Hahahahaha. 30 year pahrump resident. I couldn't believe they built that place in a flood zone. Half of pahrump was a lake in the 1960s. That whole fan is a network of "dry" washes. This is nothing. Wait til some real rain hits. The genius county commissioners dropped 3.3M for a new dog kennel while zero is spent on flood control.

Maybe if they paid their employees an honest wage karma wouldn’t come slap them in the face!

about 20 square miles (probably more) of desert funnels and drains right to the track. Its built at the bottom of an alluvial fan. In monsoon season it can rain about 2 in per hour, the desert soils can't absorb water that fast so it sheets down hill. The drainage is a combination of abpout 10 sq miles of alluvial fan and about 10 sq miles of the nearby Spring Mtns. If the track is about 2 sq miles, its recieving 20 inches of water per hour or more from the drainage, and it is descending 2000+ feet over a very short distance.

That much water funneled to a desert wash moves a lot of mud and gravel. It will happen again. You can see all the branched drainages in google maps that lead to the east side of the track. I don't know what engineering they did before building , but obviously not enough to protect the track or the members they are selling homes to. Most of the eastside of highway 160 is considered ineligible for flood insurance for just this reason. The insurance companies know whats coming.

Yeah looks like they're still building homes on the north and east sides, they said they were expanding land purchases, better find a route to drain all the water to a retention pond.

Living in the area and having raced at this track this event was always a matter of time happening. Ethan has it correct. It will likely take a flood prevention and drainage system that exceeds the cost of the track to build. Great track, poor location prone to flooding. Las Vegas spent billions since the 90's building flood control all over the valley to prevent this.

You spend millions and millions of dollars on a racetrack for the rich people and then you didn't even think to make sure that it was properly elevated crowned and drained. I hope those members are asking for some of their money back.
