    This is Richard at his best!! I've seen just about every one of his videos on TH-cam, and it just doesn't get any better than this!! He became more fearless with age and is getting to the crux of the matter before he can no longer travel and speak. I don't like when people call him a saint. He's just a man, and yet has shown us what one person can do when he passionately believes in what he's doing! I have followed him for many years...since his Enneagram days!...which was my first introduction to him...and own several of his books. As a matter of fact, there are very few Christian authored books on my shelves other than his. He single-handedly gave me back my Catholic faith and love of scripture...even though I can no longer belong to the institution that has done so much harm. Richard has "been my priest" for many years now, and I am deeply grateful to him for that!
    Thank you to this church for posting this talk! Can you please tell me the date this talk took place? I find it hard to believe it was March of 2020 because everything was shutting down by then.
    Blessings to all who watch this! I pray it rings the bell of truth within your heart too.🙏❤

      Richard spoke at Chatham UMC in May, 2017. We posted it on Vimeo first but then posted it on TH-cam in 2020. Glad you found the video. Keep in touch!

      These words resonate perfectly for me. I've been taking in Thich Knat Hahn's wonderful wisdoms but I was raised in Christianity. From.Richatd has helped enormously in shining a light on the goodness of Trinity & ridding my brain if fire & brimstone teachings of my childhood. Blessings & heartfelt joy that so many humans are seeking these truths.

      It is reassuring to know others also come here before bed. In my case, whenever I have nightmares I always sleep easy after letting this play before slumbering off again.

    It is very rewarding to be listening to and reading Fr. Richard every now and then in the past 40 years. But, I always learn something new and challenging to understand more what he is saying. One thing I am convinced that my transformation of mind and heart is a growing relational experience to the rest of people and world I am learning to love. Thanks again for this grace.

    Thank you Fr. Rohr for the Paradigm shift we are being invited to explore. God with us so essential at this moment of the tragedy of the Covid Pandemic and people going to war despite and inspire of it. As God has suffered with us as he has done He truly must be suffering with the people who are victims of war, of racial prejudice and those we keep out of our "clan". Being a lover of animals and yes I do call them Gifts from God and my four legged angels. Thank you for encouraging us to have a greater Compassionate heart towards All none withstanding else there will be nothing worth living for. Pandemic has given us the wonder of nature, through virtual scenes all over the world with it's exquisite beauty, backed by music,
    Song and dance, the fauana and flora, and above all. the people toiling all over
    the world, and then I realise this is the fellowship we bring to Communion Thanksgiving / Eucharist no one is forgotten, specially those who labour to provide our food.
    As you preach it gives us hope for a better world, to look to the Body of Christ in a far more meaningful manner. John 17 means even more meaningful than ever. God Bless you.

    Though I'm in a Lutheran tradition, I feel I have to defend my Reformed brethren here a little. Total depravity isn't exactly what it might sound like, and understanding it has helped me. I understand it as the idea that we, by our judgements, taint all our actions, when we classify them, take pride in them, etc. No one seems to be immune to this. Also it puts us out of the judgemental mindset. Because nothing is good by my own efforts to make it good, I can relax, pray for Christ to work through me, not get stressed out about my inevitable judging mind, not feel myself more deserving for judging myself good in one second, and then feel myself judged the next second for having thought myself good, and so on. Total depravity nips the judgemental mind in the bud. But I see how it can turn into a negative view of life also, if one takes it to be about the person herself, or about the actions we see others take, etc. Perhaps it should be renamed as "total dualistic mindset syndrome", to appeal more to Rohr.

    The last dog I put down...well he taught me so much...after a day of heavy crying I realized...yes I will miss the form...but if it was just the form I could have him stuffed ...and following that logic when I saw his stuffed body the next day...I would feel that same feeling....but no...what was missed was that which cannot be explained ...the ..ing. The verb ing that which flows thru everything endlessly pouring outward...I had just attached to that dog...which is the full circle dualistic nature...we come back to having understood the the non dual truth of it all

    Perhaps many Catholics who 'leave Catholicism'- have not really understood the fullness of their own faith, traditions, and movements within it? I reverted back to my Catholic roots, and admit, there are many things I had no idea what the faith's depth and connection and community had there waiting the whole time. I see it was 'heresy and naivity' in me, not another

      @@anti0incultura I agree. However, if someone is looking for another option I believe they are wasting their time. Either leave and wipe the dust from your feet, or learn to cope with the consequences of staying. It's not God's will for them to stay if it's possible for them to leave.

    Minor quibble:
    The interpretation of “us” in Genesis 1:26 as alluding to the Trinity has been dismissed as not tenable for a very long time, even by Christian scholars. It seems instead to refer to God’s all-inclusiveness. References to supposed Christian doctrines in Hebrew scripture are highly dubious, and always dismissed by Jewish scholars as completely without substance. I think it is perilous to try to find “seeds” of Christian theology planted in the Hebrew texts. It usually seems like wishful thinking, and it ultimately diminishes Christian thought, instead of magnifying it, because it turns Christianity into a kind of fetish.
    But Rohr is right in my book to try to reform American Fundamentalist Christianity. It is way too tribal, only focused on Jesus as savior, judgement of others. You’re saved or not, and if you’re saved, you’re done, all of life is pointless.

    Of course God loves every single person! As should we. However, that does not mean that everyone loves God. God does not force Himself on people, and will allow you the freedom to choose self-rule instead of Him.
    Because of that, there is a Hell, where those bent on having everything on their own terms (which, far enough down that road, eventually leads to destruction of self and others) will be quarantined from bringing any darkness among all that is Good, and from those that choose light over darkness.

    • @saintsword23
      @saintsword23 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Selfishness and putting one's ego at the center is already its own hell. God doesn't need to send anyone there. Simultaneously, those that go beyond it are not threatened by the misdeeds of others. You don't need evil to be contained when you've contained the idea of evil in your own heart. Evil can't cause suffering in the person who has developed equanimity and grace.

    As a Born Again Believer, this is coming from the unborn again mind of man. In Isaiah 55:8 says " My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher thanthe earth, sore My Ways than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
    THE WRITTEN WORD , the Bible I'd God's Thoughts, His Mind, His Will for us. To know Him is to know His Word. We are warned not to add to it or take away from it and that is what has happened here. AGAIN, We know Jesus when we get Born Again and follow Him through His Will, His thoughts His Word to us. All else is not him but only our thoughts! Not God's

      @Karen Graves
      First off I’ll note that ‘Karen’ is a tough name to have these days. (Please take no offense, Just a joke)
      2nd, and much more seriously, thank you for your comments; I have listened to around 15 to 20hours of Richard Rohr, maybe more. I have more than a couple times heard him state that he has wanted to bring Catholics back to the scriptures and he references the scriptures as foundational. However I am not sure which scriptures he is referring to, I don’t know how anyone who has read the Bible, not pieces here or there, but in its entirety, could ever come to the ideas he espouses from it. Why not just come right out and say you think the Bible is wrong, that it comes from man, (blind men groping in the dark at only a small portion of the elephant) and move on, don’t claim it’s foundational and then build your house on the ground next to it. But no, instead we have the concept of non-dualistic thinking to obfuscate coupled with the ideas within spiral dynamics such as 2nd tier consciousness which insulates from critique.
      Today we have no excuse, practically everyone has access to it; to those who believe that what is said by Father Rohr about God is in accord with with what the Bible says, please read the Bible, and seriously consider what it says from a position of humility, not arrogance.

    It seems that high level of spirituality pictured in orthodox christianity has nothing with their practical decisions and behaviour ...i.g. look at what is happening now with spirituality of key persons in the Russian Orthodox Church. Is it either the Christianity?!
