  • The grimdark is full of alien or xenos species running about, zipping through space and waging war on the Imperium and against each other. It is total war out there and there is no end in sight. Xenos like the Orks are in fact walking mushrooms in essence, there are also the tyranids which are abhorrent insect like amalgamation of different bioforms that work in unison under a hive mind and then there are the necrons which are essentially ancient immortal terminators. But then there are aliens like the Eldar that are humanoid and resemble humans to a large degree, some might even say they are exactly like us with the exception of the pointy ears and almond like eyes. So what if I was to say that these are not the only differences between the eldar and humans of 40K and that the biology of this enigmatic alien species is as different to us as ours are to crabs and squids? Here in this video we will dive deep into Eldar Biology and examine the intricate differences between them and humans. SO lets get to it.

    I always imagined Aeldari as the embodiment of uncanny valley effect: humanoids that could be easily mistaken as "nicer" humans, but their inhuman behaviour and movements would immediately make them revoltingly alien 👾

    Here's the real truth: Orks, Eldar and most of the other humanoid-like species in the galaxy look that way because the Old Ones crafted them to have roughly the say body plan and phenotypical bilateral, bipedal, tetra limbed, Prehensile upper appendages, cranial nerve center, internal rigid structure, one way digestive track, endothermal...ect.
    The real reason for it was because they were designed (including humans) to ape Necrotyr physiology/ Necron geometry during the war in heaven because they thought it was structured better for war. The components, internal structures and general anatomy are extremely different but, on the surface, look similar because they are trying to imitate a specific body layout.

    • @alganhar1
      @alganhar1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So absolutely nothing to do with the fact that particular body plan is likely the most efficient for Sapient tool users then?
      I am a marine and Evolutionary Ecologist, by trade, its what I do for a living. I can point to Convergent Evolution on Earth, really quite easily simply by looking at pelagic, fast and long distance swimming marine organisms.
      You look at Cetaceans (whales, porpoises and dolphins), long distance migratory fish (such as sailfish, Great Whites and many others) and penguins and what do you see? You see the same basic body plan AND body shape. In Fish, Mammals and Birds, and the mammals and birds went BACK to the ocean from terrestrial ancestors. Which means all evolved the same general body shape to meet the same environmental challenges.
      Oh, and Phenotypical is NOT a word.... One of my specialisations is the study of Phenotypic Plasticity, so take it from me, phenotypical is NOT a word...
      A Tetrapod body plan is simply the most energy efficient body plan for large organisms. Its part of the reason you do not see human sized ants. Square cube law has a say in physiology.....

    • @icholi88
      @icholi88 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@alganhar1 It is, in fact, not the necessarily the most efficient nor a case of convergent evolution because, they are all in fact engineered organisms.
      Phenotype is the physical expression of a genetic trait, however, we know that just because a physical trait is similar to another organism doesn't mean they have the same genetic trait to produce it. Cetaceans was a good example because they have similar traits and body plans to fish but the genes and origins for specific traits, like fins, are entirely different.
      You also are making an anthrocentric assumption that the human body plan is in anyway "optimal" for sapience. The reason most organisms on earth have comparative physiology in real life is because we have the same genetic history, because we evolved on the same planet and no necessarily because we individually just accepted it was the "most efficient".

    Our evolution is derived from primates theirs from marsupials, which was accelerated by the Old Ones, I can however state that Eldar reproduction and pregnancy, while nearly perfectly identical to that of us humans, is slow, very, very slow, that being said there are cases when one Eldar couple can get lucky, one notable case is Eldrad himself, who is the father of Taldeer and Macha, the first being his eldest and firstborn legal child while the other a result of one-time affair, it should be noted that Eldar do not have a well-placed concept of a divorce

      They don't do it because of ethics and probably because their Craftworlds can only sustain a certain amount of individuals before running out of resources. On the other side, most Drukhari are born in vats, with only the nobles of Commorragh being "true born". Being true born in Commorragh is a true flex because eldar pregnancies are very long and and the mother would be an easy target for assassination. So only the most powerful and rich dark eldar can afford that.
