player. Also its highly dependant on characters. Frequently you can end you up with useless ones (brawler in 4+ games for example) which never get played. It's not auto pilot for sure, but "deep" is not what I'd call this.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I didn't play new edition and brawler is new character so I don't know exactly for that but in old game every card has some purpose depend of your strategy, and I belive that is the samesituation with new edition... In some cases depending of situations some card are more valuable then others but everybody has same cards and same opportunity and you don't play all of them during the game. Tactical play is very important, to save some card for specific day, to sacrifice some cards but trying to get all benefits from special abilities if possible. For me this is one of the best game ever made and every person I introduce with a game love it - I never had bad filings from anyone.

Hmm my copy of Hadrian's Wall did not come with any pencils. Great game, especially the campaign, elevates the game a lot.
Maybe the previous seller added those.

Yep, other than Harvest Dice, which even then is a 7. The genre was a gimmick at first and just burnt out so fast.
