Thanks guys for putting this out there. I live in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, we used to have grouse here but it's been like 14 years since I flushed one, longer than that since I've heard one drumming. I feel like you guys said, where do I start, nobody is talking about it at all. Everything around here is about the whitetail deer, not saying that's bad but it feels like we have to do something before its too late.

Don't get me wrong, turkeys need help in a lot of areas too, but everyone seems to forget about the ruffed grouse. We're desperately trying to give them a voice and get people to care about their management before it's too late because the clock is ticking. You're not far from Erich, by the way. He lives in Coshocton County.
It happens on our watch because of our culture. Unfortunately the state of America is sad and we have forgotten what is actually worth fighting for. What’s worse is the younger Generations become less and less interested in the Natural world around them. We HAVE to get young people involved and excited about the outdoors more now then ever. We are a dying breed.
It certainly speaks to our culture, for sure. Agreed on getting the younger generation involved and, more importantly to care, about nature and wildlife. It's our responsibility and ultimately how we'll be measured. Regarding the ruffed grouse, we have a lot of work to do to spread the message, advocate, and create good habitat. It's going to take all of us to save this special species!
They're non-migratory birds unfortunately, so they don't fly around looking for the best habitat. But as cheesy as it sounds, if good habitat is present, they'll find it. Numbers have always fluctuated on my property over the years and I don't know where they come from, but they come from somewhere, and this past winter I saw more grouse than I have in my life. Also, same for quail. I heard bobwhite quail on my property this spring for the first time in 25+years. No idea where they came from or how they got here, but if the habitat is there and there are birds in the neighborhood they'll find it. Where in VA are you located?
@@DearHunterProject I am in the Shenandoah Valley near Harrisonburg, Va. I own a 150-acre farm where we used to have 8 to 10 coveys of quail and plenty of grouse, now nothing. and the farm has good cover for quail and grouse. Same thing around the house where I live, no grouse.

Have you been successful at all. They used to be all around my home here in Va now none. I don't know where they are going to come from.
