I was 12 years old when this song came out... I had no idea what the song was about then, but I remember dancing to this song with my mom and her joyfully crying as we did so... You see... shortly after I was born I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, and given a life expectancy of between 16 and 22... So for all intents and purposes, I grew up as "the dying kid"... Then at the age of 12 I was in Childrens Hospital getting a battery of tests that confirmed I actually did NOT have Cystic Fibrosis. It was not until later in life when this song came on my moms playlist one day that my mom told me the story of this song, and what it meant TO HER... She said that on the way home from that hospital visit where they found out I was 'going to to live' that this song came on the radio and it became her favorite song... and she wanted to dance and cry at the same time... I never knew at the time when we were dancing to it what significance the song had to her, nor why she would always cry and dance with me every time it came on... Anyway.. I just thought I would share this story. Neither my mom nor I are religious people, but it still holds a special meaning for us... she passed away earlier this year and when I heard this song for the first time in ages, it reminded me of how much I miss her and I had to go find the sing on youtube, play it again and dance around and cry...

there's like a magic in this song that it hits so different. Then I found out that this song is a part of history where Israelites were once captive in a foreign land and were deprived from their worship. Just something I love listening but hits you to the core imagining the pains that the Israelites have experienced.

The real Israelites NEVER called themselves "jewish". That title belongs to those usurpers that occupy Jerusalem now. The real Israelites are all still scattered across the world, but a lot of us are waken up and remembering our heritage!

@@DJthe2nd Ever wonder why it's called the Babylonian Talmud? I hate to break it to you, but the descendants of David lived on as the Jewish people. I for instance can trace my lineage back to King David, like many other Jews. "On the rivers of Babylon, there we sat, we also cried as we remembered Zion. On the willows, in the midst, we hung our harps, for there our captors demanded of us to sing and jeered at us, "sing for us the songs of Zion." How can we sing the Lord's song on alien soil" If I forget Jerusalem, I shall lose my right hand; my lounge shall cleave to its palate if I do not remember, if I don't put Jerusalem at the top of my thought. Remember God the sons of Edom, who said, "completely destroy until its foundation". Daughters of Babylon, happy are those who retribute for what you have done for us. Happy are those who take your young ones and smash them against the rock."

As a 45-year-old war veteran, I’ve lost every relationship and failed at everything. One day, I was crying in bed and prayed to God. I told Him I had nothing to offer but my broken heart. He spoke to me, saying, “It’s okay to fall apart, I’ve got you.” Then He said, “I’ve got amazing things in store for you, just trust me.” 3 weeks later Seeing my life turn around for the good and God using Teresa Janette Brock, who changed my life. After reading about her, I found her website and reached out. Her kindness led me to a business venture I never imagined I’d enjoy. Her guidance gave me a new sense of purpose and community. Now, I feel more fulfilled and happier than ever. This song and Teresa’s influence have been true blessings in my life.!

    Psalm 137
1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
    when we remembered Zion.
    2 There on the poplars
    we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs,
    our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord
    while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
    my highest joy.
7 Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did
    on the day Jerusalem fell.
    “Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.

    Psalms 137:1-9
[1]By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
[2]We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
[3]For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
[4]How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?
[5]If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
[6]If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
[7]Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
[8]O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

Dzisiaj szukając czegoś w internecie, by przejrzeć coś bądź posłuchać pojawił mi się właśnie ten utwór.

Aaah... Babylon, the modern system of this world, taking captive the people of God, making them slaves, walking on their backs, mocking them, teasing them to sing for God, but how will they sing the Lord's song in a strange land?
And so by the rivers of Babylon, they sat down and wept, when they remembered Zion.

    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭137:1‭-‬9‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[1] By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. [2] There on the poplars we hung our harps, [3] for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” [4] How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land? [5] If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill. [6] May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy. [7] Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. “Tear it down,” they cried, “tear it down to its foundations!” [8] Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us. [9] Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

I remember hearing this song as a child. It was decades before I even picked up a Bible to read it...
Until I opened up the Scriptures, it never dawned on me what it was about...
I just knew I like the song...
Once I opened the Scriptures and really started to seek the face of YeHoVaH...
It was only then that I realized what it was about and how artfully crafted and divinely inspired it truly was...

I used to listen to the 45 record with my father. After a mass when my father passed away, as my family was walking out of the church, this song was playing at a building that belonged to the church (that song playing was not arranged by my family, it was a coincidence). It was a beautiful moment though. In 2016 my husband and I were expecting our 2nd child a son, I felt that our son would be born on the 10th anniversary of my fathers death. I was afraid of that happening because I haven't mourned over my father's death. He asked us not to mourn him, not to be sad, not to cry over him and asked that his ashes be scattered in the sea. My contractions started on a Monday morning (5am), by 7pm I knew I wasn't giving birth on that date. I prayed the Lords Prayers and was asking G-d to allow me to speak to my father (dad), I asked, "father if it is your will that my son be born on the anniversary of your death, please give me the strength to get through the birth. I did not want to lose myself emotionally and mourn him while giving birth to my son. At 2am Tuesday the anesthesiologist injected me with the epidural and left. The epidural didn't work, and so he returned completely baffled because all the other injections he had giving to the expecting mothers all had worked. And I didn't want to get another injection although my contractions were just minutes apart and painful. I remained calm, breathing, and my husband was terribly sick but wearing a mask (I wore one too as a precaution). By 8am I pressed the call button and asked the nurse to please take the baby out. I was completely exhausted and hadn't slept. I had 7 nurses in the room and when they placed our son on my chest I began to cry. The nursed asked Ana why are you crying, you did so good? And I told her today is the 10th anniversary of my father's death. She looked at the white board and pointed at the baby name then asked, if that your dad's name? And I replied that it was, then they all got teary eyed and my husband was crying and so I felt bad for making him cry and so I stopped. I ended up getting a fever (Influenza from my husband) and our son was taken away. My father in law took care of our son while we recovered from the Influenza. Our son did not catch it! On the 8th day we decided to have our son circumcised and I gave him the middle name Eli. The nickname my father called me. That was the last thing my father said to me, "Eli", when I held his hand the last time I saw him. It wasn't until 2018 that I learned the name of our Heavenly Father YeHoVaH. I had a divine appointment here in this town, in the mountains where I learned the Name. I had stayed one night in this town in June 2002 but I couldn't remember the name of it. In 2015 we purchased our home here and it wasn't until June 23, 2017 after searching for our lost chihuahua that while driving around I told my husband STOP, I have stayed at this train motel in 2002! In 2018 a JW knocked on my door and we became good friends, she told me, "don't take my word, search it out for yourself', so I did just that. I learned the Creator's Name Haya, Hoveh, Yihiyeh (He was, He is, He will be) YeHoVaH. We have been Torah Observant since 2019. Shalom Alichem

It is based on PSALM 137, by David Hamelech (King David). It is said before Prayers after eating a meal (with Bread) by the Children of Israel on weekdays (not Sabbath or Festivals, and special "Mitzvah" occasions...circumcision, etc). Prophetically King David was shown a vision by G-d of the destruction of both temples, in case you wonder HOW COULD KING DAVID write about being "shlepped" to Babylon, when that event didn't happen in his lifetime.

@@expiredmilk763 the term “israel” has been used to describe both the land and the people for thousands of years. the name “israel” originally comes from jacob. his descendants-the twelve tribes-were known as the israelites. they eventually formed the kingdom of israel in the land that also came to be called israel in modern days. you’re quite literally embarrassing yourself, there is no sense in what you wrote.
