เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 พ.ค. 2016
I'm an artist and a designer based in a rural part of Somerset. My work's inspired by nature, history and country living. I mainly paint in watercolour and gouache but creating is my greatest passion so I also dabble with silver clay, cyanotypes, resin, photography, clay and various decorative techniques.
I try not to overthink my creations and embrace the joy of making regardless of the outcome, my moto is "Creativity without Fear".
You can see more of what I get up to on my Instagram feed, or buy my creations from my Etsy shop.

Gilding with miniatum and loose leaf introduction.
Hello Theodora, the presentation of your book is superb, but I am very sad, because I cannot obtain it Because I live in France, and Amazon England, does not deliver to France. Can you tell me, how I can acquire it, I take care of all the transport costs. Can I go through your publisher for this? In advance, I thank you for your response. Be assured, Theodora, of my perfect consideration. Guy Vincent
It should be available through amazon.fr. Have you tried typing Theodora Gould into the search bar on Amazon? It should come up that way. It's published by Amazon so I don't have any physical copies. Hope that helps.
Bonjour c est trop beau J aimerais apprendre. Pouvez vous me donner des cours cordialement
Thank you. I don't teach in person but I have some videos showing/teaching the gilding process.
Thank you very much! Your film is very helpful!!! Do you protect gold leaf ?
Glad you found it useful. I use a high carat gold which doesn't need sealing.
I have been trying to hard, but I can't seem to find the right type of paper, because I also wish to water colour it. Thank you BTW. What type of paper do you reccomend?
This is what I use: amzn.to/3A7xp7f
What paper are you using for the water color and gilding please. I have your book and want to make gifts for granddaughters.

Thank you soooo much
You're welcome!
Your art its exquisite.
That's very kind, thank you 😊
This helped me so much - especially the pinwheel part. Thank you!!
Glad it helped. X
These are absolutely beautiful works of wearable art! How many layers do you have to do to get the 3D effect?
Thank you. It depends on the design, around right usually X
Have you tried using little squares of wax paper (slick side down) to lift the entire leaf of gold? You lay the wax paper square, give it a little gentle caress, then lift out whole sheet. You can use clean, very sharp scissors to cut smaller pieces. No need to mess with a gilder’s mat, tip or knife! It’s made my gilding MUCH easier!
No I haven't! I'm pretty quick with the knife now so it sounds like it might slow me down but I'll give it a go when I have some time. Thanks for telling me about it X
Beautiful work, and such skill and mastery.
Thank you very much!
How do you get the flat mirror finished?
Smooth paper and a good gold glue carefully applied.
Is it possible to order from you an initial picture?
Yes. Here's the link to my shop X theodoragoulddesigns.etsy.com
Im making a birthday card for a friend and this was perfect! The first try wasn't perfect, i cut the square wrong and it messed with the shape. But the second looks amazing! I'm gonna start decorating now Thank you so much! 🙏🏽 Your tutorial was so clear and easy <3
That's brilliant! Well done. Have fun decorating it. X
una total belleza
Thank you 😊
I am in disbelief on your technique to draw your straight lines. I will give it a try but I have high respect for your work and I don’t think mine will go that smooth.
It does take a bit of practice, don't expect too much first time. Good luck.
This is simply beautiful. Thank you for sharing... now off to the internet to buy some supplies to try this.
I hope you enjoy it Xx
finally did the pinwheel!!
Brilliant! Well done X
Mine arrives tomorrow! So excited ❤❤
Have fun X
Impecable tu trabajo
Thank you 😊
Fabuloso 🎉 es una reto personal al ver tu trabajo que es impecable .
That's kind, thank you ☺️
Thank you any suggestion on getting a straight line after applying the gold ?
You've got to get the straight line with the gold size, practice and patience. X
ho great I just watched your video I have a teacher now as I don't speak English I didn't understand what the white powder is do you know how to put the French translation on your videos? good evening 😘 Icône de validation par la communauté Commentaires
Sorry, I don't know how....it's poudre de talc. X
ok why do you put talcum powder
It depends what paint you've painted your design with but you can use it before applying the gold glue to stop the gold sticking to the places you don't want it.
ho thank you very much for taking the trouble to explain to me it’s very kind Have a good evening
Hi Theodora! Is there a reason you use a separate small glass jar for the miniaum? Is it best practice not to dip your brush straight into the "orginal" miniatum jar? Just curious... and thank you so much for your absolutely wonderful videos!
Glad you enjoyed them. Yes, I decant a little so that the bottle isn't left open. I find it thickens quite quickly when exposed to the air, so I decant a small amount. If I don't use all I've decanted, I throw it away rather than putting it back in the bottle. X
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I am planning on trying this - and your video was fabulous!!! Thank you!
You're welcome, thank you for the kind words Xx
ho it's great we have to make a digital version for Etsy ❤️❤️❤️
I'm not sure about a digital version, I'll have a think about it. X
There are some on Etsy but they are not as pretty as yours if you do I will be the first to buy them💝❤️
7:44 was definetly difficult, but you explained it very well, and thanks to that I made it!! I feel so proud of finally finishing this...Thank you so much again for the tutorial!!! :DD

I'm so pleased, thank you. 😊
thank youuuuu 💋
😁
Gracias por compartir. Super hermoso todo lo que hace. ❤
You're welcome, thank you Xx
Incredible work ❤️
Thank you 🙌
Which glue do u use? And do u apply it on the letter(paper) before the application of gold leaf on it OR the glue is on the big brush??
If you watch the first two videos it's all explained in there. The glue is Kolner miniatum, and gold size goes on before the gold.
Thank you so much!!! I just literally watched 10 other tutorials and still couldn't get the windmill right! You helped me so much!!💗
I'm so pleased it made sense 😊
when i first watched it i thought i’d have a difficult time figuring out how to make this but once i tried it, it turned out to be very easy ! instructions were very clear <3 😊
That's good to know, thank you X
I love u thank u
😊❤️
I did it the folding part was a bit tricky but my paper is a little small so it isn't closing now I'm gonna have to use a ribbon
Well done for getting the folding part, shame it's a bit small, but I'm sure you're next one will be better. X
Hello and thank you very much for your kindness in sharing your knowledge with us! How long should we wait before rubbing off the excess of gold leaves in the piece? Or how do we know it's the right time to do it?
The time that you leave before applying the gold is more important than the rubbing off time. If you've got the application time right (I do 24 hours but suggest you do some test pieces yourself) you can rub off the excess straight away.
Thankyou so much for this the Pinwheel bit was making it so tricky for me but the guidelines you made really helped
Glad it helped! X
Thank you so much I have tried other videos yours is the only one that I tried that I finally got it, you my friend are a very good teacher bless you
That makes me happy, thank you.
Really interesting. When painting icons on gessoed boards we always do the red bole and water gilding first - cos gold will stick to natural pigments held together with egg yolk ( egg tempera) . So gold backgrounds and halos first/ if water gilding.
If I was water gilding I'd do the gold first. I love Icons, it was one of our first projects at uni (a long time ago now!). Gold will stick to most things. You can dust a surface with talc if you want to gild after painting.
I just ordered the book. I make copies from medieval manuscripts and am looking forward to this little book. I work on gessoed board, paper and vellum. You are an inspiration! 😍
Do you have a video that shows how you made the pictures in the frames.
No I don't, maybe in the future X
Thank you. If you ever find the gold is not adhering as you’d like you can just breath on it - a few warm breaths and the gold will stick nicely. This helps re activate the size.
These are magical! LOVE! Bunnies are my favorite!
I'm so glad you like them, thank you Xx
