    This song has the structure of a ribbon or a bow: most of the song is unique apart from the chorus and pre-chorus. These occur near the beginning and near the end of the song and connect the intro riffs, the winding middle section, and the outro. So in all it's a nice blend of progressive riffs that keep you guessing for most of the song, but also has that catchy and memorable repeated (and slightly different) chorus that holds the song together and makes it more than just an assemblage of nice riffs. This is peak Opeth.

      Great song. I didn't catch all of that in my first listen. Thanks for the comment.

    To this day no one has come close to topping the light to dark dynamics that Opeth perfected. These songs are accomplishments for the art of music itself transcending it’s relevance to only death metal. This is pure art.

    I forgot how incredibly complex this song is.
    You still need to do Blackwater Park and Deliverance =)

      I'm with you on this Notch Johnson :) They are the most known and powerful songs they ever did in my mind. I still like the less known ones greatly, but you can't go wrong with songs like Deliverance or Blackwater Park. Cheers mate!

    You should try 'Dirge for November', it is on their Blackwater Park yet I haven't seen any reactions to it. The whole song is like one perfect melody, even the heavy distorted parts are beautiful and melodic.

      Such an underrated song. It's easily one of the best of the album imo. Probably the heaviest (in an emotional way) song I've ever heard.

    I have listened to this album 100's of times!!! Just EPIC!! And every member of the band left blood and sweat on the recording studio floor! Thanks, Opeth.

    Eternal Rains will Come, for a non-growl 70s sounding prog song. One of their best post-growl modern songs. Another stellar one is Next of Kin, can't even describe what that one sounds like, best from their latest (pretty recent) album.

    You are good, most of opeth songs take me a few listens to really appreciate (and love). The marination effect is huge, no other band does that for me except maybe radiohead. Opeth right now without a doubt is my favorite band, I have all their albums.

    • @sonicallydisruptive
      @sonicallydisruptive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of what I've heard has stuck right away so far with Opeth. I'm with you on Radiohead. Takes time, there last release really grew on me.

    Don't know if you heard this but Alerfeldt is singing with Dream Theatre. Perfect match albeit it was long time ago and James Labrie is not my fav vocalist. Bad quality and not reactionworthy but as a progmetaldude you gotta listen to this!

      @@sonicallydisruptive Most of the videos I watched from you are hardly longer than the song they're claiming to review. You never seem to dive into the lyrics, you don't do comparisons to other stuff you've listened to/reviewed, you generally only do mostly very short statements on what you just heard.
