Don't worry about getting to the end. Enjoy the story all the content you do will feel relevant for your character so it's fun to just enjoy the story.
Also, you really should do as much as you can: quests are how you make sense of the world as opposed to just being swept up in one campaign against the Ascians by being immune to tempering
I started FFXIV 7 years ago as I do all my series and stories: completely blank. No expectations, no spoilers, just trying it out and seeing it for myself. I was hooked from the very first _loading screen_ . There's something about the minutiae of the loading screen that captured my attention, like I was about to enter a place of significance. I also went in with the intention of just trying it out and see where my _adventure_ would lead. No desire for rushing to endgame (tip: the game starts at level 1), no knowledge of the length of the MSQ (for the better) and just taking it as I went. I highly encourage such a mentality when first starting the game! Welcome to Eorzea!
That, if I may be so bold, is the best way to do it! Before I could get everything installed, I watched a few videos, but basically only about classes/roles and races. Started Miqo’te, restarted as Elezen, switched to Hyur and I think I’ve settled on Lalafell. My god… those goofy little buggers have me in stitches (should’ve just started there since I like playing smaller races in games anyway)!
Welcome lore newbies! The scribe here is one of the best in the lore scene of xiv so, listen well and remember, "the story is worth different things to different people."
Me with “To be continued” in the corner of his screen: Hmmm yes fascinating. In all seriousness I welcome all the newcomer sprouts to the game! May you walk in the light of the Crystal!
@@gardenstatebossRewatching cutscenes in the inn is a nice boon, but I highly recommend _not_ doing so on your first time around. It'd be like telling someone to read only the first paragraph in each chapter of a book, and saying "you can always go back to read the rest of the chapter later".
Listen to this WoL You'll skip some seemingly boring scene about Alphinaud feeling remorse for his actions while a band of Garleans is about to finish us and when the loading screen ends you'll be on a Go-kart and an Urianger will be counting down
Welcome everyone :) thanks for joining us, jealous you get to experience all this for the first time. Just started a second non skipping play through and excited to see what I may have missed. Good luck, have fun, take your time and most importantly, enjoy. There is no rush, savour every second of it.
If you buy a story skip, I highly recommend watching a story playthrough to get all the context for what's happening. Playframe's series (with Dan, player of Durmin Durami,), is a good one to go for. It's currently on hiatus, but has so far covered everything in the MSQ up to the start of the Shadowbringers (plus some particularly relevant side-content).
Thank you for this our Lore Master Synodic Scribe! I'd like to welcome our fellow Warriors of Light from Xbox! Our FFXIV family & now yours will gladly help you out whenever you need it! May The Light of the Mother Crystal forever keep you in her Grace!

Gridania: I mean, there's the racism undertow between the wildwood Elezen, the Duskwight Elezen and the keeper's of the moon, but otherwise yeah, it's pretty chill.
I mean we could just as easily go over the poverty and wage gaps in Ul'dah as well as the violent underbelly of Limsa. No country in FFXIV is clean. lol
I mean if we wanted to sit here and sling mud at Eorzia all day, dare we mention the beast tribes the city states have been equal parts warring and/or suppressing all this time? There's also Ishguard and it's 1000-year draconic genocide wars noone remembers truly how they started, and don't get us started at how Gyr Abania got under Garlemald's thumbs to start with...
Welcome on, new brave little sparks! We're happy to have new players diving in the lore. (Side note: I appreciate the subliminal Dark Knight messaging, Scribe ;) )

I've been wondering, is calling the planet a star a FF trope? It threw me off when they started calling it that in the msq and it still throws me off whenever I see it? I've not played the other FF games so I'm not real sure. This is a great intro into the setting and game. Gives some good background without digging too deep into lore or any spoilers revealed throughout the story. I'd forgotten that limsa only starts with 2 options for classes. I need to check out more of this guys vids, I like his style of presentation!
@@SynodicScribe Sun = 日 Star = 星 Planet = 惑星 But "星" can also mean planet, just usually you don't call earth or the sun 星. Though in general in JRPGs in general and in final fantasy calling a planet a "star" isn't uncommon.
Welcome new Warriors of Light! FFXIV is quite the journey, so buckle up for a grand adventure. Take things at your own pace as the journey is the destination. And explore as much content as you can!
As expected, this will now be my go-to lore primer for new adventurers. Before watching, I was concerned that it would spend overmuch time on the 1st-4th Astral Eras, as another lore creator has done. I was surprised that details of each era were omitted altogether, mayhaps for the best as the lecture to keep the seminar from becoming overlong. I appreciate pointing out the progressions from classes to jobs. But maybe a reference to the race video series would also be helpful: personally, I wish I had known more about each people and their typical names before I started playing. As it stood, my main character has a half-joke name containing real-world references (that nevertheless is appropriate for gender and clan). 2:16 I always thought that your induction into the Scions implied that the Echo marked you as a chosen of Hydaelyn, and not Her making you Her champion because you possess the Echo. Perhaps I was influenced by the official forums in thinking so. But now I've went back and looked at the dialogue, it seems to lend neither theory credence.
Welcome xbox players. Try not to rush the game. Take your time, sample the diffrent offerings. This place is like an amusement park so many different ways to have fun.
Incredible transitions, and a great foundation of lore starting out! Will 100% send this to someone, though you forgot to mention the Rogue class in Limsa. Not a hard addition but nonetheless omitted, I assume by mistake. Love your work man! Keep it up! EDIT: apparently Rogue comes later and I totally forgot! Thanks for the reminder.
Personally if they wanted to worry bout consistency I'd rather the energy be put into a way to look at some of that 1.0 content, even if it's extended clipnotes via the Echo. Maybe a day of hanging with the Scions and the gang and you witness many of the Before Meteor events with thematic duties like Castrum Fulmin or a reimagined Nael fight.
@@mlemlemmlemmlem echo vs blessing changes. Motivations of Hydaelyn. In particular her supposed attempts at preventing calamities. I mean it is all accurate to a degree if it is assumed the player character is being lied to. Or is tempered...
@@Lulink013 As someone who leveled it, I think it's a jab at how kinda basic it feels at the Lancer state.
