Akerfeldt is a genius, no question. It's a miracle that he can write extended pieces of huge musical complexity when his method of writing the Still Life album was to simply noodle on the guitar until he played a good riff, memorize the riff and then simply write on paper "Metallica Riff 4x" or "Bathory AARGH part". And somehow every song on the album is a masterpiece. How does he do it????
@psykokiller333 Thanks! And yeah, agreed - Akerfeldt is an unqualified genius. This isn't even, like, a well-known or highly-celebrated song of his, and it's so full of crazy intricacies and recurring motifs, and variations on those motifs, and all that good stuff. Dude basically writes metal sonatas. It took me a couple of years to really get to the bottom of this song, and it's still super rewarding to listen to.
Lovely! I remember someone on TH-cam playing the piano over Opeth’s The Drapery Falls and it was absolutely amazing❗️Now I’m on the hunt for piano covers.
@Viewindo I'd also like to add that you've inspired me to have a crack at this myself with Violin/Vocal. If I ever get around to it, I'll post a video or something xD Thanks again!
Leaving me speechless with your covers. I have only just stumbled upon them, though. A few questions: The piano model? What The years of practice? How The years of fan-ship to Opeth? When Would you consider taking a request...? I have multiple songs I would love to hear transposed like this: Bleak, Ghost of Perdition, When, A fair Judgement (I would love to hear you pull off that second solo), You're an incredible musician.
Please! Please can you make moonlapse vertigo too ? I loved this interpretation! I could not Moonlapse vertigo as well, I know it may for some people not be the best song but I feel it has one of the best endings from Opeth of the 'genre' or 'flavor' that this album presents.
i don't know if you take in requests, but you please make a cover of the song 'to bid you farewell'? it's just such a beautiful piece of work and would love to hear you cover it.
Shoutout to my buddy (and then roommate) John for lending me his old digital camera for this

These piano covers and such really help you to appreciate Opeth's incredible songwriting.
Excellent work, you have tremendous talent.
That finish needs a huge crowd applause at the end.
One of my favorite Opeth songs, and you covered it like a master. Beautiful.

sick!
my god
No way someone actually played it on piano flawlessly and i find out only now
You could play Opeth on a tuba and it'd still sound spooky
How in the hell did you pull this off? This is amazing!
Symphony X Life
nice.
you're fucking amazing. !
metal sonatas :D yes, if I knew how, I would ask him to write fugues for piano or organ
where can i get sheet music for this?
Does Mikael actually write all the parts to Opeth songs? Because I can't imagine he'd be able to play piano this well
well DW about Bleak. I found it hahaha
i wish a woman pregnant with my seed would play this on the piano when i come home from work everyday.
