My favourite Guerlains don't belong to the exclusive line. I remember how surprised I was when at Champs Elysees 68 and there was nothing more exciting to be found than the perfumes I already owned and loved. I am quite happy about that fact.
I sampled Guerlain's exclusive range and wanted to be more impressed with them. Lucky for my pocketbook I guess. I love the classical Guerlains, especially in extrait form.
Ahh... I looked for the live today but came too late. I like the old bottles more. More elegant and sophisticated in my eyes. They also stand out compared to other exclusive lines. As for Rose Chérie, it's a lovely juice which clearly reminds me a lot of French Kiss. The main difference to my nose is that the rose is much more prominent. It seems to be a slightly more grown up version of French Kiss. I first liked it very much, then I started to think that it's a bit too sweet and there is a metallic note (probably the rose) which bothers me a bit. I think I like French Kiss better in the end. As for the psychology of pricing, yes, if the price is too low some people might not buy it. But for Guerlain it never came to my mind, that prices were too low! On the contrary! The exclusive ranges from other brands are cheaper than Guerlain which increases its prices endlessly it seems. It is also known that if the prices increase too much, people loose faith in the quality of product because it just seems that they want to rip off people (except super riches who probably will not see the difference. ;-)). And it also seems to reflect a lack of judgment and reason...which is not trustworthy! :-) By the way, smelled Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia and I love it! It's almost only about vanilla. It's very balmy, very comforting. Reminds me of Spiritueuse Double Vanille and the Shalimar Ode à la Vanille series in the past. A must have to my nose! I just saw your instagram video and concerning Santal Pao Rosa, I exactly had the same thought as you: to my nose, it really fits better the Oriental range which includes Santal Royal etc...It's a bit too loud and harsh for me even though the spicy incense facet is interesting and quite meditative, which seems ironic because I still find it quite loud and strong.
I layer Guerlain Rose Barbare from the L’art and La Matiere collection with Baccarat Rouge 540 extrait. Both are by Francis Kurkjian so I thought I’d mix it up. Each scent is independently 9/10 for me but when together, they somehow push each other to 10 where I feel I’m floating on clouds of roses. I only use them when I travel for work and have long days of meetings. Keeps me smelling fresh throughout the day and into the evening.

The story of your friend's pricing strategy reminded me of an A-Level economics topic about just that. The phenomenon is called Giffen Goods: products that people consume more of as the price rises and vice versa. The Middle East is enitrely composed of such products and their concomitant cosumers. I'm also susceptible to this poverty-causing folly, I fear :(
And i do get the jack the price up because people think okay that's good stuff because look at how expensive it is! But people should no that that doesn't mean its good....When it comes to fragrance there defiantly isn't you get what you pay for another words if its more its better! because look at Club Black.... Halloween man....Cheap fragrances that are really good....then you have Apple brandy by Kilian 50 ml 200 bucks and it doesn't last long at all....Anyway that's just my opinion i guess........

I've been 'ebaying' (sounds like a primitive yelp!) & ended up winning an auction for a vintage extrait. First I lost Nahema, then Chamade... I ended up "winning" the bids for 1980s Vol de Nuit. Not sure I would like it & I do. Phew! A decade of perfume geekery prevails & I was ready to understand its Galbanum & mysterious woody & comforting depths. Please let me know how to keep up with your broadcasts.

Problem is when these Fragrance company's can give the reviewers free fragrances to review and its hundreds of dollars there just giving away tells you they are charging way way to much! what ever happened to quality vs quantity sell more for a cheaper price then making a million off each fragrance...so everybody can enjoy them...but they make it where only the well off or people like me that charge it and owe for it....I mean they are getting stupid expensive now days...when you no that it does not cost that much to make....i do not care if certain things like oud is expensive that does not make up for the stupid expensive price...its almost like they prey on peoples addictions....Like Myself for instance....I love fragrance a super lot....But when your collection is exceeding ten grand you no you have a issue! Lol
I also had the impression that the perfumes have gone through some reformulation. Thanks for mentioning it. I might not have trusted my own scent memory on the matter.
Totally interested in Guerlain fragrances. Caught the end of the live. Felt like I missed the party though so I will watch now.

I much prefer the old bottle. I smelled the new Voyou, to my nose it is inferior than the old one.
