Reading gradually improves your interpretation and comprehension skill. Also she was a topper during her school and college times so it normally means that she is always good in English that's why she got good marks.
When you said the thing about books is that they're your happy place I literally felt that.. I've been a fan of books. They will never you alone. Also how nice it is to sometimes let go of phone n all and just read your favourite books randomly. It's so comforting. Also brings back a lot of memories 💕

I started reading Harry Potter when I was in class 2 or 3. Didn't understand a thing at the beginning but still I went on reading. So yeah, it really helped me improve my English skill..
Yeah actually I also used to that a lot
My methods were mostly like you except for a few like
1,) Whenever I used to read and I come up with a new word, I used to write it down in my notebook then and there with its meaning. This helped me a lot with my vocabulary
2,) Whenever I was watching any English movie or show, I actually turn off the subtitles, with this my sense of hearing has been improved a lot.
3,) Most of the time I try to use the new words which I have learnt in my everyday vocabulary. Example right now when you said that Harry Potter books are still your comfort zone, here I actually used querencia 😁😁 for it.
4,) Whenever I read something, I just try to find out it's synonyms 😁😁
These methods have actually helped me to be eloquent in English language 😁😁
If any new learner is reading this then please apply these tricks as it can help you amp up your English better 😁😁

If u want to learn a language, listen to native speakers continuously and definitely after few days u can speak or imitate like them not in full fledged but atleast 50% of it. It's not only for English but goes for other languages too and i personally felt it too. I have been watching kdramas for a year, i don't understand them completely but their gestures cling to me. The tips she gave is so true.

I watched this video the day you posted it and this video is the reason why my best friend and I are Potterheads. Within these 5months my English vocabulary increased a lot!! Within December I watched all the films, read upto the 3rd book and watched Harry Potter facts and theories.

My teachers always tell me to read and watch more content in the language you want to learn or improve cause reading and listening definitely affects your language. It actually also worked pretty good. I live in Tamil Nadu but my mother tongue is Hindi so I HAD to improve my English as it was the only common language through which I can speak to other people.

She's so right...I also learned English watching English shows on HBO ....I started learning from subtitles of the show 'Reign' and 'grey of anatomy' and honorary mention ' The big bang theory' and still learning from k dramas subtitles ....it's a good way to start this way
