WW2 Memorial To The 192nd Tank Battalion Maywood Illinois

Maywood Illinois is a small western suburb of Chicago that is as they say down on it's luck. First Avenue is a major state road that goes through it that I take to work almost every day. I always would pass this park and see this tank and cannon and wonder what was the history there beyond it being a war memorial. So one day I stopped to see what the story was and this is what I found.
Veterans Memorial Park is dedicated to Company B of the 192nd tank battalion of The United States Army. They were a National guard unit that was called up and shipped off to the Philippines at the beginning of WW2. They were of course overrun by the Japanese and became prisoners of war and were part of the Bataan death march.
In the video we have a long look at the items on display here the vintage tank and cannon and the plaques that carry the names of the brave men who gave their lives for their country. We post this video to honor their service and to educate the community about what all that old stuff is about.
No matter what one thinks about the policies, politics and other motivations for a particular war we must remember that the men (and now women) who serve and sacrifice for the country operate out of the highest of motivations and deserved to be honored,
So if you see some kind of war memorial where you live stop by sometime and find out more about it. You might come away with a deeper apprerciatrion for the sacrafices that are being honored.
