On this joyous Africa Day, we celebrate our rich and diverse heritage and commemorate the founding of the African Union. Reflecting on President Thabo Mbeki's iconic "I am an African" speech, we are reminded that being African is a profound identity rooted in our shared history, culture, and values. His words capture the essence of our unity in diversity and the indomitable spirit of our continent. Established on May 25, 1963, the African Union symbolizes our collective aspiration for peace, prosperity, and unity, marking our determination to overcome colonial legacies and chart our own course towards development. As we honour the visionaries behind the African union, we renew our commitment to their dream of a united, strong, and free Africa. Let us embrace our diversity, work together to overcome challenges, and draw inspiration from our past, hope from our present, and confidence in our future. Happy Africa Day to all!
