      @@FF2PM I did 3 sessions and stopped going. I was going to do 6 sessions but im not feeling any improvement in the first 3. I also got a 2nd opinion from an othepedic surgeon and he reviewed my mri and it’s a bone spur which is giving me the tendinitis though out my entire foot. My podiatrist and the mri reviewer completely missed it.

    Hello Maryke! Is shockwawe therapy a "must" as my running coach says, or if i am lucky to heal properly without it, can i avoid this and still expect to achieve 100% healed condition with my rehab excercises, cross training and rest? Thank you very much!

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We only ever advise people to try shockwave if they don't see progress with rehab, relative rest and cross training. It is definitely not a "must" but it can help in stubborn cases. It also doesn't work for everyone.

    hi maryke. question = i wondered if there is a max. amount of shockwave therapy someone should have? can it be done too much as part of the rehab process? is it safe to have over and over?over 20 weeks i have received shockwave 17 times (2000 shocks per session) for non-insertion tendinopathy after overloading from ultra-marathon racing - i am back running now 45-60 minutes 3x per week and have stoped the eccentric exercises as i was able to lift more than bodyweight and this itself was aggravating the injury. thank you.

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! You can definitely overdo shockwave and I've seen injuries cause by it. Usually the treatments are limited to between 4 and 6 (spaced 1 week apart). After that, you need to take a break for several months to first see the effect and focus on rehab because the effects of shockwave is not totally immediately - the body needs time to fully remodel after it.

    I’ve done 4 sessions of shockwave but I’ve been icing several times after each session for the next 48 hours. I’m only now reading that I shouldn’t be icing after it. Have a negated the benefits? Better to not ice?

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't worry about it too much, but I would also only ice if it is really needed e.g. if it is super painful. And I would not ice for longer than 10 min at a time.

    I have pain in my Achilles but only in the morning when I wake up. During the day and even workout it feels good. After a day of heavy load like cycling I can feel a shooting pain there sometimes. I’m quite active and putting my ankles under load very often. The pain has been there for around 3 months and nothing seems to be helping.
    Not sure if it’s tendonitis because I haven’t had any injuries.
    Should I try the shockwave method? Thank you.

    • @aliasgharkhoyee9501
      @aliasgharkhoyee9501 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Given you're able to exercise normally for the most part, it doesn't sound like this treatment would help - as this video said it would be relevant for people who can't do the most elementary rehab exercises.
      I think for people like you who are able to do a lot still, but suffer pain afterwards, the best thing to do is to decrease your load (how fast/high/often etc you jump) to a fraction of your existing load. If you then have no pain in 24 hours of the activity, increase your load very gradually over days to weeks - when you feel pain again you've overstepped your capacity so bring it back down and restart more slowly.

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with the other comment - Also, you need to get it diagnosed first - otherwise you may up paying for treatments that are useless or even contraindicated.

    @TreatMyAchilles- what about Mid Portion Achilles Tendinosis?

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  ปีที่แล้ว

      It works in some cases but not others. I've not had any patients have a bad reaction to it, so it is a relatively safe thing to try if rehab is not producing results. I usually advise my patients to test 4 sessions (1 per week) and then check if they notice progress from before they started. If not, then stop. If they do notice progress then do 2 more, max nr of sessions is 6 in total and after that just rehab for several months.

    I had a big bone spur (1.3 x 0.6 cm) right in the tip of the calcaneus (insertional). Like you said cannot even start rehab until I started doing shockwave. So it helps rehab but in the long run I am still not sure it can heal and goes back to where i want to be as the bone spur is pretty big. Do you normally recommend to do surgery or just handle with load management?

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First try a good 6 to 12 months of rehab and load management and if then still problematic consider surgery. Alison has done a video on it that is due to be published on the 15th.

    • @TreatMyAchilles
      @TreatMyAchilles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't actually know. I would probably say wait at least 6 months after taking your last dose of the antibiotics so that you can make sure your tendon's ability to restore is back to normal before using the shockwave.

      @TreatMyAchilles thank you. I've also tried PRP before shockwave by a different Dr, but it didn't help. I have pain every day, but it's worse if I'm walking uphill (when I walk), and some I hear it's downhill that's worse. I don't know if it's insertion tendonitis I can't remember, but it's higher up in my achilles, not close to my heal. Like a huge knot on both sides. Since I had the shockwave and didn't completely help, but I have taken the 3 weeks off treatment, do you think a couple more would help at this point? Or should I move on to something else? I do wear heal inserts in my son's Nike sneakers. Which are the only ones I can find that don't slam into my achilles knots. I'm at a loss with sneakers too.
