I’ve watched many similar videos, but this is without doubt the very best I’ve had the pleasure of watching. You’ve simplified the whole process and given me, a novice, so many tips to improve my skill. I’ve watched the three videos a few times and love all of them. Thank you so much.
Really interesting. When painting icons on gessoed boards we always do the red bole and water gilding first - cos gold will stick to natural pigments held together with egg yolk ( egg tempera) . So gold backgrounds and halos first/ if water gilding.
If I was water gilding I'd do the gold first. I love Icons, it was one of our first projects at uni (a long time ago now!). Gold will stick to most things. You can dust a surface with talc if you want to gild after painting.
Thank you very much. An informative and clear explanation. You make it look very easy, but I have tried it, and getting a lovely smooth coat of Miniatum as you did is really quite tricky in practice! More practice needed.
Hi Theodora! Is there a reason you use a separate small glass jar for the miniaum? Is it best practice not to dip your brush straight into the "orginal" miniatum jar? Just curious... and thank you so much for your absolutely wonderful videos!
Glad you enjoyed them. Yes, I decant a little so that the bottle isn't left open. I find it thickens quite quickly when exposed to the air, so I decant a small amount. If I don't use all I've decanted, I throw it away rather than putting it back in the bottle. X
I haven't used the miniatum ink so I can't comment, sorry. I wash my brush occasionally (definitely once I've finished), usually when I have a fiddly bit coming up and need to get into a tight part of the design. X
ho great I just watched your video I have a teacher now as I don't speak English I didn't understand what the white powder is do you know how to put the French translation on your videos? good evening 😘 Icône de validation par la communauté Commentaires
It depends what paint you've painted your design with but you can use it before applying the gold glue to stop the gold sticking to the places you don't want it.

Really, I thank you with my heart. It's perfect video. When do you share third part?
I’m glad you enjoyed it, all three parts are live. Have you found it since leaving this comment?
Thank you very much! Your film is very helpful!!! Do you protect gold leaf ?
Glad you found it useful. I use a high carat gold which doesn't need sealing.
Thanks so much, you’re art it so beautiful.
Thank you, you're welcome X
Is this process the same of the Miniantum INK? also, how do you rinse your brush? I couldn't understand...

Does the miniatum have a smell?
No, I haven't noticed one.
