Since the devs are looking to increase the amount of candy you get at a higher closeness level I think it is better to get your friends to level 5. Also, maybe in the future the closeness level will go to 10 so being at 5 already will get you to 10 faster.
I don't know if this has been covered elsewhere, but it appears that you may not need to open envelopes between sleep sessions to receive the newest candy rewards from a person. I tried going a whole day with checking for new research, but not opening the envelopes. (I was verifying if a friend was active during a 24 hour period.) When all my active friends' research was complete, I noticed that I received overlap envelopes (+candy) from active friends, even though I didn't open the previous envelope. Can anyone else confirm this with me?
Opening envelopes is not necessary. You still get the candies and closeness points. However opening envelopes can be used to see who is inactive. If a friends envelope stays open after a couple days you know they haven’t done research again thus probably inactive.
Opening envelopes do not give candies as Sylveon said above. Simply clicking the research tab you will see the +1 candy being added to your account for every friend that sleep tracked that day. I hope you haven't been wasting time opening every single envelope everyday! And if you did, respect.
Not sure if this is what you mean, but if you want to find out which of your friends aren’t as active, you can open all of the envelopes in the Research Community tab (see all the photos) and then don’t open any more envelopes for a while. After a couple days, check the Research Community tab again. Anyone who has been active will have a new envelope ready to open. Anyone who has not been active will still have just a photo, not an envelope.
Excellent info, thank you so much!
Thank you Brovinnie & Ateeque. Another great breakdown.
This one was all Ateeque
@@Bropenings great job Ateeque for the research & Brovinnie for the video!
@@Bropenings@endmp25 Thanks, appreciate it.

I hope they release higher closeness levels soon!
@@BropeningsI hope it also retrospectively counts extra closeness for those who have been at level 5 for a while.
The bro knows
Why isn’t this explained 😭 this is wild.
(I guess I’m used to all the microformulas in Go but still)
It's explained now!
Gosh, I hope they randomize the rank 3 reward to be various evolution items.
You can now convert those to candies! Don't "delete" them, and "use" them in your item bag instead.
What on earth am I going to do with all those linking cords at level 3 closeness 😭😭
Connect them end-to-end and create the longest linking cord
Horde them for an army of gengar and golems

How can I determine which friends been there the longest and hasn't been supporting much?

I explained here th-cam.com/video/Feezcji2g5E/w-d-xo.html
I am mostly lvl 2 to 3 with maximum research friends.
