    Wow. Chris I’m impressed that you and Julie went through so much in almost a 7 day period through the rugged terrain. I can’t imagine the amount experience that you both gained from this adventure. I miss those time that I was able to do those things. Working in the hospital and Covid patients has been my challenge, everyday that I’m here. Even as I am writing this my shift just started. I hope this coming year that I can get out and do some traveling.
    And a change of subject I’m heavily into drones and have a a TH-cam channel. Great seeing you on video out once ago. Keep safe. I truly hope to be seeing your videos again.

    I think we as "fans" of your work don't need an explanation as to why it's taking you a long time to produce the Doc or there has been less content here. Anyone that follows you knows you're new parents and that in itself is a job. You're busy, busy people. I for one am not surprised that you broke a record in completing the meanest link. You're both amazing athletes. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the Doc and your version of the link. All the best!

    Chris! We have missed you... This virtual hangout was awesome, very enjoyable and relatable. I loved hearing your experience in regards to film making in the backcountry. This resonates with me as I have had similar experiences when Britt and I first attempted making videos. Going back to 2015-2016 I remember when we attempted filming I always felt like I had to film everything and this put unnecessary pressure and ultimately took away from the story and experiences we had. Fast forward to now where I have taken the time to learn camera and film making basics, along with enjoying the process and not putting unnecessary pressures on us, we now find it enhances our outdoor life! We look forward to your Meanest Link documentary, I feel you will have great success in these film festivals because of your raw talent and love for this art form! Let's hangout again soon...bring Julia next time. Until then, sending positive vibes :)

    Hey Chris, great seeing ya back on the screen, thanks for the update. As to footwear, I've tried dozens over the years and for many years I was hooked on trail runners, Sportiva's exactly but have just transitioned into lightweight boots for certain trips. There are many options but it really depends on your trips and conditions you encounter on them.

  • @adventureswithjosie
    @adventureswithjosie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Enjoyed the video Chris! Thanks for sharing all of that great info! I agree with you, I always feel more comfortable hiking with a pair of lighter running shoes, than a pair more solid hikers, and I also don't really need the ankle support. I actually wear my old worn out Asics running shoes far more for hiking than my Merrell mid Moab hikers. I feel better when my feet and ankles can move more, and I can feel the ground better under my feet. I find with the more solid hikers you lose that flexibility and don't feel very good footing when you hike along rocks or roots. I need to get a new pair of shoes soon so I will check out those Salomon shoes! And I also totally get what you mean about comparing filming for you to what fishing is to others. That's similar to how I feel about photography. It's what I love to do when I'm out there and because of it I probably pay more attention to my surroundings, and the little details in nature, and enjoy more of what's around me. Sometimes, as what you mentioned about filming in the outdoors, photography can be the same where you can actually not enjoy being outdoors as much if you are concentrating too much on always trying to get the best shots or hundreds of photos of everything. I have to remind myself often to enjoy the real life moments in life more, instead of always looking at the world through the camera lens and being worried about getting the shot. Is there somewhere where we can ask questions that you might answer in a future video?

    For my feet, i've recently had the chance recently to switch to the Altra Lone Peaks, which is the grippiest lightest shoe with the widest toebox i have ever tried. People who have feet that swell up something fierce or need a wide shoe this is probably something they want to look into for backpacking and other stuff if they already are into using trail runners. It is a zero drop shoe though which some people might have issues with coming for regular shoes, but i have no arches so it works superbly for me right out of the gate. My foot pain went from 8 or 9 in most shoes to about 2 or 3 after using them to walk around on concrete/asphalt for my daily walks which average 6 to 10km.
    Edit: My second choice other than Salomons are the Saucony similar fit for less $$.

    I remember discussing those campfire at the lake videos. They make for great background noise while I'm working on something, but that sure ain't the kind of videos I want to make.
    Trying to get a tonne of footage into a coherent narrative can be an adventure in itself. I've actually moved towards minimal gear and sometimes just shooting on my iPhone so that a hike or camping trip doesn't get totally subsumed into the filmmaking.
    PS: The missus, my kids and I all use those Keen sandals.

    Much like the Brent run, the original Algonquin canoe race, meanest should be rounded to the closest hour. It’s not a race and thus 2 groups that go out and complete the route and finish within a few minutes of each other should be credited equally. Finishing 3,4,5 even 29 minutes faster than somebody in something the creators even say is not a race doesn’t diminish either accomplishment. The few minutes here or there in a 7 day trip is, in my opinion, not worth reporting on. 6 days 11 hours is impressive, 6days 11hours 34 min is pedantic given the circumstance.

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey James, I appreciate your view, though I mention it in large part because if I don’t, I’ll get asked hundreds of times across different platforms. I agree for the most part... a few minutes would be pretty insignificant... though we were 3 hours ahead of the previous unsupported expedition-style time, which is a little more significant, particularly when you consider the amount of filming we did out there, and all the time and resources that goes into keeping the cameras rolling out there at that level of production value for the coming documentary. Also, as paddlers begin to reach the boundaries of what’s possible out there, the more significant those hours become. In any event, I would respectfully submit that strong people lift others up, and don’t put them down... so when our time is beaten some day, I’ll be the first to congratulate them.

    • @jamesbonney6872
      @jamesbonney6872 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And hidden down there at the bottom of
      Your response is my point. You’re ready to congratulate someone when they beat your time. Alex and Gord specifically made the rules this wasn’t to be a race but an experience. It’s starting to look a lot like a race when it’s timed to the minute and people are trying to beat each other.
      Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be watching the video when you release it and I like your videos. It’s just one guys opinion lol.
