I was looking for a few simple tips / directions to help my 9 yr old who is learning to pitch. This was spot on for what I was looking for - Thank you for keeping it simple and digestible for him
Really appreciate this. I'm playing with the 11-12 yr olds, and their inital undoing is stalling or over-exaggerating the beginning of the motion (almost looks like they go into slo-mo), which results in their center of gravity being on their back leg at their release. You totally nailed it.
This is absolutely spot on. KISS. Kids in farm and suited pitch in all sorts of ways. If they simplify a little more and just get the basic mechanics down, they'll play better ball.
Having an open mind and a willingness to try new things is a must for pitchers to reach new barriers. Pitchers that have a solid foundation and understanding of their mechanics need not move past this point. However, if you don’t, we have included a formal presentation for a foundation to work by. I’ve always said try to make the uncomfortable feel comfortable. Remember if you are trying to make mechanical adjustments you won’t necessarily get the adjustment on your first try. Keep working and over time it will happen. Good athletes make positive adjustment to become better and get good at their sport. Great athletes make positive, technical adjustments that last their career. Each pitcher is unique and should have something positive to build on such as mechanics, mental approach, velocity, movement or control.
No trying to disrespect at all. I love the game of baseball but who is your target audience for this video(parents or the 10 yr old)? there were some baseball language examples said that a 10y/o might not understand. when I was at the foundation stage of teach my son, I showed him how to release the ball first like throwing a dart, elbow over shoulder and snap the wrist to increase the ball rotarion. then progressively went through the mechanics. great video and keep the videos coming.
@@backoff3477 This is a good point. I definitely think it’s more for the parents/coaches. I will say it’s good to keep them from bad habits in their setup and lower body as you do reps. I’ve run into this problem with other mechanics.
I haven’t really looked back into the simple side of pitching since I was this age. At these ages it’s really hard for these kids to get good hip shoulder separation and drive. I think your approach to arm position and direction is done well. A lot of kids are told to go into a balance point which becomes an obstacle when they actually start learning to pitch by 14+. Good, simple approach to beginners. Well done.
I'm in the process of teaching my 9-year-old son how to pitch. I pitched for 15-20 years, but I'm struggling to coach him up. This is very helpful. He seems to be a natural considering he just started a few months ago towards the middle of his baseball season and was already better than most of the others his age. I started him from the windup immediately. He seems to be in too much of a rush from the stretch and has done much better taking his time from the windup. Where we seem to be having the most trouble is balance, consistency in mechanics, and arm position, so this is very helpful.

This is really good info but one thing I would add is as your rotating your hips take your glove into a c Motion and tuck it into your ribs as you throw you can pick up 3-4mph with that move because it helps your body add so much torque
Great stuff. Would the mechanics you're discussing here be applicable to a 9 or 10 year just starting out in pitching in a rec league? Or are there other fundamentals a kid starting out should be focusing on? For example, working on accuracy beyond having your shoulder and hip pointing towards the catcher. Thanks.
When first starting out focus on the foundational pieces. I have some drills and other focus areas in place and you can view this by joining the channel and seeking under the top 10 playlist. I recommend the Must Do pitching drills. Work your way up from their. Thanks for taking the time to reach out.

Great video.. how do U feel about other people’s advice as to not push off the mound and to pivot instead.. I’ve always pushed off mound new to the pivot idea
Hello. I like the term drive down the hill versus pivot or push personally. If you have a minute and can check out our most recent video I talk about this subject a little more in detail hopefully that may help let me know if you need a link I can get it over to you. Thanks and have a great day
Hey I’m 13, 14 in April and I’m throwing 68-70 from 60,6 but this upcoming weekend will be my third time throwing from 60,6 and my bicep always seems to hurt I want to say it’s because I didn’t really throw like I should’ve for almost 2 years because of covid and I can’t go for longer than 2 innings without my arm starting to hurt is it just because I’m not used to pitching from 60,6 or what’s going on?
Great video. Solid concepts. Great use of terminology that kids can understand. For example, “carry everything through the catcher,” and “seatbelt on or off.” Good stuff. This is the first Vid I’ve seen from this channel. But, I’m a subscriber now. If this vid is any indication, I will be glad I subscribed. Thanks!
Great vid..The only thing I would add is to make sure after separation that the Thumb on the pitching hand is facing downward. A lot of kids have no instruction in that regard and are holding the ball with her thumb facing towards the sky. This dramatically affects the torque and load of a pitch..Keep at it an thanks for sharing.
What grip do you recommend for kids hands. I’ve been teaching my 9yo to just do a simple 4 seam grip just to get him thinking about it. I know it doesn’t really matter at that age but I was wondering if you had any thoughts?
Im 20. Just started watching baseball and suddenly had the urge to learn to throw a pitch. This video was super elementary compared to the others. Really helpful for a guy like me to get the basic motions down.
This is a great video. I pitched in college 20 years ago, and have an 8 year old lefty that is getting ready to move up to Minors next spring, and very much wants to pitch. What differs significantly from what we were taught then is the low hand position after your hand break in the "power T" position. We were taught back then to get your hand up at head level or above and throw downhill from there. But all the modern teaching seems to show a lower, shoulder-level hand position before throwing. I'm looking at a list of videos on youtube from other instructors, and every one shows the position you showed. What is the reason for this vs. how we were taught back in the day? I would think this position would promote more strain on the shoulder/elbow and create trouble getting on top to get the ball down in the zone.
Great comment. The difference is in the how fast the arm spirals up (circle) and loading the arm using shoulder and back muscles in a more efficient manner than "Power T". Today we see a lot less rotator cuff injury I believe in part because of this technique. However the down side is you see a lot more elbow injury due to increased velocity. My take is that velocity has been the new standard over pitch ability and durability. Here is my thing. I don't get too wrapped up on arm slot as long at appropriate timing of movements is being met, especially at younger ages. For younger guys the "W" position will usually promote staying on top of the ball and pitching down hill. Everyone is a little different and this is just my take on the matter. Hope it helps y'all at some level. Thank you :)
Watching different videos about 9 n 10 yr pitching. Nobody is talking how Zack Genkie is the best at fielding his position. Can you maybe talk about that. To many pitchers are getting. Hit by comsbackers
I’m coaching a 15u team, who are mostly 14, and it’s such a pain to not be able to express properly what I’m trying to say because I’m so used to more advanced philosophies. Any tips on what to do when your team practices ridiculously well, but loses it in game?
Yeah closing games can be difficult as long as you're winning or losing within a small margin you're playing at the right level the more the guys play together the better they'll get at closing the game out and the winds will start piling up if the talent is there as well. Just try to be patient with him and keep encouraging them.
This sounds stupid, but I am 38, and I want to learn to pitch for the fun of it. Not to pitch in a game, but to practice with my 14 & 11 year old boys. Can it be done without hurting myself? I also like throwing a baseball. I played growing up, but only for a few years.
Yes you will be fine as long as you don't over do you numbers. Keep you throwing volume low starting out and gradually increase as you guys move along. Hope you enjoy the time with your boys. Be blessed
I’m a 13 year old who just got back into baseball. I haven’t played since kindergarten and I want to be a pitcher so bad, but had no idea how to start. But thank god for people like this, that help people with barely any knowledge and give us places to start.
Try this after you throw. I have a Playlist on my channel that has different exercises. Everytime you throw a ball recover your arm. th-cam.com/video/A5TDImLOo4w/w-d-xo.html

I just started play baseball this really helped
Awesome! practice and train a lot. You are going to do great :)
I’m a righty that’s 12 that throws 50 and can throw multiple pitches (curve change sinker 4seam) do you have tips on how to throw those pitches more accurate
Thank you for reaching out and supporting us :) Try this video on accuracy. th-cam.com/video/c_29ALjaFJU/w-d-xo.html
a curve will mess up your arm, save your curveballs until you're about 14-15
Great session
i just got into baseball at 14 years old and have never played in my life, but here i am trying to learn😅🤞

Should I start all 9-10 years olds from the stretch, i.e. not from a wind up? Pete
Stretch
Hey I’m 13, 14 in April and I’m throwing 68-70 from 60,6 but this upcoming weekend will be my third time throwing from 60,6 and my bicep always seems to hurt I want to say it’s because I didn’t really throw like I should’ve for almost 2 years because of covid and I can’t go for longer than 2 innings without my arm starting to hurt is it just because I’m not used to pitching from 60,6 or what’s going on?
Hello there. Please see our videos on pitching recovery and strength within our playlist. This should help some.
Good stuff man, I have a 17 year old that is about to commit as a softball pitcher now my 8 year old son wants to be like big sister.
Thank you very much. Congrats to your daughter that's awesome. Have fun with your boy the time goes really quick. Be blessed.
Great video. Solid concepts. Great use of terminology that kids can understand. For example, “carry everything through the catcher,” and “seatbelt on or off.”
Good stuff. This is the first Vid I’ve seen from this channel. But, I’m a subscriber now. If this vid is any indication, I will be glad I subscribed.
Thanks!
Thank you Justin. Glad you enjoyed and found value in the video. Hope you / yours has a great season. Be blessed. - Coach Jason
Very welcome. Thank you for the support.
5:25 That compromised position you spoke on can lead to knee injuries later on....believe me....I know
I watched this before a game and used these tips in it and they really helped thank you
So glad to hear this. Keep working your are going to do great :) - Coach Jason
ARM Pitching Development Thank you so much man that feels great
What grip do you recommend for kids hands. I’ve been teaching my 9yo to just do a simple 4 seam grip just to get him thinking about it. I know it doesn’t really matter at that age but I was wondering if you had any thoughts?
Try 3 fingers on a four seam grip. That should help. Yes - at 9u who cares the number of fingers, you got it. Thanks for sharing.
Im 20. Just started watching baseball and suddenly had the urge to learn to throw a pitch. This video was super elementary compared to the others. Really helpful for a guy like me to get the basic motions down.
Great tutorial, Coach. I learned a lot from this video and will incorporate your techniques with our double A pitchers!
Thank you so much. Appreciate the support and hope it help y'all. Hope you have great seasons to come. 👊
This is great stuff. I think I will be a more effective pitching coach.
Glad it helped thanks for viewing 🙏
Great video coach..thank you
This is a great video.
As a 32 year old little league dropout who’s trying to find ANY help with pitching mechanics so I can pitch in a local adult league….THANK YOU
Awesome! Best of luck to you this season. Hope you have a good one. 👍
THANK YOU SO MUCH. really helps
You bet. Thanks for the support 🙏
Thank You for this video! Exactly what I need for our 9U team!!!
You're very welcome thank you so much for the support
Can someone tell me what the signs are (like 1 or2
Good stuff coach!
Thank man helped me alot in pitching cause everybody teaches me different types of ways and you showed me the
Corecct way to do it
Awesome. Glad this helped you. We hope you have a great season.
Watching different videos about 9 n 10 yr pitching. Nobody is talking how Zack Genkie is the best at fielding his position. Can you maybe talk about that. To many pitchers are getting. Hit by comsbackers
I didn’t do the right mechanics for one pitching appearance and this the second time I have watched a video
That's OK buddy. The important thing is to keep trying and keep learning. Pitching is a journey. Keep practicing;)
My 2 seam fastball is my bread and butter it zips and there is curves. Down a lot of hit and misses with that
Is it ok for me to watch this at 32? Im just learning to hit and pitch so I can do it for fun and exercise
Fantastic bud. Best of luck to you. Have a great time learning something new. Great personal growth.
Thank you helped a lot!
You're welcome! Thanks for all the support. #ARMsquad
Great coach but in Ghana 🇬🇭 Africa we don’t have the pitchers mount
Interesting 🤔 . The concepts mechanically are the same regardless of mound or not. Hope all is well and thank you for the support.
Thanks I love your vids
This helped me a lot
Thanks for viewing and your support of my channel. Hope y'all have a great season. Keep learning and keep growing ;)
Thanks Coach Jason! I’m a mom to 2 boys who are baseball crazed, tired of looking like a big jerk. Can’t wait to surprise them with my new fastball :)
Get'em Lindsay. Thanks for the support ☺️
You know how to stop arm pain after throwing?
Try this after you throw. I have a Playlist on my channel that has different exercises. Everytime you throw a ball recover your arm. th-cam.com/video/A5TDImLOo4w/w-d-xo.html
Thank you I’m going to be a pitcher
Awesome! You're gonna do great. Keep learning and keep growing. You got this! #ARMsquad
Watching to learn to teach my boys how to pitch I have two lefties and two righties
You said something really important, Make it simple, at that ages in not to good overwhelming with a lot of things, just do the basics and start from there. Really good video coach👍
Thank you so much. :)
What would you do if you have a hole for your foot instead of flat ground
Great question Scott. I'm actually going to shoot a video on this topic. Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime try to fill the hole in and spit on it...lol
Thank you bruh I can’t pitch I needed this i
Do you think 13 is too late to start
No. Get to work. You got this buddy 💪
