In this soap making video I show you how to make a soothing soap for sensitive skin. Thank you for watching❣
Soothing soap recipe for sensitive skin:
    Recipe calculated with soapee.com/calculator
    Oils:
    288 g olive oil (48%)
    42 g castor oil (7%)
    150 g shea butter (25%)
    120 g coconut oil (20%)
    Lye solution:
    120 g distilled water (frozen)
85.5 g sodium hydroxide (79.5 g if not using citric acid)
    (40 % lye concentration, 7% superfat)
    Additives:
    30 g rice puree
    10 g citric acid + 1 tbsp distilled water
    1/4 tsp indigo powder
    1/2 tsp titanium dioxide
    10 ml fragrance oil
    ○ Citric acid information
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
    How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Hello! I'm Italian and I use a translator, so sorry if there are mistakes. I have recently been approaching this wonderful world of soaps, and I am enchanted by your recipes. Just yesterday I used a dish soap that has finished seasoning and unfortunately I found that it leaves my dishes greasy. I read that I put too much citric acid, 10 g on 500 g of oils, with 84 g of soda and 150 g of water ... it is clear that I have made a mess! So I have yet to understand how well citric acid in soaps works, and your explanation of its use helps me a lot. Thanks for what you share, they are valuable advice for those who know how to understand them.

Hai tellervo... I just love your soap making... Can you clear me a point... If we use lots of soft oil comparing than hard oil, is it giving enough lather nd is its shelf life remains high?

    • @tellervo.
      @tellervo.  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you so much! Yes, the lather will be different with more soft oils, but it's really a personal preference so you need to choose your oils based on what qualities are important to you. The shelf life depends on the shelf life of your oils.
